"Billu is dead. Long live Billu!" is a headline I've been meaning to write for the last two months since Billu's sudden disappearance. But two months later, I have to announce it like this.

Who is Billu? Billu is life. If I might be poetic, Billu a reflection of my present state of mind, in a cat. One cat. I only ever have one current cat, it seems. I've had one since as far as I can remember. It dies, and a new one takes its place.

Billu has had many incarnations. He was at one point 'Goobi', a name which somehow latched on to me. He was Small Cat. Biblu. Baba. Doesn't matter what the name is.

I'm not very sentimental about cats; hence the initial choice of title. There's nothing intrinsic about the cat itself that's special. Colour is irrelevant. Billu is a state of mind, that's understood by those around me. A concept that's materialised in a furry moving mirror we can throw things at and interesting things happen.

I of course needed a new cat. I got a black kitten. It died soon after from starvation. I got a smoke grey kitten, but it was too afraid of any sound, movement, 'funny feeling' and one night bolted out because cheer erupted in our group while watching a football match on the TV (Semi-final FC Goa vs Kolkata; we lost in the penalties). That kitten is presumed dead.

There's of course Julian, but Jules is female, and those don't have the capacity to exhibit the character of a Billu. Case closed.

I am, as it stands, catless.

Larry (May 2011 - Oct 2012)

The best cat I've ever had the privilege of knowing. Larry didn't give a fuck about anyone, living his life on his own terms. He's the kind of guy would would step on a child to escape from a burning train, or just any train. He stole food till the end of his days. He was an asshole, almost human in that nature, and for that and so many other things, he was my favourite cat yet.

Larry Jr. and Julian have big shoes to fill.

It’s been a while since I’ve released an update to my well received Safari/Chrome extension Facebook Neue. I don’t want to do any explaining so here’s the update if you’re still keen on making Facebook look presentable.

The temporary-which-might-very-well-turn-permanent page for the extension is set up so you can keep that in your bookmarks if you wish. Might come in handy if they don't auto-update or some shit like that. Who knows, right?

4CHAN was a community of people who delved so deep into the shittyness of internet subculture, that we defined what it was, and it was shit, and we recognised that. We created our community, over time, on the basis that it's al pretty much shit anyways, and so we revelled in our little nerdy memes and inside jokes. But suddenly, all our old jokes and material, and basically our personalities and subculture, has becoming THAT HIP NEW THING.
