it doesn’t take much for jeremiah to win her the stuffed dolphin she asked for. “i’ll win you another… whatever you wish.” seeing venus smiling and hearing her cheering him on is nearly enough for him to forget his troubles, that is until she asks him to explain. no matter… it’s only temporary.” he shrugs. he doesn’t want her to worry about him. it’s something he can handle. after all it’s happened once before, but this time his sister is present and needs to be looked after. “it could be longer. it’s unpredictable.” he tells her still dodging the part where he tells her about his father’s diagnosis. he trusts her, but he’s already stressed, and he feels like the burden is too much to lay on her shoulders. “don’t you worry, i’ll be alright.” jer takes her hand and holds it before bringing it to his lips and pressing a light kiss to her knuckles. “we should go get some crisps and cheese— sorry, nachos. popcorn? i’m starved after so much exertion.” he jokes as he slowly and gently pulls her along and leads the way to the nearest food stand. he feels the need to keep her close to him; as if she’ll float away any second if he let go of her hand. “look sweetheart, they have funnel cakes… would you like one? we can share and then i can beat you at the next game, are you good at shooting baskets?” he asks while they wait in line.
THE STUFFED DOLPHIN is cradled under one of venus' arms as if she's protecting it with her life. she's never completely grown out of her enjoyment for plushies but she knows that one of her daughters would love it even more than she does. "i'm great at shooting baskets. i'd love some funnel cake, though. powdered sugar, whipped cream, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream on mine." she orders. her mind returns to his answers about why he's going to be out of work for a month. it's safe to say that venus is completely lost. "who knew a simple what's new question would lead to you speaking in riddles? i don't understand what you're saying at all." venus' facial expression contorts to display her bewilderment. "anyway... anything else? i've been working up a storm. i've been so busy but i'm balancing it all well. typical."
