I studied hard and ended up scoring in the 98th percentile on my exam. At first it made feel Really Smart. Then I remembered that high test scores don't always translate into real world success, and that I've been in this position before.

Back in high school, I earned a high SAT score and nearly a perfect score on the essay section (11 out of 12), yet nothing particularly significant came from it. Moments like this make me notice patterns in my life that seem to repeat over the years, as if everything moves in cycles. It's a strange and disconcerting feeling...achieving something that once seemed important, only to find myself asking the same questions about what it actually means and if it even matters
