A recent liberation of a bottle of Francois Cotat's famed Sancerre ‘Les Monts Damnes’ confirmed that he is the wizard of the appellation. It’s no secret the wines are built for the long haul, and the 2014 was most definitely a tad taut to say the least, but the searing minerality, focus and sublime balance was totally overwhelming, and more akin to Grand Cru Chablis at this stage than Sauvignon Blanc.Tasted on a balmy evening in Peyriac de Mer with the esteemed winemaker / proprietors of Les Clos Perdus : Ben Adams & Paul Old. A great evening and a truly banging wine, can’t wait to see it in 10 years..
