Six Feet Under The Stars || flondie

The morning sun shined through the girl’s (painted) window, the warmth tickling her face just as it always did, but the butterflies came as a surprise. Rapunzel’s eyes shot open as she realized what day it was, a feeling of excitement but also dread rushing through her body.
Her date was in just a few short hours and she had no clue what a date even was. Where did they get that name, anyway? Anna tried to explain it briefly, but the whole concept was still foreign to her. Feelings in general were foreign to her. Why did she get the jumpy feeling every time she saw Eugene’s name on her phone? What was it that made her practically want to die of embarrassment every time he looked her? Was it normal for her to want to hang out and spend all night with him under the stars, and then the next moment want to whack him over the head with a frying pan?
Okay, fine. She liked him. But that meant rules had to be broken.
Rapunzel was tired of always following the rules - especially when breaking said rules lead to good things. She was always a good, obedient daughter, never wanting to upset her mother in any way, but one day she finally realized: what about her own happiness? All she wanted was to see the world, no matter how cruel and dangerous it was, and when she finally took a chance and left her tower, she realized the world was quite the opposite. Everyone she met was more kind than she could have ever imagined–not to mention that men didn’t have pointy teeth.
But again, something–or someone, rather–was holding her back. Elsa didn’t want Rapunzel to get hurt again, and she understood that, but the girl was tired of people making her decisions for her. No, she was going to continue to see Eugene, even if they had to be secretive about it. At least Anna was on her side though, so she didn’t feel too terrible for going against Elsa’s wishes. Secrets were fun anyway, right? As long as no one found out.
After trying on what seemed like the bazillionth dress, Rapunzel finally heard a knock on the door, and suddenly her heart was in her throat. She ran out to the balcony to get a peek–was this really happening? Yep, there he was. “Should I?” she thought to herself. Part of her was content to watch him there, standing on the porch, fidgeting with his shirt and running his hands excessively through his hair. To be honest, she was nervous. “No.” But then the other part of her realized this is where her life begins. “Here I go…”
The blonde hurried out of her room and down the staircase; she pulled the heavy door open with some struggle, but Eugene’s smile was there to greet her when she did. “Hey,” she replied, slowly looking down at her feet with a sudden realization. “…be right back.” She returned a few moments later, but not without feeling like the dumbest person ever. “Sorry,” she reopened the door and pointed down. “Still not used to shoes.” Rapunzel looked back at Eugene still holding out his hand, probably frozen there out of shock of the door being slammed in his face. Gosh, could she be any more of a pro at this date thing? “Now,” she placed her hand in his. Her heart began to race, but it was now or never. “Where to?”
Sure, it took a moment for Flynn to realize - did the door just slam in my face? Why yes, that was the door slamming in my face. Dammit, I knew I should have worn the black shirt, this really is an off day for me - but luckily Rapunzel was back relatively quickly. In fact, his brain had turned to such goo that he hadn’t even lowered his hand while she’d been gone. When she put her hand in his, it seemed to kick him back to life, and he shifted the tote bag on his opposite shoulder as they stepped down toward the sidewalk. “Ah, well… I’m not great at planning dates, but I brought food - most of it was paid for, I promise - and I thought we could…” He shrugged, suddenly feeling like the idea was stupid after all. “Ah… stargaze and picnic in the park.” The silently thanked the fact that night was dark and she couldn’t see the pink glow of his cheeks.
They walked along the side of the road, and he thrilled at the fact that she was holding his hand and not running away, because, if he was honest with himself, if he was in her shoes and he was his date, he would be running for the hills. Then again… He knew a lot about his past that she didn’t, and he planned on keeping it that way. Although, he had heard that serious relationships were built on a foundation of honesty… Ha, this was just a first date, who was he kidding? She would probably find him really weird and this wouldn’t be a long lasting relationship and so this mumbo jumbo about honesty would never need to be put to the test.
“So… The frog,” he said, noticing the little green monster perched as ever on her shoulder. Flynn wasn’t positive, but he could almost swear that it had glared at him as he called it a frog. “Is he like… the chaperone or something?” He laughed nervously, mentally wanting to kick himself for the lame attempt at humor. Really, what was it about Rapunzel that made Flynn become a bumbling idiot who had no skills with the ladies? Or… Was it Eugene that had no game? Oh god, he was doomed from the start.
