Strattland but it's Strange Magic
look it may be that I have a weakness for really niche movie aus (once read a Galaxy Quest au and it was delightful honestly), or that Strange Magic was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, but I feel like this could be good if I workshop it a little bit
Stratt has to be the bog king or whoever he was. She's the ruler of the dark lands which are for whatever reason perceived as evil. I don't remember in Strange Magic if the dark forest was like actually evil or if they were being wrongly villainized cause it's been a long time since I actually saw the movie, but either way that's who Stratt is.
Grace is one of two princes of the fairy kingdom or whatever. He gets his heart broken somehow (Mark????) but he's more of an academic than a warrior.
His brother (Colt? Probably Colt) is the warrior of the two, but when he gets kidnapped away to the dark forest, Grace is the one who has to go get him back.
Blah blah blah something happens Stratt and Grace manage to match each others energy in some way or another (maybe that they both prefer to settle things without physically brawling? idk something about mutual respect and intellect and holding each other accountable probably), idk if there's going to be love potions involved or what roles any other characters would fill (except I do think I would make Ilyukhina and Shapiro those two guards who are just trying to get Stratt to admit she's in love and maybe they fill the role of both the guards and the weird mom idk), and I'm not sure of all the changes I'd have to make in order for said characters to fit better, but once I have the details figured out hopefully it won't be too hard to write the plot bits cause I have the movie to go off of.
anyways there's my ramblings of the day. no idea if there's any audience for this beyond just myself but I mean that was how I felt when I first posted Ever Thought of Calling and now I'm Strattland Jesus so clearly writing for yourself pays off.

Op you've infected me with the brain worms so this is gonna be long as hell. Plot plot plot here is my thought!
Aight, so in we bring in the Coltland Au that brings in a huge character base to nab from. First one being Tom Ryder as Roland.
Tom 'falls' in love with Ryland, could be genuine but I think its best if its a hollow relationship, but while the army is cool to have the title of King is far better. Picture it, King Tom Ryder adored throughout the kingdom, a household name that will go down in history. That would be his motivation.
I think the love potion thing could still work as a plot device but liberates would definitely need to be taken. Here's how I'm thinking some stuff could go down.
Ryland and Colt have a first come first serve relationship with being the King. There are conditions. One being that they need to marry first before they can claim the throne. To me it doesn't really matter who's older in this.
I think at the time that Ryland and Tom were together Jody and Colt were seeing each other. When Ryland and Tom split, I think that they kept it quite—Ryland the standing 'King' of non confrontational, so just Ry and Colt know
Out of the two I image Colt to be the more emotionally expressive and spiraling type while Ryland is the break it down to understand it type. So while Ryland announces the break up, keeping quite on the why and dealing with the push back, Colt gets stuck in his head. What it Jody is the same? What if she just wants the crown? is anything they have real?
He pushes her away.
Keeps her at arms length and not a step closer. If she's not close he doesn't have to get hurt, doesn't need to get his heart broken. It breaks anyway. By the time he realizes it its to late.
Maybe Tom at this time stages an accident for Colt, thinking if Colt is recovering he can't get married. Can't stop him from getting closer to Ryland while he offers a shoulder to lean on (doesn't need to happen but it keeps the Fall Guy narrative) and Jody gets pushed further away.
The King just stays the King and while Colt's relationship with Jody is not great it isn't the worst in his eyes, so he pushes Ry to get back together with Tom. Giving us 'Come on Marianne' but I think it'd be less confrontational then 'what doesn't kill you'
Colt is getting better at getting close to people but its still not great with Jody. Still can't admits how much he cares for her.
Gail is Gail. I don't know who she'd be other than herself but I can't get the 'Jody is the sexy bacon talk' out of my head. She knows that Ryland will never get back with Tom, but if Tom is king they she gets some prospects (what kind? Good question, heck if I know but she gets em) so how can he get them back together?
Jody is doing pilates, getting her summer bod on, and having her hot girl summer, but Colt is still crown prince and she sadly can't avoid him forever. So Gail does some reverse physiology.
"Jody, can't you see, you are the sexy bacon. You don't need to prove anything to that man. What just because he's strong, confident, and in an amazing position of power he thinks he can do anything and get away with it. No, darling of course not. Why he probably thinks he could sneak into the Dark Forest and get a love potion just 'cause."
"Gail that's illegal."
"Pish posh honey, that's showbiz."
Is it a flimsy reason... maybe, but that's fanfiction baby.
Now, the primrose petals. I don't think 'Three Little Birds' would happen between Jody(Sunny) and Colt(Dawn) so we get to improvise.
Ryland is a scientist and Stratt is a historian. She could 100% still have the plants be cut down but I think that she'd still keep a small, highly guarded, greenhouse for them to grow. Ryland, at one point or another, could also have gathered some petals or maybe the royal family found a way to grow one single primrose flower. Who knows what other properties the flower could posses if studied? Jody gets a little side quest and bada bing bada boom love potion.
The King is still pushing for Ryland to have a relationship so he makes him go to the Spring Ball. Ryland does not want to do that. What's a guy to do? Twin swap. Colt dresses as Ryland and deals with all the dancing and the people-ing and the flirting. Ryland gets to stay stagnant by their father's side.
'Say Hey (I Love You)' happens but Gail takes the potion from Jody, gives it to Tom and Colt gets doused and kidnapped. Yay!
"Colt I'm so sorry. I will fix this I promise, we will get Ryland-"
"I'm Ryland! Jody, I'm Ryland. They took Colt, oh my god they took Colt. They wanted me. It should have been me Jody. I was the one they were after and now Colt is gone!"
Jody and Dan travel to the Dark Kingdom to save Colt. Tom uses the King's army and goes to storm the castle. Ryland travels alone. He asked Colt to switch with him, so this is his fault.
Ryland is fast but, as stated, he doesn't do well with confrontation. So instead of 'Straight On' he takes a more rouge like approach and sneaks in, like Jody did. Unlike Jody, he gets caught almost immediately.
Stratt catches him and look who gets to talking. Bonding. Maybe someone shows them their historic archives, their primrose greenhouse, and they bonds about their exes. Who knows? Colt is either still under the effects of the love potion (because he can't admit to himself that he still loves Jody) or he's faking it. Really playing it up as Ryland to try and be underestimated. He's in it for the long game.
I can picture the "scaly backed cockroach" scene with Tom so clearly and I can't stop giggling.
The castle goes boom, the sibling hand off still happens, Stratt lives, and Tom tries and fails to love potion Ryland.
Ryland and Stratt get together and rule the Dark Kingdom.
Jody goes to comfort him and she breaks the spell (if he's under the spell). He tells her he loves her. They are still working on their relationship after the film but they're getting better. They eventually rule the Fairy Kingdom.
Everyone lives happily ever after!
Sorry I didn't write more Strattland, they are more platonic best friends to me, but I'm not your mom. Have them fall in love, I'm just not sure how to go about it in a meaningful way

sorry I'm taking this as an opportunity to further rant about this au lol
I was not thinking as much about the Fall Guy side of things before but I sure am now! I also seriously need to rewatch Strange Magic because, as this has reminded me, there are a lot of plot points I don't really remember
I love love love the twin swap thing it's so funny
now for the Strattland. Works out cause the other two movies are not my are of expertise but Strattland definitely is lol
again, I haven't seen Strange Magic in a while, so there won't be too many details here, considering I don't remember all of the plot points. So far what I've been thinking is, instead of a dramatic fight scene because come on this is Ryland Grace we're talking about, he's really really trying to be brave but he has no clue what he's doing. Stratt sees this and is like "well I'm not going to fight this guy because that would just be unfair honestly I'd feel a little bad about it" so instead she either just takes him to Colt and they start on the whole antidote thing OR there's a scene of her actually teaching him to fight better
One thing I kinda cannot figure out is the sugar plum fairy cause idk if that plotline really fits for Stratt? I mean, I can see her having the whole 'nobody is ever going to love me' thing because of her personality, being essentially told by everyone that she's too cold or too ruthless, and the fairy kingdom portraying her as a monster.
(I feel like that could be a fun plotline where the fairy kingdom portrays everyone in the dark forest as a literal monster and then Grace goes there and meets Stratt and she's just...a normal person. Then again, giving Stratt a cool inhuman design would also be fun so that's going to be hard to decide.)
Even with all of that though I don't think she'd ever use a love potion on anybody. She's more of the 'shove all thoughts of romance away and never admit to anybody that i'd be interested in it' type than the 'i'll just make someone fall in love with me' type, but hey maybe she was different in her youth.
Anyways, Ryland gets so caught up in how Stratt is actually a good queen and interesting and smart and seems to understand him better than anyone back home does that he almost forgets why he was there in the first place. At this point idk if they would know Jody is there or not. They're trying to work on the antidote thing for Colt and also falling in love with each other, it's a whole thing. Anyways, maybe they don't know that Jody is in the castle so then she actually attacks Stratt later and Grace ends up protecting her and explaining everything.
Again I need to rewatch the movie before I can finalize the actual plot but so far I really really like this idea and thanks so much for all your thoughts because they're so good. As usual expect more yapping soon

saw ONE hot woman on the internet and now I'm genuinely considering writing a no astrophage au where Stratt is Grace's boss (at a more normal job) who totally has a crush on him but is trying to hide it and Grace is so into her it's embarrassing oh and also it's the 80's for no reason
being in fandom when you can't draw, can't edit, can't animate, can't really make physical crafts, aren't comfortable enough posting online to cosplay, and can't write fast enough to keep up with everyone else really does affect you after a while, I'm beginning to realize
on today's episode of what I would make if I knew how to draw/animate:
PHM animation to Let Down, specifically the lyric "one day I am gonna grow wings" that parallels Grace "growing wings" symbolizing freedom and probably involving the gold wings he is given meanwhile Stratt's "growing wings" is her being killed in the snow back on Earth and as she falls to the ground there's the outline of a snow angel around her that is slowly covered up/stained by her blood
Ok I know I need to lock in on one thing and not keep coming up with new ideas so I swear after this one I will focus on actually writing something

project Hail Mary x pacific rim crossover expect it’s also a college au
(Or maybe a high school au I haven’t fully decided yet but I’m leaning towards college/university)
Stratt is Hermann’s best (and only) friend who has to listen to him complain endlessly about this irritating guy
Grace is going through the same thing with Newt
Grace wants nothing to do with whatever rivalry/crush thing Newt is going through until he sees Stratt and suddenly he’s very very interested in being a wingman
Stratt wants no part in any of this but she cares about Hermann more than she’d ever admit and also yeah she thinks Grace is pretty cute
don’t fully have a plan for this yet other than just vague drama-filled-dual-plot-slow-burn-that-you-ruin-your-sleep-schedule-reading-in-one-night vibes so idk exactly what will come of this
I will happily listen to suggestions though I can’t promise anything in regards to a final fic yet lol

Y’know how Chloe in Lucifer had a brief career as an actress? Stratt’s version of that was singing. She was a singer for a while.
She performed in a lot of seedier establishments and became friends with another woman at one of them.
She was a decent amount older and became a sort of mentor figure to the other lady, who also wanted to be a singer.
A couple years later that girl started performing at places similar to the ones Stratt was in
After one of her shows she got murdered either because she owed money to someone or she refused to do something for them (details to be finalized later)
Law enforcement assumed she was a sex worker and refused to look into it at all so Stratt ended up taking matters into her own hands
Since she is indeed very stubborn when she sets her mind to something, and because she spent several years dealing with very shady people, she turned out to be pretty decent at the whole detective thing
She also realized that she enjoyed it. She’s got a very strong sense of justice and what is right, so getting to track down people who do wrong and make them pay was quite satisfying for her.
She’s not affiliated with the police, she’s a private detective who gets paid by the job. She has enough money to live decently well because she is a damn good detective, and because of her brief singing career.
She actually kept singing for a while after becoming a detective, but pretty soon she stopped
The au is going to be kinda noir-y because look who doesn’t love the traditional noir detective aesthetic ok??
Random side note but was anyone else’s introduction to that sort of thing Mater’s Tall Tales

Anyways I’m thinking that Grace decided to go to Earth to do something useful cause he got sick of Heaven
Then he gets mixed up in a case Stratt is solving because he happened to witness the crime
Might take the thing where Grace really should have died from whatever happened and it’s suspicious that he didn’t
But then he sorta ends up helping Stratt solve the case because he feels bad that he watched someone die and didn’t do anything
And then he realizes how useful he can be and decides what better way to help out than use his power of guilty-detecting and also getting people to tell the truth (I like the idea of him having both) to help solve crimes
So he sorta becomes Stratt’s unofficial assistant
Until she realizes that he doesn’t have a house and just sorta sleeps on various rooftops like a sad pigeon
Then he becomes her official assistant
He insists that she doesn’t have to pay him because he can just make anything he wants appear out of thin air (including money) but she doesn’t know that so she pays him anyway
He responds to this by sneaking any money she gives him back into her wallet or bank account
Later on when Stratt finds out that Grace is an angel with the ability to get literally anything he wants she asks him why the hell he was sleeping on her roof and he has to make up something about how he was still looking for a place or thought it would be suspicious
In reality he just didn’t feel the need to get a house or apartment and decided ‘meh, the roof is comfortable enough’
Oh yeah when Stratt finds him on the roof she also insists that he live with her in her house that is also her “office”
And he’s able to get away with giving any money she gives him back by creating ingredients for food and new clothes for himself so she thinks he’s spending money on things
The second Grace reveals his angel form to Stratt and she doesn’t immediately flip out and run away in terror he proceeds to be in it all the time
I mean it’s not like full biblically accurate angel he just has a bunch of wings and eyes but he’s still very Ryland-Grace-shaped other than that
He is also clingy as hell even before they get together and once they actually start dating he gets even worse
He’ll leave Stratt alone if she asks but otherwise he will follow her anywhere she lets him
And he cuddles her all the time
With his wings specifically like he always has at least one wrapped around her, often even when they’re intangible
Okay going out of order here but before Stratt knows about the whole angel thing she definitely realizes that something is up with Grace
And it becomes increasingly obvious the more he likes her, like one day she complains that it’s raining and Grace goes ‘no? It’s actually really nice outside?’ and Stratt is like ‘no it isn’t what are you talking about?’ but then she opens the window and the sun is shining even though literally five minutes ago it was pouring down rain
And Grace just shrugs and goes ‘man the weather around here sure is weird’
Once Stratt realizes that Grace is an angel she’s like ‘why the hell did it take me this long he is literally the least subtle being on the planet’
This is most likely not going to happen but I’m kinda imagining this actually being in the same universe as Lucifer and they actually eventually run into the characters from that
I feel like that’d be hilarious (though idrk I watched like two seasons of Lucifer last year and then never touched it again lmao)
