H8FUL EIGHT
As Director-Producer we all know that Quentin Tarantino can be edgy, crazy and shocking and is most certainly a one of a kind. H8ful Eight is his 9th feature and QT did not disappoint with his mix of violence, bigotry, humour and killing! He’s pedantic in his choice of actors, as you will see by the caliber of acting and actors in this movie; Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Channing Tatum, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, Zoe Bell, Demain Bichir and Walton Goggins.
QT returns to 19th century America, (the same era as Django Unchained took place). The story takes place in the Wyoming wilderness during the icy-winter brewing with storms and blizzards. Bounty hunter, John Ruth (Kurt Russell) known as "The Hangman" is on his way to the town of Red Rock in a six-horse drawn stagecoach, his latest catch, Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), with a collecting the $10,000 price tag on her head. The hard-nosed “hangman doesn’t hesitate to slap Daisy’s any time she gets out of hand….she gets slapped and backhanded a number of times – She is a potty mouthed “byatch”(and turns out to be much more than you think) who uses the “N” word ad nauseum, as do most of the characters in this movie.!! Trying to stay ahead of a coming blizzard, the duo and stage driver run into Marquis Warren (Samuel L Jackson), also a bounty hunter who is stranded in the middle of the blizzard with his bounty of dead prisoners (he went with the DEAD in dead or alive). They discover they are past acquaintances and, against Ruth's better judgement, he offers Warren and his cargo a ride. A third person is stranded and also gets a ride - This would be Chris (Mannix Goggins), who claims to be the new soon-to-be sworn sheriff of Red Rock. He convinces the two hunters that if they leave him to die on the road, they won’t be collecting their bounties with him being the new sheriff who would be the one paying them. The group of 5 five arrive at Minnie's Haberdashery. Warren knows Minnie personally and is surprised when the coach is greeted by Bob ( Demain Bichir), a man of Mexican origin (Minnie hates Mexicans) who claims to have been placed in charge of watching the lodge while Minnie is away visiting her mother on the other side of the mountain. There's Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), an overly friendly Englishman who says he is the actual hangman of Red Rock. We have Joe Gage (Madsen), a cowboy who claims he's on his way to see his mother. Last but not least Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern), a former Confederate general is there, but no one knows why. Over the course of a few hours, loyalties will be tested, alliances will form, and secrets will unfold. The crazy personalities under one roof is the typical QT promise of fun to come.
The H8ful Eight keeps the audiences on their toes. No-one is sure what will happen next and the twists and turns in the movie are shocking and vicious and funny, all at the same time. The movie is 3 hours and 2 minutes long, with a 12 minute intermission. There are no commercials or trailers at the beginning of the show, just the way QT wants. Don’t BE LATE ….you’ll miss the beginning! Lots of blood, gore, violence, racism and all the other shit you’d expect to get from a Tarantino movie!!
