"Yeah, it’s true! One day they’ll show each other how great their town is. Right now, I guess it’s up to us and the others, huh?"
"Well, I won't use my powers or anything on them. I made a promise. But I'll do what a can as a person. Besides, I think we both know that's an even more powerful thing sometimes. Humans are amazing that way. Before all other things, they trust in humanity even when there are gods."
"This is certainly a chance meeting. Although, I thought it was bound to happen one way or another."
"So true! It's fascinating that so many things happen in this small town. I don't understand how the people here grow so bored. It's fascinating just to watch them. Why don't they watch each other?"
"Oh, I see there's even another one of me around. This is an even more interesting town than I thought."

"Isn't this what humans do for fun?"
"Okay, so maybe humans had the right idea with Topsicles." Lick. "And bikinis." Lick. "But how are you supposed to get sunscreen on your own back?"
He watched her for a bit before he sighed, his shoulders sagging as they often did. "…Given the amount of doubles floating around, I don’t know if you’re the one that’s ‘mine’, but…"
There was a definite pause as he stared at her, lips stretched out in a slight grimace. "Izanami," he finally murmured. "Unless you have a name you use when dealing with regular people as a gas station attendant, huh?"
She laughed. "Why do you call them doubles? Can't you see? They're all the same. The others who share your face... They are you. They're a you who veered down a slightly different path at some point. This place, Inaba... What makes it so welcoming for people with the abilities I awakened in you is that there is such a thin veil between the worlds. If you're not paying attention, you can walk right through to another. And once you do it enough, it becomes expected. It's the same reason why you can go to the world that exists in the televisions."
"You can call me Izanami if you'd like," she said with a shy smile. "At the gas station, they just call me Nami. I'm not sure yet if I like that, but names are a tricky business among people. Won't you tell me what you'd like me to call you?"
Souji shook his head. “Last time we shook hands… that’s when everything started. I’d rather not." He looked over her outfit, remembering her as he’d seen her last as a looming vision of stripped carcass. “Are you actually working here now?"
Izanami tipped her hat to Souji. "I am indeed. I can switch back to my other form, but it takes a lot out of me. This way, I get to experience things for myself instead of relying on a few people to act as gauges. Humans are so interesting, though. It's been so long since I was one... I can't tell how much they've changed."
"Seta Souji." He said the words before wondering whether he even wanted her to know it. Her actions, though… she was a far cry from the foe that had sent him so close to eternal death. “I don’t know that I’d call them happy memories. You tried to kill me. A lot."
"I did. At the time, I was trying to do something for the greater good and you were preventing me from making as many people happy as I could. I thank you, though, for stopping me. I can see now that some feelings spread faster than others. I will not play with that power any longer." Izanami held out her hand to him. "Perhaps we can be friends now?"
When he noticed, he…wasn’t sure how to react. Part of him was curious, especially with what was going on in the back of his mind. Part of him was nervous, distressed, but he pushed it back.
After all, even when it came to mythological gods, the end result was a skirmish between three potential husbands deciding who got to put a bitch in her place.
"You know, I looked you up again - all the stories and so on. Aren’t you supposed to be disgustingly ugly, or did all that just wind up on the inside this round?"
She smiled at him despite the pain his words caused. This one had had influence beyond the others and his own joy had been magnificent to witness. She would allow him a little leeway for the pain he must have been caused when his happiness had been taken away just as her own had been. "I had a human form before, much like this one. It was how we first met. Do you not remember? Then again, I remember you well, but your name is one I don't believe I ever had the pleasure of knowing."
Souji couldn’t help but notice that there was a new gas station attendant. That face… it was one he couldn’t forget. His hand curled into a fist remembering the handshake that had seemed to start everything. Slowly, he walked over to the attendant. “I thought you weren’t coming back."
"I thought I wasn't either." Izanami looked him over. Taller. Stronger. Just as brave. "I'm glad you remember me, though. I hope they're happy memories." She smiled. "By the way, what's your name? I don't think I've ever known it."
