Bunny thief! { open }
Luckily for the safety of the other girl, Ester was let free and Alice scooped him up, feeling a whole lot less angry. Of course, people can’t just go around picking up other people’s pets (even thought Alice hasn’t known Ester for more than a minute..), but she decided to forgive the girl for her insolence. She was quick to return the bunny, after all.
As Alice held Ester in her arms she was quite content with how relaxed this bunny is around her. Maybe he can sense that they’re both rabbits! With a bit smile, she lifted him up and set him on her head, listening to the woman talk about her pet Dusty. Arms now free of Ester, she crosses them and a foul expression appeared on her face again.
“Whaddya mean ‘shift gravity’?” The statement came off like she girl was some all-powerful being, in which she appears to be the exact the opposite of. She looks like she can’t even move a table without help. “Anyway, I haven’t seen any gravity-moving animal.”
Ah, perhaps she was coming off too mean. The stranger grew wary of Alice’s grumpy expression and was backing away. The brunette sighed and scratched her head, not sure how to handle this girl. She didn’t like that it sounds like she can move gravity (actually, Alice found it very unnerving), but it seems like she doesn’t mean any harm. The girl caught Ester, too, so she has a debt to pay. “Nothing’s wrong.” She tried to sound reassuring but the words only came out as short as the last. Let’s try that again.
”.. I can help you look for Dusty, I suppose. But I need your name.”
Right, Kat reminded herself, Gravity Shifters don't exist outside of Hekseville... or wherever she was originally from. So obviously this girl would have a hard time believing what Kat was capable of.
"Y'see, as long as I've got Dusty with me, I can, well, mess with gravity however I'd like. I can fly, hang in the air, walk on walls and buildings and the like, and even pick up people an' other things and carry 'em with me for as long as I want!" She knew that the girl probably still didn't buy it, so she added, "as soon as we find Dusty, I can take you for a ride to wherever you'd like!" Although most of the people she'd taken for a lift before hadn't exactly had strong enough stomachs for the ride... hopefully this girl would be different.
"O-oh," Kat added, remembering what the girl had said to her, "my name's Kat. Yeah, I know, it's kinda weird when my friend is a cat... or at least cat-shaped... but it's not my real name. I don't remember anything 'bout my past, and, well, that includes my name. Th' name 'Kat' was given to me by a friend o' mine back home, and, well, it stuck."
Kat straightened herself out and motioned for the girl to follow her. "Anyway, we should probably get started looking for Dusty... don't worry, he's impossible to miss -- I mean, he IS a cat-shaped piece of stars and space an' stuff, or at least that's what he looks like. No one's real sure WHAT exactly he is... oh man, I'm sorry, I got sidetracked... anyway, he can't have gone too far, 'cause if he does, he comes right back to me, which means he must still be somewhere nearby."
As Kat started walking, she could tell from the heaviness of the girl's footsteps that she wasn't all that enthusiastic about helping Kat look, but Dusty had gotten away from her before, and every second without being able to shift gravity was one second too many. She felt weak, empty, without him.
"Oh," she added, "and if you do see him, whatever you do, DON'T try to catch him. He does... interesting things if someone besides me tries to touch him, an' that isn't a good kind of interesting."
