another Morgan Weistling study. Studying his paintings is hard, trying to imitate the natural brushstrokes and colors.
I learn so much from doing these.
Video process of how I painted this is coming soon!
procreate = awesome for coloring in sketches.
One of my old paintings from earlier this year.
St. Martina (c.1635-1640). Pietro Berrettini (called Pietro da Cortona) (Italian, 1596-1669). Oil on canvas. LACMA.
Cortona has portrayed St. Martina as the embodiment of health and beauty even though she is said to have suffered numerous tortures, including being hung on a hook, before she was ultimately beheaded. She is shown holding the hook as well as a palm frond, a traditional symbol of saintly martyrdom; her right arm rests on a fallen structure, a reference to the Roman idols she refused to worship.
