This Dick is living his best #dadlife with his husband Roy, and his step daughter Lian. He also has been raising Damian, though there is some struggle around what they are to eachother.

I want to be active on here again. I also REALLY can’t be bothered to make another blog when I have one riiiiight here.

Dick knocks before pushing open the door to Tim’s room. Most of the room is a bit of a mess, which is expected, Tim never was great at keeping a perfectly tidy room. But, in the section of what floor must have originally been clean, lies Cain and a massive mountain of papers and several boxes of files.

“Hey, man. How are you?” He asks, sitting down next to Cain.

"uh yeah, that'd be great thanks" he mutters, eyes glued to the thick file he's engrossed in.

Glasses having slipped to the tip of his nose, he can't be bothered to pause and push them back. He's spent hours mulling over each document he's found. He's not sure what he's looking for, but he'll know it when he finds it!

...at least that's what he's been telling himself.

There's this nagging feeling like Tim left behind so much unfinished business. Obviously, Cain now has to take over the job. That's what he does. Anything Tim needs doing, Cain will take care of it.

After the funeral, the will, the cleaning. He holds on to what he can. Logically, he knows this won't bring him back. He's not even sure this stuff has answers.

but his handwriting is in the margins and he can still remember his voice. How long does he have until he forgets it? The way his heartbeat felt in an ocean of complete silence?

he can't think about that. so he traces each letter. Tim's own grief over Kon inked into research documents. All his notes on Bruce and Dick and Jason. He's so incredibly smart and funny and him.

He misses him so much it could crack a rib.

Dick sighs and starts straightening out papers. There’s files on everyone. Even on him… but he knew that, of course. He’s even read his own copy of this exact file. But flipping though it and also seeing Tim’s extra margin notes… he holds it close for a moment, before setting it aside and and organizing all the files back into their places.

He’s worked enough cases with Tim to know how it all goes.

He also sees a basket of random assorted papers and frowns.

“What’s all of this?” He asks Cain.

How bad you'd consider it is up to you. It technically wasn't super egregious but was definitely a choice.

And then there was a lot of personal issues between us as well, reminiscent of my ex from hell.

I dont think they're a creep or anything it wasn't anything like that i would've posted about it if it was, but... Idk.

I can't decide how much of what behaviors someone else will tolerate but the only other people I've met that have treated me like she has treated me the last *nearly six months, are people everyone who is friends with me want to punch in the face, so.

I think that's the best way I can put it without sounding like I'm giving some sort of an armchair diagnosis.

When Cain arrives in the medbay, Arwen's lying on her side, curled up and faced away from the door. An IV bag is connected to a tube in her chest, though she's completely pulled the blankets over her head. She seems to be sniffling.

The second Cains eyes land on the poor kid, he forgets about everything else.

How his hair isn't washed or brushed, just thrown into some kind of bun. His shirt has a few mystery stains on it, curtesy of Eden, who is happily perched on his hip watching the world pass by.

He knocks twice on the door frame to let her know he's there before stepping inside. setting down his bag and taking a seat in the chair beside her bed.

"hey sweetheart" he prompts gently. Both Cain and Eden tilting their heads to the side to look at wren.

Cain hesitates briefly before carefully tugging the covers back. Offering a soft sympathetic smile as he brushes her hair back lightly.

Arwen looked terrible. She had a nasal cannula in her nose, supplying her with oxygen, and her eyes were red and swollen from crying. There was a clear rash over her nose and cheeks, but besides that, she was pale. She kept sniffing and wiping her eyes.

She was, for now, in a patient's gown. There was a tube sticking out of her chest, hooked up to an IV bag. The tube itself didn't look new, more like something she'd had for a while and simply never mentioned. The rash, however, seemed to have spread across her body.

She looked downright miserable as she bit down on the joint in her thumb.

Eden was quite vocal about his displeasure. less scared, more karen like that his dad wasnt working fast enough to fix the crying. He takes matters in his own hands and drops his prized sock on her head.

"yes E, Thank you for sharing" He replies automatically while removing the sock. He can check on the medical specifics later, right now, his baby was crying.

He carefully runs his fingers through her damp hair. Touch light and careful to not hurt her further.

"we missed you"

Arwen doesn't seem to react much to the sock, though she did frown and look at Eden a little pathetically, a little sadly, like she felt bad for crying in front of the baby, her lower lip sticking out ever slightly.

Even with light touch, strands of her hair came out- not many, since he was gentle, but her hair was tangled and hair came out anyway. She hiccupped quietly, her cries very quiet but there nonetheless.

"i gotcha, you can let it out" He whispers, which after Eden gives his two cents of very sympathetic babbling. Leaning over way to dramatically for a 7 month old and joins in the soothing.

He's more patting the bed, but he tries.

Cain smiles, warm gaze returning to Arwen, "It's okay honey. I know this sucks. You're handling it very well, I'm so proud of you"

"They won't let me leave," she whispers through her tears. "Roy said I can't make decisions right now. I'm a danger to myself."

She wipes her eyes, trying desperately not to just straight up sob. A part of her wanted to throw another chair at Roy. The rest of her was just too emotionally exhausted.

Cain scoots his chair closer, which Eden its really happy about cause now he can rest his big head on the bed.

"I know its hard to believe right now, but i understand. I promise I'm not going to let them hurt you. Although i can't directly go against Roy, I'm on your side. I'm not leaving you to do this alone" He whispers, like the volume means they don't have to put up the usual front. Like being quiet will make her understand he's being beyond honest, and hidden here, no one dangerous will see she's human.

he wipes her tears with his knuckle. taking great care to be gentle and weary. Not because she'll break or because it could hurt, but because if its light enough, she has the comfort of pretending it never happened.

She reaches a hand over, rubbing her thumb over Eden's head gently. Her breathing is shaky with her quiet cries. She understands why the decision has been made- but it doesn't stop the anxiety that it brings, the knowledge that she doesn't have a choice and that she's going to have to relieve cytoxan again.

"I want to go home," she sniffs. "Like, I know why this is happening but- fuck- I can't do it."

Her quiet cries are evolving more into sobs when she speaks, though she is certainly doing her best to be as quiet as possible. It doesn't stop her looking any less terrified.

"I know my love. Its petrifying. There's nothing i want to do more than take you home. As soon as I can, we're going home" he sooths, rubbing slow circles along her spine.

"I'm not leaving until we can take you home" He adds, silently praying for some other solution. Some way he can help without doing more harm. All he can really do, is hold her hand

She presses her face into her pillow to cry for a moment, knowing her infusion would start soon- Roy had said so. She was dreading reliving it, especially without Orion here. The thought of Orion felt like a punch to the gut. She missed him terribly, plagued by survivors guilt and the knowledge of what had really happened.

"I said I can't promise not kicking and screaming," she mumbled once she'd removed her face from her pillow. "Because I can't. I know what they're going to give me, and I'm scared. And when I get scared like that, it's like I can't control myself. My body just reacts without me doing anything."

"you kick and scream as much as you need to. Whatever gets you through it" He replies, glancing at the door periodically when any kind of footstep echoes through the hall.

His eyes always return to her though. Just incase she poofs into smoke. In the back of his mind he's already mapping out how to go about this. definitely a talk with roy, maybe call dick or camie.

all in time though. Right now, He gently caresses her cheek to keep her grounded.

Dick waves at Cain as he and Lian walk in. In Lians hands is a straberry pink highland cow from Build a Bear.

“Wren! Wren!” She smiles and pushes the plush to her. “Push the um… um… the foot button!” Dick picks her up and kisses the top of Lians head.

“Chill, kiddo. Arwen is tired sweetie.” He rubs Lians back and smiles softly at Arwen.

“Roy will be up in a minute with your food, so you can get a good snack in before treatment.”

He smiles tiredly at Cain. “Hey, man. How are you?”

“Oh! Hey there kiddo. How are you?” He asks. “Where are your parents?” He asks as he walks a little closer, but not too close.

She doesn't seem to hear him- or at least, acknowledge him. She's staring at her pebbles, lined up from biggest to smallest. Cass taps each one, checking they were definitely in the correct place.

“Kiddo,” Dick circles around and when he sees her face his eyes go wide. He’d know that face anywhere.

“Cass?” He asks

She raises her head a little at her name, but her gaze doesn't break from her pebbles. She flutters her fingers before picking the pebbles up and putting them back with the other pebbles. Only then does she briefly glance at Dick.

“Those are some pretty rocks… wanna bring them inside, sweetheart?” He asks with a soft hum.

She fidgets with her eyepatch, hopping in her crouch to stare at the pebbles some more. After a moment, she shakes her head, patting the pebbles gently.

Dick frowns and hums softly as he thinks. It’s really not super safe for her to stay out here alone…

“What if we sit for five more minutes with the pebbles out here, and then we go inside. And if you want you can bring them in?”

She gives a short hum, having lost interest in the pebbles now. She looks at their surroundings quietly, chewing in the dirty sleeve of her hoodie. Eventually, she looks over to Dick and his grocery bags, eyes flicking between Dick, the bags and his house.

Dick smiles, and offers his hand. “Want to come in and have a snack kiddo?” He asks. “Roy and Lian will be home soon, and I bet Lian would love to play.”

She doesn't seem overly sure on playing with others, but she does take his hand. Her sleeve is pulled over her hands, dirty and a little damp from her chewing.

Dick holds her hand gently, and leads her inside, stooping to pick up the groceries.

Once inside, he leads her to the couch, and sets out a few varieties of crackers and a couple juice box options; one with a big red apple and the other with a mix of fruits on it.

“I need to put groceries away, but here’s a snack for you kiddo.”
