quentin trembles above the boy. with peter's mask tugged upward he was able to make out his bleary eyes and mournful expression. his fingers hesitate to tighten as the villain becomes enraptured. he eases off enough to allow peter to breathe, but remains straddling the boy. his rage burns violently in his chest, swelling until he was certain he would explode. quentin glares daggers into peter's brown eyes, angry that peter was able to disarm him so easily. it was that adorable face that doused his rage and turned it to ash. quentin could feel the visions of his eyes shimmer with tears, and immediately stands up. he stomps away, wiping at his face in the hope that peter couldn't see him like this.

slowly the magical forest quentin had generated faltered until only the warehouse was left in its place. quentin stood in the middle of it, surrounded by destroyed drones and dusty boxes. "the universe must really hate me." quentin states, crossing his arms beneath his chest as he looks up at the dingy ceiling. "even here you exist to taunt me. to remind me of how much of a failure I am." quentin runs his hands over his face in frustration, battling to keep his composure. "I had a chance to take you out and I couldn't even do that." quentin had no idea what sort of hold peter had over him, but it was infuriating. he hated the boy with every fiber of his being, but was utterly and hopelessly obsessed with him.

"     we   don't   always   have   to   be   like   this,   quentin.     "        peter   says,   letting   out   a   cough   as   he   finally   felt   his   breathing   settle.   he   then   turned   to   face   the   man,   before   slowly   walking   towards   him.      “     this   is   a   different   universe,   with   heroes   that   doesn't   even   know   who   we   are.   who   you   are.     ”
