When painting from photos, notice how a camera often reduces the richness of color. The photo here is mostly one warm shade, while in the painting I introduced many subtle variations—cool tones in the shadows and warmer notes in the light. This contrast brings the portrait to life. Lesson: Expand your color range beyond what the photo shows.
