Zoltan Tanac receives Gold medal for paper from the CWA

Zoltan Tanac from National Steel Car receives a gold medal reward from the Canadian Welders Conferences for his paper on "Heat Input and Arc Energy - Why Distinction is Important". National Steel Car is happy to have Zoltan as an important member of our Robotics department. Robotics are an essential part to our work along with Zoltans hard work here at National Steel Car.

NSC supports North American harmonized regulations for Stronger and safer rail tank cars to transport

National Steel Car welcomes today's joint announcement of the North American harmonized regulations for the next generation of stronger and safer rail tank cars for the transportation of flammable liquids. The announcement was made this morning in Washington, D.C., by the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, and United States Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx. "As one of North America's largest rail manufacturers, we commend Minister Raitt for her leadership on this important issue," said Gregory J. Aziz, Chairman & CEO. "Our customers needed clarity on the issue of safety regulations moving forward and today's announcement provides just that." National Steel Car is pleased that the governments have harmonized their regulations. Recent accidents in Canada and the United States have highlighted the importance that the North American rail system be as safe as it can be. Vince De Luca, Chief Financial Officer added "Government leadership with new standards like those announced today is an important part of making the rail sector continue to be viable and central to the success of our local economy." "Since October 2014, we've hired more than 900 new employees and made significant investments in our plant equipment," said Lorraine Johnson, Chief Operating Officer. "By upgrading our technology at National Steel Car, we increase productivity and safety and contribute to a better environmental footprint for North America".  Hugh Nicholson, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Sales & Quality added "We are in discussions with many North American customers regarding orders for new rail tank cars, who want best-in-class safety solutions. We are already manufacturing tank cars that comply with these new regulations and we have additional capacity in late 2015 to accommodate our customers' needs." Canpotex selects National Steel Car for 700 Railcars

National Steel Car is happy to announce it’s work with Canpotex in manufacturing 700 new railcars for carrying Canadian mined Potash. We have been working with Canpotex since 1999 in the manufacturing of over 7,000 railcars.

Canopotex’s success is attributed due to their 43 years as a reliable supplier of potash within and outside of Canada. National Steel Car has contributed to this success with our innovative and robust quality of our freight cars.

The cars we are providing for Canpotex are in house custom designs that our engineers have made directly with Canpotex. Our innovation with our cars has allowed Canpotex to optimize their gross tonnage of product per car, aswell as the number of cars capable of being pulled per train. The use of our cars with Canpotex has increase overall train efficiencies by 90%. Our work has resulted in reduced greenhouse gases as well as enhanced capacities for Canpotex.  As a result, since 2000, Canpotex has doubled its annual rail shipments without adding an additional train and, consequently, without placing any additional strain on Canada’s rail system.

“We are proud of our strong relationship and 20-year history of working with and producing industry-leading potash cars for Canpotex,” stated Gregory J. Aziz, National Steel Car’s Chairman and CEO.  “We greatly appreciate the trust Canpotex has repeatedly placed with our company.  This order alone will secure approximately seven months of employment for over 400 of our 2,400 employees, and will provide significant additional benefits to our Province.”

Potash is Canada’s largest mineral export and Canpotex currently ships in excess of 10 million tonnes per year, representing approximately $3 billion in annual exports. Once in service, Canpotex’s railcars will transport potash from Saskatchewan to Canpotex port facilities in Canada and the United States, to meet the needs of Canpotex’s customers in 36 global markets.

Tomasz Bis Receives Outstanding Technical Achievement Award

Members of the Awards Committee, colleagues and honoured guests: It is indeed an honour and a privilege to receive this award for Outstanding Technical Achievement. First of all, I would like to thank OACETT for having the vision to identify excellence in the achievements of non-members. This recognition is a result of OACETT’s broader understanding of our contributions to society. In my native Poland, in the 1980s, I was unable to finish my degree and subsequently obtain documents and records of my education due to the political unrest. Many foreign educated technologists and engineers, who come to Canada, are in the same situation, and yet they have made significant contributions to engineering design, not only in Ontario but across Canada. National Steel Car is recognized worldwide for its innovative designs and manufacturing of railway freight and tank cars. It is a privilege to have had the opportunity to work with a great team of technologists and engineers. Together we have worked on many different and challenging projects over my 25 years career in this company. In particular - I would like to recognize and thank Dr. Jamal Hematian, Vice President of Engineering and Dr. James W. Forbes, Chief Design Engineer for their support and encouragement. Further I would like to thank Gregory Aziz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of National Steel Car, Lorraine Johnson, Chief Operating Officer and Hugh Nicholson, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Sales & Quality for their expectation of excellence and their support in achieving it. On a personal note- I love to inspire and encourage people, to explore their potential and not be afraid of the challenges that will arise. Always saying “Make a difference.
