Okay a NSFW GraGoh thought
This would never happen with the characterization and such that I've established in my fics but sometimes I entertain myself with the scenario of UrGoh topping SkekGra somewhere in the Valley where they're not very well concealed
And UrGoh is completely focused on SkekGra/what he's doing
SkekGra naturally being quite loud and reactive
Enough for more than one other mystic to shyly come and check out what's going on (like they can't tell)
UrGoh doesn't notice them. SkekGra does. He meets their eyes, blissed out and smug from the fucking he's getting and also very, very knowing. He knows those mystics have had what he's getting, he knows it felt just as good for them. Don't they wish they were where he is now?
They look away. But they do wish that. Oh yes they do.
(And the average level of sexual tension in the Valley increases, much to everyone's dismay. UrGoh remains oblivious and SkekGra does not suggest a more private spot.)
I regularly see handwritten signs stuck into the ground at intersections advertising mattresses for very low prices, and the only other information on the sign is a phone number. It would never cross my mind to buy a mattress this way, but I've always wondered:
Who is selling mattresses this way/are the signs really effective?
Who is buy mattresses this way? If you or anyone you know has bought a mattress this way, please tell me how it went/what was up with the whole process!
Reading a book where there's a character who's very obviously a hulder, but the narrator would not be likely to know what a hulder is or believe they existed if she knew. Curious to see how this goes.
Well, the narrator found out, and from her perspective it seems to have worked out well for her.
This book isn't going to go on my recommendations though, because while the plot held together and the prose was vivid (could easily see it as a movie), there's a specific aspect that basically spoils the whole thing for me.
The book's narrator is a young white woman, about 23, and her narration is intended to show her as aware of issues like sexism and racism, naming the whiteness of other characters rather than letting it remain unmarked.
I mention this because to me it shows that the author does not want to be oblivious to these issues.
This book is an eco-horror set in the Pacific Northwest. Loggers beware, there are things in the woods that will protect the woods.
Okay. The narrator accurately identifies that European colonization and the logging practices that came with it are extremely destructive and dangerous to the ecosystem. Colonialism identified as bad. Great!
The author has placed hulders in the Pacific Northwest to act as protectors of forests. Hulders are beings from Scandinavian folklore. The main hulder character in this book even says that she was born in Finland a long time ago, but she and other hulders came to the Pacific Northwest's forests because they were needed, because they are protectors of all forests everywhere.
Here's what's missing from this book: any mention of any indigenous group that traditionally occupied the forest in which the story is set. So, European colonization is identified as destructive, but who did they destroy? None of these peoples are named. I guess only the trees are a concern? When the narrator references the ages of the old growth trees, her reference points are to European history. What drives her is her connection with the forest that her forest ranger rather instilled in her, but again, there is zero mention of any indigenous groups that either character might have ever spoken to, for the sake of, I don't know, a shared interest in and knowledge of this ecosystem.
I don't know much about the indigenous peoples of this area, myself. But their total absence even in thought from this story is a glaring absence.
And like, I can't help but think that the peoples who traditionally lived on the land that's the setting for this story had--wait, HAVE, beings within their cultures that would make more sense as protectors of this forest than Scandinavian hulders. What happened to those beings? Why did hulders have to come from Finland? The book depicts the presence of hulders positively, as protection for the forest, but to me this seems like another egregious example of colonization.

Happy one yr Anniversary~ ♥
I wanted to do something super fancy but, I fall short on time. Here’s a little something though. I have another thing planned for later. I didn't see the movie till December 12th and then my whole world changed. ♥ I’m so happy to be part of this wonderful fandom.
Does anyone remember that video where it's like some college guys in a pillow fort and one of them uses a puppet to ask for a password, which is like "cinnamon sticks," and then in the background one of them is like, "I'm gonna be honest, my mental health is in serious decline"?
Does anyone have that video?

I like watching playthroughs of horror games, and what I'm learning is that developers will just put a giant spider anywhere, even if based on the premise of the game you would NEVER guess that there was going to be a giant spider there
