DARPA Partners With BAE Systems on new Unmanned Aerial System

Efforts Underway to Regulate Drone Flights

An effort currently underway in the U.S. Congress involves a bipartisan effort by Democratic and Republican members to exert control over drone usage. A proposed bill would provide state, local, and tribal government jurisdictions the ability to prevent drone misuse through the development of “no drone” zones and low-altitude speed limits. In particular, local authorities would be able to set rules on drones that fly within 200 feet of a structure and under 200 feet in altitude. Congress also envisions that the Federal Aviation Administration would partner with local authorities to implement a national drone air traffic management system currently under development.
