[text: wyner] but sorry. you know how crazy the days after debates are. so much fact checking. i am living on coffee and tums at this point. everything okay?
she’s so relieved he’s agreed to come over and take a look at it. she’s so beyond lost when it comes to this sort of thing. “oh, thank you, thank you! you are just the best, bailey. what would i do without you?” she really and truly doesn’t know. bailey’s always been there, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like if he wasn’t. “let me know when you get here, okay? i’m gonna get some towels and stuff before you get here.”
bailey agrees to keep her posted before hanging up and gathering what he needs. if he takes a minute to change his shirt into one a little nicer before heading out, well, that's between him and his mirror. bailey texts elsa when he arrives and grabs his workbag from the back of the truck. bailey grins at her when the door opens. "hey. let's get this fixed, yeah?"
“well if you’re sure,” she responds. finleigh can’t help but feel guilty, but she doesn’t say anything about it. it’s already bad enough manners that she’s knocking on his door at this hour about something so silly, but she doesn’t want to make it weirder by dragging out her apologies. “you are seriously savin’ my life right now. i was about to be spinnin’ all night if i couldn’t find one,” she says as she steps into his room, unable to stop herself from looking around. she pulls the cuffs of her sweatshirt down over hands as she stands, shifting her weight between her feet. “still, i probably shouldn’t’a just knocked and assumed you’d have one so, thank you for bein’ nice about it and helpin’ out. i owe ya one.”
ozzy sifts through various items on his desk and mutters to himself. "i just used one yesterday. where did i leave it?" he asks himself. he turns a little to grin at her. "don't call me a hero yet, still have to find it," he jokes. he snaps his fingers when a memory pops into his head. "ha! i remember," he tells her, reaching for his bag and easily finding what he needs. ozzy drops his bag back onto his chair and passes over the highlighter, rubbing at his neck with his free hand. "i promise, it's usually way less chaotic in here. just finishing up a project," he explains. he shakes his head. "nah, you owe me nothing at all. kindness begets kindness or something. at least i think that's how my pop worded it? i've had a lot of coffee."
“hi. sorry. are you okay? i didn’t mean to startle you and now i feel bad.” finleigh takes in the giant coffee spot on his shirt and can’t help but feel even more guilty. “i didn’t want to bother you and i wouldn’t if i had another option, but i’m hopin’ you won’t judge me too much. do you have a green highlighter i could borrow by any chance? i got, like, halfway through color-codin’ my notes and everythin’s all closed now so…sorry. i’m bein’, like, the worst neighbor.” she wishes she could say it could wait till tomorrow or she could use a different color, but her brain just isn’t wired that way. it’ll bother her all night if she can’t get it done now that she’s started.
ozzy looks down at the mess he's made of himself and blushes bright red. "oh, no, don't worry about it! leaving my coffee there was an accident waiting to happen if you had knocked or not. don't feel bad." his eyes widen a little at her request and he finds himself nodding before she even finishes speaking. "yeah, no, i get it. that makes total sense. mixing up colors would send me spiraling so i totally get it. just, uh," he looks behind him at his messy desk and disorganized study area, grateful that that's the only part of his room that's chaotic. "come on in for a second. i know i have a green one somewhere, just gotta find it," he tells her, leaving his door wide open and turning away to start digging through piles.
“oh, thank god you answered, bailey,” elsa gushes the second she hears his voice on the other line. “i hate to bother you, but my kitchen sink is sprayin’ water everywhere anytime i try and turn it on. and i have no idea where i turn the water off. you think you could come over and check it out for me? i’ll owe you big time.”
the worry in her voice is easy to detect and he frowns to himself in concern. "you're not botherin' me at all," he's quick to reassure. bailey takes a quick stock of his supplies and starts reaching for a few tools he may need. "hey now, none of that. of course i'll come take a look. just give me a few minutes to get some stuff together and i'll be there soon, alright?"

finleigh honestly can’t believe she’s doing this, but the bookstore is closed and she’s desperate. which is definitely a little embarrassing because who the fuck gets desperate about this of all things? she knocks on the door to her neighbor’s dorm, hoping he’s in.
ozzy can feel his eyes starting to blur as he stares at the code on his screen. he's got a half-full cup of strong coffee balanced precariously on his networking textbook that topples over when the sound of a knock on his door startles him just enough to bang his leg against his desk. "fuck!" he curses and scrambles to right his cup with one hand and uses the hem of his shirt to mop up the spill with his other. "uh, just a second," he calls. he's more than a little frazzled when he finally opens his door a moment later. "hi?" he asks, somewhat breathless but hopefully not too rudely.

elsa doesn’t know what’s going on with her sink, but it’s acting like it’s possessed. and there’s only one person she knows who can fix this that won’t make fun of her for not knowing how. at least not too much. so she dials bailey’s number as she paces the kitchen floor. please pick up, please, please.
bailey mutters under as his breath when his knuckles scrape against the wire shelf he's organizing. the sound of his phone ringing is a welcome distraction for his mess of tools someone so helpfully un-sorted for him. his eyes catch on the caller id for a moment before he answers. "elsa? you never call. everythin' alright?"
"it does make sense, but it makes me sort of sad. that people would speak to you so unkindly. i forget, sometimes, that you have much more liberty with what you can say. sure, i can twist things a little, but never enough to be a lie. at least, maybe, that will help you believe what i'm saying is genuine?" she's not sure that she's making sense now, but she hopes that she is. or that sutton will get the point she's trying to make. carys smiles brightly when she thanks her. "you are so welcome, sutton. thank you, for always being so kind to me."
"not all the time. there's a lot of kindness, too," she assures her friend quickly. sutton nods along as she listens. "i'll work on remembering that. with how i grew up, you get a little used to people saying what they think you want to hear instead of what they actually mean. i'm going to be a work in progress with this," she admits. sutton laughs a little at that. "being kind to you is easy. you're my friend. i want you to always know how much i care about you."
milo thinks through his schedule. "i don't think we have anything going on, but let me double check with arwen when i give her a call later tonight to make sure. i'm sure we could make it work, though," he answers with a shrug. "so he's got a big family too, huh? have you met any of his siblings or other family yet?" milo's just so curious about this mystery guy. and happy that leah trusts him to be the keeper of the knowledge for a bit. "...do mom and dad know about him yet?"
she smiles, pleased and proud at how committed milo is to arwen. she thinks they just work. "great! i'll check with roarke too," she smiles. leah nods. "yeah, he's got more siblings than we do. and i've met one of his sisters but we haven't ventured much beyond that. just kind of easing each other into it." she lets out a deep sign and flops back. "well... no. i haven't really told anyone. i told winnie i met someone but not that we actually went out so you're kind of it in the who knows in the family list."
"how can i be too kind when i'm just telling the truth?" not that she could do anything else, but she can't remember if she's ever mentioned that to sutton. she can't remember if sutton even knows she's not human. carys feels a little stung when she doesn't want to accept the gift. "it's a gift, sutton. you don't have to do anything for a gift. it's for you, as a token of my appreciation."
sutton thinks about it for a moment. "sometimes the truth seems too kind to believe when you're not used to hearing the truth kindly. if that makes sense?" she turns to face carys directly. "i think it's a human thing. humans are pretty shit about honesty and even more shit about being genuine." sutton runs her hands over the dress. "this human is also not used to getting such thoughtful gifts. at least not without some sort of string attached," she explains further. "thank you carys, i'm honored."
milo nods along as leah talks. he understands where she's coming from. hell, he'd understand wanting to introduce him one at a time without the other added drama. their siblings can be a lot. add in the rest of the family? it's a mad house. "hell yeah, i wanna meet him first. not only because i want the bragging rights. he seems cool, it'd be nice to get to know him. maybe we could do dinner like the four of us? or do you think that'd put more pressure on it?"
leah rolls her eyes at that and shakes her head fondly. if there was one thing all the siblings had in common it was their need for bragging rights. she shakes her head at that. "i don't think that would be too much pressure at all. roarke also has a big family so he understands that craziness. i think doing a double date will take some of the pressure off. and also i would love to spend more time with arwen. next weekend work for you? i think roarke and i had vague plans anyway so i know he's free."
"oh, no, no. i don't believe that for a second. you're such good company, why wouldn't i want to be around you?" maybe it was just that she had to mean everything she said, but it was also important to carys that sutton know that. "then it's yours, easy as that."
"i think you're far too kind," sutton laughed. her head whipped around to face her friend. "you're just giving this to me?" she asked before shaking her head. "no, no. you have to let me pay for it or do something. this is far too generous."
milo lets everything else drop the second leah starts giving him info on this new guy. he's surprised that he hasn't heard about him yet, but he understands wanting to keep things close to the vest at the start. he hadn't wanted to such much about arwen, as if talking about her would somehow jinx it, but now he hardly shuts up about her. he smiles as she carries on, happy that leah's found someone like that. "and when do we get to meet this roarke o'connor? because it sounds like things could be getting pretty serious. and he seems like he's a good guy, but it'd be nice to see for myself." he wants his sister to be happy and it sounds like she is, but leah's always looked for the best in others. he needs to make sure she's not ignoring any red flags.
leah blushes a little when she realizes she's been carrying on and on about roarke. she bit her lip and nods. "of course," she assures him. "i mean, i might wait a little while with everything that's going on to introduce him to winnie and flynn, but i want you all to meet him. getting all my favorite people together sounds pretty amazing," she smiled before making a face. "you're getting introduced one at a time though. i don't want to scare him off." she doesn't think it will scare him off, but why take any chances? "you want to meet him first?"
"i don't think they're ready to hear what i have to say, but we'll find out. i'm happy you like her. she's definitely good for me. i just, i really love her, you know? hold on, leah, you've got news like that and you let me rehash the flynn and winnie drama again before you told me anything? you know i'm gonna need more details. what's his name? where'd y'all meet? you can't just say there might be a boy. but at least you told me enough to let me know he's not a total idiot if he thinks you hung the moon."
"if we wait for them to be ready to hear the truth, i worry we'll be waiting a really long time. how could i not like her when she makes you smile like that? anyone who makes you so happy will always have me in their corner. alright, alright, i'm sorry for not saying anything sooner. it's just... it's special, you know? his name is roarke o'connor and he's just incredible. he's so funny and creative and so much brighter than he thinks he is and when he holds my hand i feel invincible." leah paused. "he's not what i expected but he's everything i've ever wanted."
"does it look okay? are you serious? it looks stunning, you gorgeous, gorgeous thing." carys moves closer to adjust the dress ever so slightly, making sure it lays perfectly on sutton. "i knew this color would look great on you. you really like it?"
"if you keep complimenting me, it's all going to go to my head and then you won't want to be around me anymore," sutton teased. she turned her body this way and that way, wanting to see it all in the mirror. "i... i absolutely love it. i feel pretty? like confident and ready to take on the world? really is a magic dress."
“you definitely shouldn’t be near either of them more than you need to because they absolutely will try and drag you into it. they only haven’t tried with me because they know i’ll tell them both to grow up. and you can always hide out with me. even when they’re just being normal annoying and not whatever the hell they have going on right now levels of annoying. but milo’s good. minus those two, things are actually really nice. arwen’s still puttin’ up with me, so i’m good. how about you? how’s leah doin’?”
"i almost wish they would try with you so you can verbally kick their butts and help them see how foolish they're being. the stubbornness in this family sometimes i swear. and don't say that, Mi, or i'll be hiding out with you forever. yeah? i like arwen. have i told you that yet? she seems really good for you. and i think she's more than puttin' up with you. you just need to take one look at her and you can tell she thinks you hung the moon. and leah's also good. i think... i think there may be a boy who thinks i hung the moon too."
“it’s a dream dress, really and truly. now go try it on so we can both marvel at how gorgeous you are!”
“okay, okay, okay. i’m going!” sutton makes quick work of the dress and her breath catches at how soft the fabric feels against her skin. “i don’t know if i even care how it looks. i never want to take off this dress.” she steps back out and spins a little. “well? don’t hold back. does it look okay?”
