“But it’s a start, isn’t it?” He returns Taemin’s amusement and laughs a little as he tries to strike up a list of other things they had in common. His smile falters half a fraction however when the Slytherin brings up sexuality, and at first he’s confused. Was that normally something people brought to attention when discussing common traits? Of course, on a side note-- he and Taemin had been kissing each other frequently (Or to be more accurate-- he had been the one kissing Taemin), so he supposes to the Slytherin it was a subject that should probably be addressed. Even though part of Jonghyun had just assumed that it would be fairly obvious by now what his sexuality was. Stating that he’d never had an interest in anyone along with the, y’know, whole kissing another boy thing; Jonghyun hadn’t felt that a verbal clarification was necessary.
But alas, Jonghyun coughs awkwardly and glances away from the Slytherin. “Actually, you can strike that last one off the list.” He had never told anyone besides Onew, Teo, and his family that he was gay, but Taemin was someone he wanted to pursue so it was kind of a no-brainer that he should tip the male off on this little detail. “I’m gay.”
His gaze flickers back over to the prefect nervously, almost scared that Taemin would recoil at this new tidbit of information. Taemin soon becomes quieter though, and Jonghyun feels his eyes widen when the Slytherin outright addresses the nature of their relationship. A part of him had been expecting it, since logically speaking, it had all suddenly shifted rather suspiciously. What Taemin didn’t know though was that a large factor behind it all was that Jonghyun was actually romantically interested in him. But that didn’t mean Jonghyun still didn’t genuinely want to become Taemin’s friend, either.
“I...” He pauses, fingers fiddling with the fabric of the blanket between them and he too swallows before continuing. “I meant it when I said I wanted to be friends. I don’t want to fight with you anymore, and you and I both know by now that when we don’t find something to bicker about, we get along pretty well.” He can feel his cheeks heating up a bit, but along with that there’s a nervous churning of his stomach. “Also, I... I never hated you.” He finally looks up then, meeting Taemin’s gaze. “I’m sure when I was younger, I thought I did. But I was also a child, and now that I’m a little older, I’m able to differentiate what I was really feeling. You got on my nerves, you hexed my friends, and called me names. Of course I was going to develop a dislike for you... and I’ll admit I enjoyed humiliating you... But I never did hate you. I want you to know that.”
Looking away again, his blush deepens just a little more as he continues. “To be honest I... I know more about you then I let on... not in like-- a creepy way or anything--” He quickly stresses, trying to save himself from embarrassment. “But.. I learned things.. from being friends with Key-goonie.. and Jieun more recently. So, I just.. I came to understand that we got off on the wrong foot from the very beginning and, well, we never gave each other the chance to smoothen things out. I... I want to do that now. It may sound silly but, I want to have a good relationship with you. I like getting to know you, and I like spending time with you. I’m being honest so... don’t think ill of me.” He looks back down and this time there’s a barely there hint of sadness in his tone. “Don’t think that I’m doing all this for some hidden reason... because I’m not... I like you Taemin. I really do want us to be friends. Good friends..”
They were all words he’d wanted to say to the other for what seemed like forever now, but under the wrong circumstances the subject was out of place and awkward to talk about. He thanks Taemin to the high heavens that he’d finally been given a window to explain himself and his recent actions, even though they had all been a build-up of over a years worth of silently admiring and falling for the Slytherin boy. His romantic affections couldn’t be made known just yet, but this for now, was enough.
Taemin’s arm is soon casually slipping over his waist though and his mind blanks of all previous conversation, a newfound blush blooming across his cheeks. “Uhm.. I-- I’ll have to get back to you on that--..” is all he can manage to reply with because dear Merlin Taemin was almost cuddling with him if only he moved just a little closer-- And he tries, in his own not very subtle kind of way, to inch closer to the other all the while keeping up their conversation and hoping the prefect wouldn’t decide to pull away lest he get too close.
However when the topic takes another turn, Jonghyun is focusing less on the way Taemin’s hand is now slidinguphisarmohmystars-- and more on what Taemin was actually saying. His eyebrows furrow and he’s genuinely troubled over Taemin’s predicament, his brain working to try and come up with something to possibly help the other male. He comes up shorthanded though, and with a small sigh, his expression sags a little. “That’s not fair..” Taemin’s hand begins to travel and Jonghyun feels his skin heating up once again, his ears feeling hot under the confines of his hat. “You thinks so?” He murmurs, though half of his attention is starting to shift away from the conversation again. As brilliantly happy as it made him to hear that Taemin had this much faith in his abilities, his body seemed to be more excited over the fact that Taemin’s hand was caressing over his neck, his jawline-- oh-- and his lips--
“He works for the Committee of Experimental Charms, so he wants me to follow in his footsteps I suppose. But really-- any high end job within the Ministry would probably do. Of course that committee would be my best shot at studying the creation of new charms and such.. I’d be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry... I wouldn’t be able to really conduct the kind of spells I want to, especially if I’m only limited to charms,” his mouth is answering Taemin’s question but his expression has pretty much already dazed over, his eyes blinking slowly as he more happily follows the movements of Taemin’s fingers over his skin. Unknowingly, his own hand is beginning to reach out, fiddling with the fabric of Taemin’s robes to keep them occupied.
He laughs lightly. “What are we? Two old witches who can do nothing but complain and gossip over tea? Yeah right, I don’t want a mundane future like that..” he smiles and closes his eyes, this time finally shuffling himself even closer until their bodies were brushing against each others. Leaning down, he nuzzles his face against Taemin’s chest and sighs, a happy smile spread along his lips whilst his fingers curl loosely into Taemin’s robes. “Thanks... it makes me happy that you think so highly of me. If even just a little... I’ll work hard, so be prepared to start seeing my name all over the Daily Prophet.” He chuckles softly. “Maybe I’ll even get to appear on a chocolate frog card.”
