This is a synopsis for a story I’m working on. What does everybody think about it?
“REMEMBER”
Some memories refuse to stay buried.
Elliot "Ell" March thought he left the ghosts behind when he traded his combat camera for a job with American Terrain. Now he wanders forgotten towns and broken landscapes, chasing beauty he’s not sure he believes in anymore. A cigarette in one hand, a battered Brownie camera slung over his shoulder—the past is never as far away as it seems.
When an assignment drags him into the dying heart of Wister Hollow, Ell discovers a photograph tucked in the corner of an abandoned library—an image that shouldn’t exist. A young girl smiles in front of a firehouse that no longer stands, and worse, she seems to know him. But the photograph was taken before he was born.
Drawn by a history the town wants desperately to forget, Ell uncovers the story of Eleanor Ashe—a woman who dared to reveal the town’s secrets and paid the ultimate price. As memory bleeds into reality, Ell realizes he isn’t just documenting the past. He’s living it. And Wister Hollow isn’t finished with him yet.
Armed with a cracked camera, a promise he doesn’t remember making, and a heart worn raw by war and regret, Ell must decide: will he walk away like everyone else? Or will he finally make them remember?
REMEMBER is a haunting, slow-burn noir about memory, guilt, and the quiet violence of forgetting. For readers who love atmospheric mysteries, broken heroes, and stories where the past is a living, breathing thing.
