it’s done maybe. I might as shading later and make individual characters maps to show o head cannons and such but yaya! It’s done I love these dumb bears.🐻
So I'm rewatching the whole show, and it's really interesting that season 6 is just packed with the 20 minute episodes (which in the other seasons either add lore or characters, and are referenced in future episodes).
Which makes sense seeing as the show was ending (though without the very last season or a massive episode/movie which would have completed that cliffhanger ending).
But it does bare the question, had the show not ended there, how many seasons did the Gummi bear team think they were going to get?
Im not 100% on 80s/90s programming behind the scenes, so this might all be wrong
but I think they knew six would be the end, or at the very least renewal was unlikely. IMO a show should always write with what it has, rather than what it *might* have, or else you end up with those shows that were fantastic but canceled after two seasons because corporations are run by non-artists. Paranormal Park i miss you.
So taking advantage of the 20 min slot to its fullest was the best way to explore the plots they wanted to cover, as well as give the show a good send-off. too this day im suprised "King Igthorn i+ii" are not the shows true finale (instead i think the troll episode with the mining machine is the last one to air?) But whenever i recommend the show to someone I just tell them to watch King Igthorn last, it makes more sense narratively. I like it ending on a cliffhanger/unresolved, since it matches the shows thesis on progression and moving forwards, rather than neatly tying it all up. That Said... a movie to end the whole series miiight have been good? I have my reservations about cartoon movies, they either do super well or add nothing/rehash what we already know (see: the Steven universe movie, i did not care for it) so Ill leave that where it is
If the show were to go on longer, i could easily see another two seasons working, as there is more to explore. If the show was not married to igthorn being the big bad, there are more villains they could introduce, more settings and gummi stories to explore.
Cast bloat is a concern (MLP FIM's final seasons with the school kids comes to mind). Sometimes, esp if the show has a large cast, the writers zero in a very select few, leaving interesting side characters in the dust (M*A*S*H, for example, focused heavily on the main 7/8 characters by the end while earlier seasons implied broader relationships between camp members) While other shows simply add more and more characters until it looses focus and needs to awkwardly cut back to what the viewers know from earlier seasons. Ideally, a AOTGB season 7-8 would introduce new characters sparingly and instead develop out the relationships they have between the Humans, Glen Gummis, and Barbics, as well as the other occasional Gummi.
Personal preference however, would be for a new show that takes place post-canon, but continues forwards as if its simply season 7+, using the same cast of characters but just going on into new adventures. Alternatively, a prequel, maybe set during the mass Exodus. That way theres no ties to the existing show, and new viewers dont need to watch 6 seasons of 80s cartoon television to get all the lore (but they should imo.. hehe!)
As much as I ADORE Adventures Of The Gummi Bears [it's actually my favorite of the Disney Afternoon shows], the way the show treats Cavin sometimes can get very frustrating. ESPECIALLY with Up Up And Away [admittedly, Cavin shouldn't have been out so late, but him getting in trouble with Tuxford and losing his status as squire because he can't tell them about the Gummis is really unfair] and The Crimson Avenger [I never liked the trope of innocent characters being framed for villian's actions, and especially in this case, as Cavin was FAR from the scene of the crime, and yet nobody aside from Calla and the Gummis ever stops to think Cavin might actually be innocent, which he is].
rly interesting take, cavin often does take the fall for the gummis because they simply Cannot be found, but even then the other characters just pick on him because hes young, its kind of funny imo
alight wanna see zummi angst? 😏
go for it
if the gummis appeared in ducktales 2017, sunni would totally be a mcduck fan and researcher
oh for sure! Honestly a crossover would be fun
Here have my gummi oc princess missy
also if there was a movie would zummi be a major character?
I love her
If I was writing the movie Zummi would be a major character for SURE, I think theres a lot of potential for a zummi-focused movie, especially when you look at the finale of the show (king igthorn), as well as how Zummi is one of the most well-rounded characters. (Grammi and Sunni are the others). As for what the movie would be about... Ill have to put some thought in
Talked about this with some ppl a while ago, I had an idea for a Gummi bear! toadwart AU, where pretty much everything is the same, toadie is just a gummi bear
The idea is that he was adopted by ogres as a baby (luckily avoided being eaten because he was too cute) and didnt know he wasnt an ogre until his clan was recruited by igthorn, who pointed out he wasnt an ogre after all - he was a gummi bear. cue a mild crisis of identity for 8 minutes.
that all said, toady dont care, and rather hates the idea of joining gummi society. hes an ogre, just a funny looking one.
The other gummi's reactions to toadwart in this AU have been... complicated
I think it's really interesting that going from like a few episodes scattered about the 5 seasons and especially in the very first episode, there's a suggestion that Calla and Calvin are supposed to like possibly be into each other.
But it's clear that that idea didn't much go anywhere, so Calla and Calvin for most of the other episodes when they interact are just portrayed as having sibling energy.
The shows lack of commitment to romance plots (with a few exceptions) is honestly a relief, as much as i love cavin/calla its great the show just focuses on them as people and friends first more than anything else, and leaves the door open for a lot of fun dynamics between them!
This is mostly just to make sure my F/F goggles aren't strapped on too tight, because I really can and have seen sapphic potentiality everywhere.
But Sunni and Calla's interactions in the show scream "we're feeling something that could be romantic but we're currently too young/too embedded in a world where queer people aren't around to know that" right?
Like every episode that they're together they're like two magnetic needles pointing right at each other?
Based, I'd really love to see Sunni and Calla grow up and fall in love, I recently re-watched the episode where Calla and Sunni meet (the magic hat episode) and the quickness in which they embrace each other. Sunni already thought she was amazing because shes a princess, but i could easily see that interest as an undiscovered crush that sunni just treats as friendship because... well what else could it be! They're both young, and the gummis isolation from humanity isnt helping, but as time goes on they could absolutely make a lovely pairing
Don't you worry, the goggles are strapped tight against my head (after all I've already written two fics about them, Dreams and sleepovers and Burn Marks, with more on the way). Honestly the wild thing is that after the magic hat episode, Calla and Sunni are like "My best friend, best friend in the whole world, my bestie" about each other in basically every episode they share. Even the one where they get mad at each other has multiple times in it that both risk death to save each other, as well as keep the Gummi Bears existence a secret.
And it's not the usual girl best friends that you find in most kids cartoons. There's no times where they fight over boys affections, no times they're envious (besides Sunni generally wanting to be a princess) of each other, at best there's one episode where they get shitty at each other but like they get over it real fast.
Sure Sunni is supposed to like Gusto (but like, I really think it's mostly that Gusto is the only bear in his like 20's she's ever met and the only one she doesn't immediately think of as Family).
Anyway, glad I'm not alone in seeing the potential.
Im so glad theres no “sunni and calla fight over a boy” episode. if anything the shows lack of romance as a subject is a relief, theres a few episodes that imply romance but its not like an ongoing plot
Sunni having a crush on gusto is honestly fine, and as you said makes sense since hes the first non family member in her life + the attention is nice, shes a kid with her first celebrity crush <3
sunni and calla are ride or die DAY ONE sunni/calla wedding to reunite Gummi and humankind lets go
This is mostly just to make sure my F/F goggles aren't strapped on too tight, because I really can and have seen sapphic potentiality everywhere.
But Sunni and Calla's interactions in the show scream "we're feeling something that could be romantic but we're currently too young/too embedded in a world where queer people aren't around to know that" right?

A wedding! How delightful, I had a bit of fun making up the wedding attire. I really enjoy zummi/grammi being old and in love, makes me happy
revealing your scaring the hoes type interests early on in a relationship is a good way to secure only hoes of bravery and fortitude that will craft horrible dreams and beautiful nightmares with you
Zummi/Grammi top tier ship tbh, Childhood friends, last of their generation, they know eachother so well and would protect eachother with their lives. Little bear lost remains a favourite episode just because we get to see them work together so well
I have to confess. I'm starving. I want content. I want to eat bears…
Мне потребовалось 2 месяца, чтобы понять как именно я хочу рисовать этих медведей и перерисовать наконец эту июньскую шутеечку
