she had seen him angry before but this felt like something different. adam was bothered by something she couldnât see, and it confused her.Â
ââ that may be how he was in the past, but thatâs not how he is now,â she said, brows furrowed. puzzles pieces were coming together in her mind. âhe mentioned he went to school here â did you go here too? walt academy? did you know each other then?âÂ
he had mentioned before that heâd been to high-class educations, but had never come to this conclusion. of course they would come to elias if he already had connections here. she had always thought it was because of the magic.
the calculation in belleâs eyes softened when they caught each otherâs gaze. âi know. i was never worried that you would stop me, adam. no matter what you say or do, i will still be friends with sulley. but ⌠if heâs done something in the past to hurt you, i want to know. youâre just as important to me, youâre ⌠youâre my family here,â she said. âwhile your feelings wonât stop me, itâs still important for me to know them. so ⌠will you tell me? please?â
she reached out her hands for him to hold.
adam heaved a sigh of exhaustion at the thought that the one person he cared about could have such high expectations for someone like james...but this was belle, always seeing the best in those who did not merit it; he certainly did not merit her compassion. the prince was aware of this fact. but he was grateful that she had given him a chance when he had not even his own parents on his side.Â
"none of it matters..these are just my own feelings and thoughts. it was a long time ago," he replied as he recalled his behavior back then. nothing to be proud of for a prince attempting a reinvention. all of it was humiliating to even think about.
"belle, he never harmed him. no. no. it bears no relation to any of that." he observed her small, delicate hands and found himself holding them in his. cheeks warm while maintaining eye contact with her."it appears that i caused harm to others in the past, just as i do now. james...he saw through my act exactly as you did. i suppose i am somewhat envious of him..i hate him but also i am not sure.."Â he said as he shifted the subject with a tender smile. âoh forget it. i have something for you"

adam had made it a habit to wander out of the dark walls of the castle. small initiations to get out of the shell that he had constructed. at least that was the sole purpose. to feel closer to the mortal side; to nourish the human and further himself away from the beast within.
yeah right.
belle would be proud of the little efforts. he had found comfort in the gardens, they were quite, leaving him to his thoughts and ideas. he was strolling through rolls of rose, when he turned in the direction of a questionÂ
âdoes it no depend on the color of the orchid?âÂ
as he spoke, adam ran his fingertips over the petals of an orange orchid. "i certainly hope that your peers are capable of making their own decisions; you don't need to monitor them.âÂ

âthis city is nice and all but sometimes i miss stepping over trash in the street.â april said with a sigh looking over to the person next to her, ânew york had a different kind of.. charm. this place doesnât even seem real itâs so clean sometimes.â
adam was taken aback by the offhand remark that seemed to be aimed at him. âare you sure we're talking about new york city?â he questioned, gaze now lower in order to meet hers.Â
âbecause if we are, then i just don't get the appeal of the garbage piles, the stench of pollution, and the constant, annoying noise that comes with living in that city. how is the charming in any way? "
xbellerousseauâ:

she watched him carefully. she was practiced now, in the art of taming adam. she remembered a time before she knew his name, when she called him âbeastâ â as some of the other servants in the castle did. belle was someone who was insistent on moving forward. working towards the future. adam was adam â always had been, always will be â and she wasnât going to let him forget how far heâd come. how far theyâd come together.Â
âyouâre forgiven,â she said softly, with a short nod.Â
âi know itâs never me youâre mad at. most of the time,â she added as an afterthought. belle smiled a little when he said he was proud of her, and then the smile sobered as they began to talk. she would not let this go.
âit does matter,â she said. âadam, you mean a lot to me. and now so does james. sulley. weâre very good friends now,â she started to explain, a brightness and warmth in her eyes â hoping to show adam that this was true. âi am happy, but your comfort and happiness is important to me too. if youâre open to it, i want to hear what you think of him. and why he makes you angry.â
the prince's responsed with an "excellent," followed by a nervously low chuckle, the sort of thing that reverberated through the spacious library.Â
it was complicated to explain why he felt this way. adam had difficulty articulating his feelings, and had the tendency to feel too much at times. throughout his time at the academy, he was labeled emotionally unavailable by his classmate, and they werenât wrong. still, the thought of him and her. Together. prompted him to act in bizarre ways. predominantly rage with overtones of envy and jealousy. it soured his stomach to think that he would have to share belle, the only person who truly understand the prince with someone like james.Â
"belle, in all candor, it really doesn't matter. please don't let whatever I say or feel prevent you from having a normal experience. james is one spoil and ungrateful man, with a loud mouth that matches his big ego. the way i feel doesnât mean a thing in the long run.â
brilliant pair of brown eyes peered directly at his good friend before looking down at his hands and stating, "it makes no difference. i am delighted that you are forming friendships and living life to the fullestâÂ
cfsullivans¡:
Sulley was having a very hard time keeping Adam at bay. He had no idea why because he was pretty sure the man had hated him with his entire soul when they were teenagers. Heâd helped him once and the man was hounding him now. Sulley really didnât need this right now and he was trying his best to just keep the other at armâs lengths.Â
He peeked out of his kitchen to see whoâd walked in and felt his face fall at the sight of the Prince, âDonât âgood morningâ me, you ass. How did you get in?â
"very disrespectful, james," adam sighed, waltzing up to the kitchen counter.Â
"i have my methods, you should know that" with a playful tone, he positioned the plastic counter and a vase of hydrangeas in front of them. fairly speaking, he had no explanation for his presence. he would blame it on having an eye on him now that belle was working for him..but it was more of a change of heart. the prince was aware that Sulley was attempting to avoid him at all costs. he had not even sent a thank-you text for the innumerable breakfasts he had provided the last couple of days.Â
âif you're trying to avoid me, why?â as he propped his elbows on the cool marble island and pondered the topic, attention falling upon him.
 âyou didn't appreciate the presents?â
evcrythingniceâ:
there were moments where brynneâs kindness was her fatal flaw, a shield that hid her from malice on a normal day. most people wanted to match her energy in some way, so it almost shook her on the rare occasion that they didnât. eyebrows raised at the manâs words, harsher than she expected them to be.Â
âif you arenât hungry, you could have just said that,â she snapped, eyes rolling as she turned away. âor no thank you. literally anything else would have been less rude.â
âhungry?â adam was completely taken aback; the whole thing was too much for him to handle. under his breath, he could not help but chuckle as he watched the young lady turn away.Â
"you are asking a total stranger whether they are hungry? did your parents ever instruct you not to speak to people you do not know?â given the level of crime in the city, it was astonishing to see so many oblivious residents there were just wandering the streets.Â
xbellerousseauâ:

her cheeks tinted pink, still uncomfortable with compliments despite how sure she felt of her own abilities ⌠most of the time. it was always different hearing it from other people. especially adam, considering how their life together started.Â
she jumped as the book fell. as he reacted, belle frowned. she bent down to pick up the book. âadam, you donât need to do that,â she said, eyes looking from his face to his fists on the table. âi donât appreciate it.â she set the book down next to her. â⌠iâll take your words as you meant them, and not how it sounds,â belle sighed, knowing that some part of him really was proud of her new job. the only problem was sulley.Â
âi had a feeling there was something about james that you didnât like but âŚâ she shook her head. âbut why?â
there werenât many people who could tame the beast. yet, at a very early stage in their relationship belle had done just that. she had accomplished the impossible task by demonstrating that she would not back down. her persistent baffled the price.but regardless he was thanksful-.. grateful even.. when the man was being overshadowed by the monster, she would remind him of it.something even a prince who had been raised with a silver spoon occasionally required. right now was one of those instances.
adam extended his fingers on the table, hands now flat on the surface of the furniture. refreshingly chilly upon inner palms. "forgive me" breathy but under control. to put it bluntly, it was unpleasant and unnecessary. he was making an effort to start over. Improvementâfor the sake of both him and her.
âapologize if I startled you, i have no idea what possessed me, but it has nothing to do with you. i applaud your achievements. proud even.â head was bowed and he stared at his hands as he spokeÂ
"james - well, in the course of things, it really doesn't matter. would you disagree? if you're happy, i'll hold my tongue."
Her feet were silent upon the earth. Moonlight lit her way, peaking through the trees as she walked. The woods were familiar and untouched in a way that put Wednesday at ease. Big trees were kings, as JĂłzef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski once wrote, and the forest surrounding Elias were filled with trees both young and old, all reaching for the sky. Her all-black ensemble allowed her to blend in with the shadows, and the cold air was biting. It was a good nightâ until she heard the sound of footsteps further ahead.
She moved towards the noise, avoiding the undergrowth and leaves deftly as the sounds grew nearer. Eventually, she found herself standing behind a lumbering beast and she tilted her head, considering the being for a moment. "Now this is a surprise."

the call of the full moon was louder this time. the sensation, both energizing and anchoring, like a buzzing in his ear that he couldn't get rid of. different each time.the prince had disappeared deep into the forest. away from his family and friends, skin searing with each step as if he were being immersed in a pool of molten lava. he had no other way to convey it. weighed down and in anguish, he was left wondering where the beast would go next. what the night had to offer this time around. what adventures it would take. each new phase, one step closer to losing himself to the gnashing claws and gnashing teeth that was this nightmare.Â
further awayÂ
the moonlight crept through, illuminating the shattered remains of a prince whose form was not human nor beast..not yet..at least. pulse quickens and head turns in the direction of the voice. the struggle within becoming increasingly difficult. his mouth made a series of grunting noises, as wide radiating eyes peered into the darkness. there was a chill in the air as a deep, hostile, and agonizing snarl of "LEAVE!" reverberated through his throat. âNOW!â

belleâs lips quirked, always finding it heartwarming and amusing to see adamâs etiquette at play. sheâd almost started doing it herself â standing whenever someone entered a room. in moments like these, she remembered her friend was a prince.Â
she chuckled. âi suppose marvelously exhausted is better than looking like the walking dead,â she gently nassaged her cheeks and the bags under her eyes. at his question, belle smiled, tilting her head, preparing for the revealing conversation to come. âiâm an executive assistant now â unexpected, i know. but iâm working with a friend. at sullivan inc.â
adamâs hand reached for the book on the table that seemed to separate the two. pair of eyes never leaving hers as he watched the pure exhaustion that seemed to radiate from his dear friend.
âdonât be silly. you are always marvelous. must i remind you that?â respond given in a serious manner, forehead creased, at the possible outcome of being overworked. at the reality that perhaps he was mistreating their friendship. that he was not doing enough to support her as she had done for him. sullivan inc the book he was holding slipped from his fingers, ushering in a wave of skepticism that was quickly replaced by something else.
eyes widened and tongues clenched. "sullivan," he muttered, oblivious to the open book on the floor whose pages were now facing down in the frigid wooden floor. shoulders tensed, he slammed his fists down on the table and snarled, âi am so pleased for you." breath was short and his teeth were bared. âso proud. really!â
Thackery
it had been a rather slow day at the library today and thackery had been keeping himself busy with a long list of small tasks - sweeping, refilling pencil and pen holders, dusting shelves, and putting returned books back on their respective shelves. he was working on the latter at the moment, toting a small cart of hardcovers around with him as he moved from aisle to aisle. after passing the same aisle a few times and finding the same person within it, he took it upon himself to stop and gently pipe up. âis there anything in particular i can help you find today?â
adam had become disoriented among the titles, uncertain of what he was seeking. when compared to his collection of first editions and popular authors, he found the selection of books they carried to be somewhat lackluster. it did, however, have one flaw. a wider selection. the prince had traveled to this little location in search of an alternative. hunting for something that would divert his mind from the obvious facts of his life.Â
âapologise, perhaps something brimming with excitement? one with a good ending for once." he responded instantly by diverting his gaze from the vibrant spine back to his eyes.Â
"is that asking too much?"
the prince wasn't entirely convinced of his conduct. since their previous interaction, he has been unable to shake him from his mind. he never truly cared about the CEO who believed he had everything. but something had changed. a swift in the air. he went out of his way to leave small trinkets as a way of expressing his gratitude. without ever receiving a thank you. although it didn't brother him.. the internal animal was upset by it all.
"good morning, james," he said as he finally unlocked the door.Â

â hey friend ! are you up for an adventure ? iâm currently on the hunt for the cityâs best breakfast burrito. â
adam was on his customary stroll. the breath of fresh air provided several benefits. it had enabled him to think, not being surrounded by dark walls and ancient history. following his friend's advice, he decided to explore the city. he stood in front of a store that sold an assortment of antiques. the sight of an old iron lantern transported him to a period when he was much younger and a curse was the least of his worries.
"pardon?" he turned to face the young woman who had approached him in an overly enthusiastic manner.
âmust you be so obnoxious? or are you merely desperate to be noticed?â

â ⌠iâve been so busy with my new job, i â â she breathed out a soft, tired sigh. â itâs been a lot. but i miss our talks. how are you, adam ? â
adam was so preoccupied with his own unfortunate circumstances that he failed to inquire about her place of employment. not that he wasnât unaware. he had taken notice of her time away. each day a little longer than the next. as she traversed the deserted halls of the castle, leaving a trail of his scent behind her. an itch on his nostrils, like pollen on a spring day.Â
the prince glanced up from the stacks of books he was busy sorting when he heard her enter the library. quickly coming to a stand "good afternoon belle. you look marvelously exhausted"Â
"what is this job you're referring to?" concerned eyes regard the young woman in front of him.Â
enfleurlead¡:
his eyebrows knit together immediately, lips pursed ever so softly as he turns to look at his companion. their situation was . . odd, to say the least. exes turned friends who happen to share kisses, occasional hand holding, intimate moments beyond that â but still just friends. ask rory and heâd be the first to say, he doesnât want things to be this way. itâs confusing most of the times. days heâs left wondering what they are, why rene isnât just calling it what it was. days spent feeling like a ghost when he doesnât hear from him stuck between his office job, university, university work and his night job. and yet, the second he receives a text from the other itâs as if his entire world lights back up. everything was okay again. until the messages faded once more and he was left feeling like before. a constant cycle . . one that rory would rather continue instead of stop forever.Â
back to where they were now, rory reaches for the sleeve of the otherâs sweater to make sure he didnât even dare try it. â donât you start, mister, â his tone lowering, trying his best to come off as menacing. however, he knew rene to know that enough empty threats would do absolutely nothing. and so rory quickly settles for lacing his hand in his instead, making sure that if he did try anything heâd be pulled along with him. not to enable such behavior but instead to try and stop it altogether. â seriously, if we kicked out because of you iâm never talking to you again. â another empty threat. it irked him how he was so sure rene knew it too.
his final idea: a distraction. reaching his free hand over to reneâs cheek, he pushes him lightly to face him once more. with eyes locked, hands locked â he hoped it would work in his favor. â please, â he pleaded with soft eyes. â letâs do something else. something thatâs actually fun for both of us. â
fuck he was cute. all those subtle and imperceptible mannerism. yearning eyes and icy delicate hands drew his focus away from the little game he was attempting to initiate. rene wasnât stupid. he knew. just as his body knew how to take a breath, he was aware that there were lingering feelings between the two. he loved to play the part at times, which is how he had ended up his boyfriend. romance that ended prematurely owing to his own self-doubt and uncertainty. not because of those feelings. but because the idea of ever disappointing him-..rory was too good for him. thus he'd kept him at arm's length, making it up now through their warm and intimate inreactions.Â
thumb lightly running in a circular motion across the surface of his, hand being held firmly. âyou would neverâ at least he hope he wouldnât. breathly against his ear, their intertwined hands now being guided towards his own lips, âiâll be sad,â eyes fixed on him, unperturbed by the crowds of people walking pass them. nothing mattered.Â
âvery sad," spoken softly on the top of his hand accompanied by a tender kiss upon creamy, heated skin. âfucking depressedâ face leaning toward the hand that stroked his cheek. âfine, you winâÂ
âgot any suggestions on what we should do?"
