a note on Earth's MAC stations.
they're canonically geosynchronous not geostationary, meaning they stay at a fixed-ish longitude (east-west) but their latitude (north-south) drifts throughout the day due to the inclination of their orbit. (it's actually a figure 8 crossing the equator, but) this allows them to reach areas geostationary satellites can't – these must remain directly above the equator, but they are perfectly still in the sky.
in both cases, the station must orbit at an altitude of 35,786 km, which is obviously far higher than is depicted in game.
basically, it's impossible to be in geostationary orbit over a city not on the equator. hence they don't appear where you might expect them to at the moment the level takes place.
come to think of it, this wouldn't even be an "issue" if in-game they were shunted a bit farther south AND appeared at the right altitude to be geostationary. that would have been far simpler than the other solution – animating the skybox to show the north-south figure 8.
