If ever there was anyone who could make Logan feel the slightest twinge of guilt, it was Juliette. As time passed and they grew older and further apart, Logan recognized they saw each other less and less. Somewhere inside he disliked the idea, given he was not the worst brother and actually loved his sister, but their lives were on separate paths. Logan’s life was everything good for the family business, affording him little time to pay attention to what it was Juliette was doing, especially when it had nothing to do with benefiting the family.
But still, as Juliette turned to leave, Logan only felt briefly triumphant. As happy as he was to have gotten his way, he was struck with a reminder he’d brought Juliette to Westworld so she might forget the outside world and have some fun. Looking back at the bleeding thing, he sighed and rolled his eyes.
As there was honestly no way of knowing what the right way was to go about this torment business to get his answer, Logan didn’t know how much longer it was going to take. Now that Juliette had somehow managed to suck the fun out of this for him, Logan felt he just couldn’t get back into it like he’d wanted to before. Half of him wanted to rebel, to carry on regardless, a need to show no one could affect him and make him change his mind - not even his sister - but that half was quickly losing. Logan’s fingers wrapped around the hilt of the knife and he pulled it clean, the robotic thing wailing in freshly born pain. Another sigh and he tugged his pistol from its holster, pressing it to the thing’s temple and pulling the trigger without a second thought, putting it out of Juliette’s misery.
He’d wiped the blood clean from his hands by the time he went downstairs, even found a fresh shirt to change into, too. New supplies weren’t hard to come by if one new how to look. Logan went to where he saw Juliette and crossed his arms, looking down at her. He didn’t look entirely pleased… he looked annoyed, in fact.
‘ Since that narrative is out, it’s up to you to decide what we do. So, come on. What’s it going to be? ’
Since before she’d really grown up, their father always scolded Juliette for her tears, but it was a hard habit to break; Juliette had always been the sensitive one. The tears were small and few. Every ounce of willpower she had left was used on keeping her face dry. What few drops managed to escape were wiped quickly on her dark green prairie dress.
“Enough of all this puerile behavior, Juliette. Start acting like a young lady, not a child.”
Their father’s voice in her head. She found a spot near a window where she’d be left alone and the afternoon sun pooled in. She could occupy the time by watching the people come and go. Hosts, guests, Juliette couldn’t tell the difference. All she knew, was that out of everyone in the whole park, she belonged there least of all.
And then, after not much time at all, someone stood behind her. Juliette turned slowly and her eyes popped wide to see Logan standing there. Didn’t he have a man to torture? Some gruesome task to earn some gruesome clue? No. He’d given it up. It didn’t matter how reluctantly he abandoned it, only that he left it behind at all. The edges of her mouth slowly spread wide until her teeth were showing. She leapt on him, arms tight around his neck and a thick kiss pressed into his cheek, just above the edge of his beard. When her feet touched the floor again, her skinny fingers curled around his shirt and tugged it slightly. She couldn’t stop smiling.
“I don’t know, but it’ll be good, I promise.”
