Nowadays kilts are becoming more popular formal attire not only among Scots but also among other countries. Now with more modern enhancements the kilt is a new statement in fashion and has a wide range of cool designs. It is so great that even the Japanese wear them despite there being no Gaelic heritage of any kind.
The kilt is in fact ingeniously crafted attire. It is thickly woven due to which it was waterproof way ahead of its time. Also it is more comfortable due to its free form design. You can look manly in a kilt but its fine if women wear it. You can buy universal tartans that are unisexual.
So if you are wearing a kilt it would be best that you wear it properly. You should avoid making mistakes that many celebrities and other people make in donning the traditional Gaelic attire. So here are a few pointers:
1. The kilt should measure to fit off your waist rather than below your ribs. Wearing the kilt below your ribs will make you look like you are wearing a school girl’s uniform and result in considerable ridicule.
2. Do not wear white socks with your kilt. It is possibly the worst thing to do when you wear kilts. Preferred colors are black, blue and gray. Believe me they look awesome.
3. Although modern kilt makers provide an option of adding a pocket to your kilt, wearing the traditional Sporran (small, leather, fasten-around purse worn with the kilt) is much recommended. Make you look badass and does not put any weight on the kilt that may slide it down.
4. Do not match tartan with a tartan tie. It looks perfectly horrible. Wearing a bow tie is much more suitable.
5. Finally by no means ever manage to wear your kilt backwards. Trust me the results are not going to be nice.
