Pieces

The entirety of my life has been a collective of pieces

Born to pieces

Taught in pieces

Learning in pieces

Processing in pieces

Friendships with pieces

Relationships with pieces

Picking up the pieces

Coming to terms with pieces

Feeling lost with pieces

Until you

All of the pieces seemed unmanageable

An overwhelmed static pile of pieces

But little by little

Piece by piece, we help one another sort the pieces

Painstakingly learning each of these pieces

Having patience with the pieces

Until we have forged something from the pieces

We both step back to see what we have created together

Of these pieces, a beautifully forged future

Filled with love, laughter and growth

Together we will have children, ones who won’t be overwhelmed by the pieces

Who will learn to love the pieces they find and understand

That one day any pieces they have, can and will create something beautiful

Men’s mental health awareness

I was a child filled with hopes and dreams

A smile wide crooked teeth shining like beams

A lust to learn and work with my hands

Dreaming of the day I will become a man

I am a man made of static

My heart heavy and thoughts erratic

Skull torn raw from silent screams

Blood like acid from soured dreams

I had hoped for a life filled with love flowing like water

I was force fed cruelty and given no quarter

Yet each day I rise and put on a smile

Push through the day working all the while

Telling others I’m proud of their success

Making them laugh without holding my breath

For it is together we harmed can heal the struggling

Life is tough, emotions juggling

Be kind, be true, be light at heart

Heal that child, make him proud to start

I bite

To defend myself because all I’ve known is abuse

I bite

Because no words have ever been tender

I bite

Because if I show weakness I will be used

I bit…

Because of the constant pain

I bit…

because no one was gentle with me

I bit…

I bit because it’s all I’ve ever known to get attention

I no longer bite

I no longer bite because I am cared for

I no longer bite

Because the touch that grazes my skin is gentle

I no longer bite

Because I am not alone

I no longer bite

Because you have given this old dog a forever home

Everything, Forever

The day time stood still

Was the day our lips first locked

It’s a memory I will never lose

For time stands still

Each time I kiss you

You are my hearts true holder

My souls one tie

You are the ever loving peace and warmth

I would never pass by

In mind, in heart, in body and soul

I give you my everything, forever to hold

I have traveled with my back to the sun across many sands for many years

Alone I have carried my life on my shoulders

Alone I have carried my misfortune and my pain

One night as the sun set after scorching my shoulders and back

The moon came down to the surface of my barren earth

And she kissed my shoulders , carried my pack and granted me the greatest blessing I’ve been offered

That blessing is you my love

For you lighten my load

Bring joy and passion into my days

And you remind me, every day that all struggles will be met

With a great blessing

When I look in your eyes

I see a future

The future

The future I have always longed for, but never knew it was attainable

It is in your eyes, your smile and your embrace that I know where my home is

You are my one

You are my other half

There was a time where I gave up on wishing

Life was too bleak and tragic

But since you have blessed me with your angelic presence

I believe this world that can be magic

If my thoughts of you produced a flower each time you crossed my mind, I could walk through an eternal garden of beauty until the end of time

Love to me was something like touching a star

You know you can never reach it

But the hope would keep trying

Just as I was losing faith

I was blessed with you

My shooting star

Comfortably landing into my open arms

I have known little peace

I’ve only known to guard my back

A heart made of stone

Teeth sharpened ready to attack

Living life on a razors edge just isn’t living at all

Day by day afraid, when would I fall?

I’d have never guessed it

That my fall would be into love

But when I met you

My heart flew high above

The peace that you bring is a place I’ve never seen

The love that you give, has only been in dreams

But here you are standing in the flesh

To love one another even after death

Through a crowded room

I have seen your face

Run through the shoulders and elbows

Just missing your embrace

For years the invisible threads kept us apart

Now the reason our love now blooms and becomes art

Those threads we damned for the years of pain

Now we bless for we are entwined again

I remember the first time you touched my face

The heat from my heart swiftly moving to my face

Red enough to be mistaken for fire

Puppy love some may have called it

But it was everything to me

Oh how I crave that touch again

Oh how I long to be something to you once more

Never in my life have I felt more illuminated

Never have I felt so seen yet I remained silent

But those days have gone

And you are no longer here my love

I guess what I am saying is that I miss you every day

But you know that watching over me from the skies

My only hope is that when it is my time, we may reside in the same heaven together

My love, my life, my fire, my wife

I don’t want to be trapped in you

I just want to run my time free and alive

This love was never meant to be

You grip my heart and smother me

You can love a flower for its beautiful sight

But you don’t need to pick it to claim Mr.Right

You can water it

You can fertilize it

You can watch it grow

But let it be free and see it’s beauty show

I’ve gone days on my own through the pouring skies

Not a branch to shelter me so in the rain I cry

I search for safety within myself

Build an umbrella, put my heart on a shelf

But what will happen once the rains have gone away

The umbrella I carry is built from past pain

The weight of its once safe harbor now dragging me down

But I’m too fearful to let go, in the rains will I drown?

Unfriendly in the mouth of man with little witt

Foreboding are the eyes of those with something to hide

Warmth comes from the heart but comes from few

Purity in this world, destined to evaporate with the morning dew

So this time

I will clean the cracks

And fill each fissure with gold

A heart this big and broken

Can still yet unfold

I long to let my walls down

Won’t you be gentle with my art?

I promise to be more gentle

Than I ever was to start

I long for that gentle touch myself

I’ll never say that’s untrue

So please love me gentle

Till we can both speak the words “I do”

The child within me was never left behind

Maybe forgotten by others

But forever in my mind

I refused to let this world forget the laughter the child can bring

So I kept him on my back and in my future we sing

We still stomp through rain puddles

And draw on the walls

My child within no longer hears screaming in the halls

I have carried my child on my back and my chest

In this future child can find comfort and rest
