We can't let the rebels get away with this!
"We should strike NOW! While the rebels are still assessing the damages and gloating over their success."
It's awfully dull in here.
*sitting in her hospital bed*
Halim didn't want to be spending any more time in the hospital. He hadn't been badly injured in the rebel attack, but he had gotten some cuts and scrapes that needed to be taken care of, and he frowned in frustration, having never been a big fan of hospitals. Finally, it was done, and he was definitely in a hurry to get out of there.
As he hurried down the hall, eager to get back to his militia post, he casually glanced through a window, and ended up seeing someone he was sure he recognized in one of the patient rooms.
"It's Aylissan, isn't it?", he asked, curious. "I believe we met before, in the market? It's a surprise to see you here-usually, I only ever see you around the bakery. I hope it's nothing serious?"
-reading paperwork from a folder in the woods-
Halim was patrolling in the woods, his gun slung over his shoulder as he kept alert, still angry at the attack from the rebels, and at having lost the prisoner, Cadence Marshall.
He was just about to turn around and head back to Agartha when he heard something. Suspiciously, he froze, cocking his gun as he crept towards the sound.
"Madam Aeris!", he exclaimed in surprise as he saw who it was, hastily lowering his weapon immediately.
"What are you doing out here?", he asked, looking around. "It's likely not safe out here, particularly if the rebels are still out for revenge"

With closed eyes, Aiden could feel his energy leaving him, and soon he was losing feeling, partly because he wanted to. The constant burning and throbbing which was mercilessly demanding attention to his hand, now subsiding to a mere and distant, annoying hum, as he allowed himself to slip away. He wasn’t dying; no, he just wanted to sleep…
The overly familiar sound of the strike of a match caught his attention, knocking Aiden out of his daze. Warily he opened one eye, and found himself making eye contact with his enemy, a second before the match died. Aiden quietly ground his teeth in fury. He despised the man with a passion, and that wasn’t because Aiden hated everyone but because it was Halim’s fucking fault Aiden was in this cave. That could also be traced back to the fact that this man funded the expedition to Antarctica, ergo hiring the incompetent idiot who got them trapped in Agartha, and vis-à-vis the cave. So it wasn’t hard to figure out why he wasn’t particularly a fan.
He hadn’t always hated Halim, in Antartica he respected him, ironically because he was the man funding the expedition. They hardly exchanged words, and so Aiden never had a reason to dislike him, although from the few sentences they exchanged in the forest, Aiden quickly found reason to. The man was even more obnoxious then Aiden himself.
Halim grunted a word, and Aiden snapped back a sarcastic, “Gee, I wonder why that may be?” as Halim tossed over a hard plastic case. It landed by Aiden’s side, in the dim and ever fleeting light, where he could scarcely make out the Agarthian medical symbol, one he had become all too acquainted with during his short stay in their hospital. He almost didn’t want to accept the man’s help, and besides Halim had no reason to assist Aiden. Perhaps the other man had suddenly grown a conscious, or perhaps he realised they needed to work together to get out of their current situation. A realisation Aiden was also slowly and regrettably coming to the conclusion to.
Either way he still wanted to kick the plastic case far away. But Aiden wasn’t an idiot. If his hand wasn’t tended to soon, it ran the risk of becoming infected, and lighting cigarettes would take twice as long if he only had one hand. Aiden shivered at the thought of losing his hand, and kicked off the lid, before leaning over a rummaging through the case’s contents.
His free hand came across a bottle of cream; he tore off the lid squeezing a small amount of the substance on the tip of his finger. It was cold, extremely cold, and taking a desperate guess as to what the cream was supposed to do, wasted no time in pouring the substance all over his shot hand. He felt an instant wave of relief, the cream instantly working to tame the fire in his hand, and Aiden leaned back against the wall with a happy sigh. He held the cream up into the light, but the inscription was written in Agarthian, so he threw it back into the kit. He knew not what it was, but by the miracle it was working, had a strong feeling his original inference was correct. Aiden found it ironic that the Agarthians could create such advance weaponry but at the same time, with such advanced technology in the medical field, could also create the remedy. Supposedly the enemy of Agartha would not hold such creams, although he still gave a weak smirk at the irony. After a few seconds Aiden reached back into the research kit and finding a roll of bandages, slowly and gently began to wrap his injured hand to save the cream.
While he heard Aiden shifting around, likely dressing his injuries, Halim moved to try and shift some more of the rock blocking the cave's opening, and not achieving very much success through his attempts. Many of the rocks were much too large to move, or simply held in place by other rocks, and some, he was simply afraid to touch, fearing that if he moved them, the other rocks would shift, causing another mini-avalanche, and crushing him.
He grunted, managing to push several smaller rocks away from the hole, hearing them clattering down the rest of the pile after he shoved them out of the way. The small hole widened to an approximately one or two foot circle, before there didn't appear to be anything else he could do, and he was reluctantly forced to conclude that he wouldn't be able to shift enough rock to create a big enough opening to crawl through. He stuck his arm through, wondering if he could fit his head also, before remembering Aiden in the cave too, and he spun around quickly, almost afraid the other man would attack him while his back was turned.
"Couldn't clear much of the rock", he grunted, wiping sweat off his brow. The sunlight filtering through the hole was growing weaker and weaker, and he could swear the cave was already several degrees cooler. Finding his emergency flashlight in his militia pack, he flicked it on, scanning it around the cave quickly to make sure there wasn't any sort of entrance he'd missed, and he shone it at Aiden, just to make sure he was still there and not planning some sort of attack or anything.
Pulling up a few roots from the cave floor, Halim clicked off the flashlight, wanting to conserve battery. He assembled the few roots on the ground, and rooted through his bag to try and find any extraneous materials that he could use to make a fire. "We should make a fire", he said, looking in Aiden's general direction through the darkness. "Do you have anything flammable, or that could be used as kindling?". He was definitely not happy to have to be talking to Aiden, but frankly, his dislike of the idea of dying was far greater at that point than his dislike of Aiden.
Taranis began looking around for anyone suspicious. “Communication lines have been crossed. The level of confusion and chaos has created the prefect storm. We haven’t received any word from the men who were supposed to be watching Ms. Marshall.”
Taranis listened to Halim, and nodded. “There is no need for forgiveness Halim. You are a bright solider with a keen mind. I believe that you are correct. Though I also believe that once word reaches the rebels that Cadence Marshall has been rescued, if they haven’t already suspected that from the amount of Militia Men storming the streets, they will begin to evacuate the city and into the woods. Perhaps we can find out which direction they are heading by investigating the fires you speak of. If there are no rebels there, they might have left traces for us to follow. Let’s go, and watch the people in the streets. You will be better at recognizing any of the humans than I am.”
"Idiots!", Halim cursed, grinding his teeth angrily. He was constantly disgusted by the actions of a number of his militia comrades, the ones who didn't seem particularly intelligent, nor devoted to their duties, and he was certain that had there been more men at the prison, and had he been one of them, it would have been an entirely different story, not that he'd ever admit this thought to anyone. "Knowing those fools, they probably fell asleep, or saw the rebels and got scared and just let it happen", he sneered sarcastically.
"Thank you sir!", Halim bowed quickly. "This way, Captain!", he gestured, and broke into a run. "I've alerted all the other officials I've seen, so that the fires can hopefully be taken care of, and order restored"
((OOC: I know it's late (sorry for vanishing...huge test week) but if we're still continuing this thread, what if Halim caught up to Reva with Taranis? DRAMA! ;D )
"The search has begun, Madam Aeris! If we hurry, we can still get them. Did you see any of the rebels, or which way they may have gone?"
No. I did not see them. I have just returned from the prison where she was being held. Her cell is empty and nothing was left behind to give us any clues to where they may have come from….Mr. Masood? Would you please stop by my office later this evening? I’d like to speak with you in private.
Halim cursed quietly. "Not to mention, madam, the fires across the city, no doubt some cheap diversion". He grasped his gun tighter. "But I assure you, Madam, that I, and hopefully every other militia member, will be fighting as hard as possible to make the rebels regret this move" He bowed his head respectfully, wondering what she wished to speak to him about. "Certainly. I will be there as soon as we make sure there are no more rebels in the city, and that the chaos is under control" (should we skip ahead to that?)
"Sir!", Halim ran up, giving a quick salute. "Reporting for duty!". His gun was already out, and he looked around furiously. "Where should we start, Captain? They can’t have gone far, if we hurry, we can still stop them!"
We are too far from the Prison to do much good, by the time we reach it they will have gone. We need to go out into the woods. We’ll begin checking North, outside of the city. -pulls out his own gun- Follow me.
"Yes Captain!", Halim hurried after Taranis, glaring suspiciously around them, for any sign of the rebel intruders. "Did you hear anything about which way they've gone?!"
Suddenly, a new thought struck him. "Captain! Forgive me, but I can't help but wonder-it may be too late to recapture President Marshall, but surely there are other rebels that are closer-after all, it seems unlikely that they only sent one team in to find her. Before I ran into you, I was on my way to investigate the fires that sprung out across the city from the prison, no doubt a distraction by the rebels-Cadence Marshall may be out of the city by now, but surely there are still rebels nearby, and even if we have lost the President, we could at least capture a few rebels in return-AND, think about....perhaps they would be more likely to talk than Miss Marshall was?"

Aiden ducked left and right, attempting to dodge bullets which made the inner wall of the caves shake and crumble beneath the heat of the laser. Running with one burning hand, painfully banging, against his chest was not ideal, and he could feel his legs slowing down merely from the intense throbbing sensation.
Slowing down, he could hear the cave walls rumbling around him, and even louder, the roar of a man’s voice behind him. Aiden turned around in time to see Halim soaring through the air towards him. Leaning back and taking a step away, Halim fell to the ground at Aiden’s feet, and before Aiden could even begin to smirk, a chuck of rock fell between them. Aiden’s eyes widened in terror, the rumbling sound finally catching up to him, and he didn’t need to think long, immediately turning to run in the direction he came.
But it was too late, he had only taken a few steps when a tremendous crack in the wall appeared and mounds of rock began to pile up before him and his chance of escape. He jumped away, falling on his arse, in time to avoid a particularly heavy piece of cave wall, and not wasting a moment spun around, and with his one free hand, scrambled up to run in a different direction.
A new burst of energy spurred him on, and instead of dodging bullets, he was ducking to avoid the crumbling pieces of earth around him. He didn’t know where he was running, but he knew he couldn’t stay still, for fear of becoming a human pancake. After a few seconds he stumbled upon another dim source of light in the distance and not hesitating, made a quick right, towards his new chance of salvation. He saw Halim’s shadow against the dim light, a few metres ahead of him, which made sense for Halim had gotten a head start, since Aiden had attempted running back the way they came. Nevertheless Aiden didn’t think twice about the other man, and continued to run after the light source they were both hurriedly trying to reach.
Aiden saw the moments unfold before him in slow motion; he was catching up to Halim, when the wall caved in, in the exact way it had to him earlier. The newly formed wall was the cave’s final tremor, and if it had not been, then Aiden would have died. When the cave collapsed before his eyes, so close to freedom, it only added insult to injury, and he fell on his knees in despair, and he knew if the cave had continued to collapse around him, he wouldn’t have even tried to avoid it. Aiden crawled to the edge of the cave, leaning against the wall, and tilting his head back as he tried to catch his breathe. Although the dirt choked air didn’t do much for him and instead, began coughing violently. Once his fits subsided, he sighed and closed his eyes. He was bleeding, weak, bruised, exhausted and worst of all defeated.
He heard Halim’s cries, they echoed around the stony tomb, but Aiden didn’t even have the energy to tell him to shut up.
Swearing angrily, Halim beat a fist against the rocky floor in frustration, cursing his bad luck. What on earth was he supposed to do now? What COULD he do? Surely he couldn't just be doomed to die in this dingy, rocky prison.....or even worse, driven insane first by the presence of Aiden Daly. He'd never liked the man, and he was certain the feeling was mutual, especially after their encounter in the woods. Almost as though from a distance, he could hear Aiden coughing, and if he hadn't been so exhausted and out of breath, he would have been tempted to rudely tell the man to shut up.
Immediately, Halim began searching through his pockets, and feeling around for his militia standard-issue backpack, aiming to check and see what supplies he had. Maybe he could hold out until their luck changed, or someone rescued them. Or maybe he could even use any supplies he had to try and find a way out. Food would be a proem, however..... He sighed in frustration. Well, if worse came to worse, he could probably eat Aiden if necessary.....at least it would shut him up. A small smile played across his lips at the thought, even though in all seriousness, he would never have really been able to bring himself to just commit flat-out murder and cannibalism, even if it was on someone as obnoxious as Aiden Daly.
Finding a box of matches, he struck one, and with a hiss, it flickered to life casting a weak light around the small cave. Shadows flickered on the walls, and though the lit was weak, and wouldn't last very long, it at least provided a small, temporary comfort to Halim. He looked over at Aiden, who looked just as defeated as he himself felt. He met the man's eyes for a moment, before the match sputtered out.
The cave was dark, the only natural light filtering in through several small holes and gaps near the top of the avalanche of rocks blocking the cave's exit. Halim was sure there was probably at least another hour or two of daylight, but after that, night would fall, bringing not only darkness, but cold as well. He could almost feel the heat leaking out of the dank, enclosed cave.
Reaching into his bag, Halim found his rather banged-up first aid kit, and he moved closer to the blocked cave exit to make the most of the dim light filtering through to treat the various small injuries he'd gotten during the chase and cave-in. Thankfully, it wasn't much more than bruises, cuts, and scrapes, and he knew he'd been lucky. It could have been much worse.
His gaze flickered once more towards Aiden, who was only a silhouette in the darkness. As much as he hated to admit it, if they wanted to survive, they'd have to work together. Halim grimaced at the thought as he slowly shut the first-aid kit box. Unfortunately, if Aiden was injured, he would be even more useless than he already likely was. Besides, if they got out of this alive, if he was dead, Halim could hardly bring him in as a prisoner. And on top of that, Halim knew that if worse came to worse, he definitely did NOT want to be stuck in a small cave with a dead body. The cave was already bad enough without a rotting corpse to add to the ambience.
Reluctantly, he turned towards Aiden. "Injured?", he grunted. Without waiting for a response, he tossed the first-aid kit towards Aiden, then resumed rifling through his pack.
They’re getting away!! Cadence Marshall is gone! Comb the entire Capital! They can’t have gone too far. They have to be hiding here somewhere!
"The search has begun, Madam Aeris! If we hurry, we can still get them. Did you see any of the rebels, or which way they may have gone?"
All available Melita Men are asked to report immediately and begin the search for missing prisoner Cadence Marshall. Failure to report will be the end of your career. All citizens are ordered to return to their homes at once!
"Sir!", Halim ran up, giving a quick salute. "Reporting for duty!". His gun was already out, and he looked around furiously. "Where should we start, Captain? They can't have gone far, if we hurry, we can still stop them!"
halim-masood-loyalist:
Halim could not hold back a laugh as he saw the look on the other mans face, and saw him shout in pain. The grin slid off his face, and his glee vanished, however, when Aiden turned and bolted away from him. With a snarl, Halim immediately set off after him.
He…
Halim smiled unpleasantly as he cornered Aiden once more. He rolled his eyes as the man began to speak, too preoccupied with enjoying his triumph and impending victory to listen or get annoyed by anything Aiden had to say, because at this point, Halim figured it was obvious to both of them that he’d won, and all Aiden was doing was being his usual, obnoxious, intolerable self in the hope of postponing the inevitable. Halim could hardly contain his excitement. Though he would never tell a soul, deep down, despite his acceptance into Agarthian society, he still felt the need to prove himself again and again, secretly longing for recognition, to be able to work his way even further up into society. And Aiden, right here in front of him, unarmed and apparently alone and defenseless, could be the perfect opportunity. No one had yet captured any of the rebels alone, and though they had captured Cadence Marshall, that had been through a planned attack on a rebel base. Here, it was the perfect opportunity. He could capture Aiden singlehandedly, and bring him in, and it could be just the push Halim was looking for to help him on his way up.
"Still talking, Daly?", he sneered, already tasting victory, sure there was no hope for Aiden at this point. "So sorry I missed whatever attempt at bravery you seemed to be trying to make. See, all of us on the research team figured out long ago that it was much easier to just learn to tune you out rather than try and find whatever importance there may or may not have been mixed into all the drivel that came out of your mouth on a regular basis".
Unfortunately for Halim, however, he was too busy silently gloating to notice Aiden inching towards the mouth of the cave. He smirked. This had gone on long enough. Time to bind Aiden and be done with it. He reached into his pockets for his handcuffs, taking his eyes off Aiden for a split second as he did so. That was when he heard Aiden yell “Bang!” as gee dove away and vanished into the cave.
With a growl of annoyance, Halim dove after him. This running was getting to be very annoying, and he made a mental note to be sure to maim Aiden somehow when he caught up with him, just to teach him a lesson. He knew he could catch Aiden again, but he was sick of chasing after the man. The cave was dark, and he stumbled, bumping into walls, using some rather unprintable language as he accidentally banged his head painfully on a rocky, low section of the cave’s ceiling. Putting a hand on the wall to steady himself, Halim listened for the sound of Aidens footsteps and hurried after the man, firing his gun angrily, blindly into the darkness. The laser-like shots of the gun were enough to dimly illuminate the dank cave tunnels, and the shots ricocheted off the walls, chipping chunks of rock off the walls, sending it clattering to the ground. Halim could hear Widens footsteps growing louder and louder as he caught up to him, and he smiled to himself. This time, he wouldn’t let Aiden talk his way to another escape attempt.
With a gleeful yell, Halim dove forward add he neared Aiden, aiming to tackle the man to the ground. Unfortunately, however, the sounds of the gunshots and the mends footsteps had masked the faint rumbling that had begun to echo through the cave, and as Halim hit the ground, the rumbling grew even more audible, and chunks of rock began to crumble from the walls. Halim’s eyes widened in horror add he scrambled to his feet. “Cave in!”, he shouted„ his voice panicked as he looked around desperately. “Where’s the exit?!” Spotting a faint light in the distance, Halim bolted towards it, all thoughts of Aiden and arresting him gone from his mind as self-preservation began to take over. He ran, starting closer to what appeared to be a small exit, dodging chinks of rock that fell and rolled towards him. Dimly, he seemed to be aware that Aiden was running also, but all that mattered was getting himself out alive. Maybe then of he had a moment, he’d try and save Aiden, because he could hardly arrest him and bring him in if he was crushed to death in a cave-in. The exit loomed in front of him, and for a moment, Halim thought he was home free. CRASH! A thunderous noise echoed behind him, and Halim turned his head as he ran just in time to see a cascade of rocks tumbling down, completely blocking the tunnel he and Aiden had just come through. Putting on a burst of speed, Halim was jolted of his feet by a final, deafening rumble, and he could only watch in horror as an avalanche of rocks and boulders tumbled down, sealing the caves exit, casting the tunnel into darkness, save for one solitary chink of light that shone through a gap near the top. Halim roared in frustration, beating his hands against the wall in desperation, before leaning back against the wall with a groan. He was trapped! And worst of all, he realized with an awful, sinking feeling as he looked around, he was trapped with Aiden!
That HORRIBLE moment when you've spent a really long time typing up a para on your phone, and your stupid cell phone deletes it!
Standing Guard Outside the City
Something is happening tonight…you can almost feel it.
"Good day, Taranis!", Halim smiled as he stepped up to join the captain. "I've been sent for my shift of the guard duty...", he frowned slightly. "I admit, this does not feel any different than any other day, but I admit, I'm surprised that the rebels have made no attempt to rescue Ms. Marshall yet-we must definitely be on or guard, surely they have nor simply forgotten her, it is more the human way to attempt foolish heroics. I have no doubt they will come soon, and we must be ready"
"That is true, madam. Though whether or not she does talk, the fact remains that we have captured the Revolutionists President. Not only that, but now we also know where at least one of their bases in, and though there were no casualties, we caused a great amount of...
"That is quite true. A morale boost could be just the push we need to give our side the edge, and successfully crush the rebels. Though of course, celebrating would be no excuse to shirk our duties our slack off on our guard"
"Oh, I have no doubt they will be trying to rescue Miss Marshall. From my knowledge of the human team, they will want to try and avoid a direct fight, we are unlikely to experience a direct, flat out attack. I suspect they will try to rely more on stealth, but we must of course prepare for anything, though I think reinforcing the guard on the prisoner would not be a bad idea"
Apologies for not posting this to the OOC blog, but I'm on mobile and it won't let me post to it. Just a heads up-I'll be stuck on mobile for today, so I'm sorry for the lack of gifs, and not being able to cut posts or make sure to reblog as text-stupid tumblr app!
What do you think you're doing?!
"I am well aware that we've had some recent success, but sleeping on the job?! This is just incompetent! Get up!"
Reconnaissance mission
Aiden saw him raise his gun, and as Halim fired, he ducked his head immediately, although unfortunately kept his smoking hand in the air. The Agarthian gun fired a strange laser-like bullet, which struck Aiden’s hand with the force of a whip that felt to be on fire. Aiden shouted in agony, the pain causing him to drop his cigarette. The other man began to gloat, and Aiden saw his opportunity. Not wasting a moment, he turned and ran.
Aiden ran not in the direction of the Revolutionist’s base, no, he wasn’t an idiot, but in the other direction. Aiden ran as fast as his legs would take him, he crashed into branches, stumbled over the terrain, and although he wasn’t an athlete, adrenaline pushed him faster then he had ever run before.
After some time, the adrenaline began to wear off, and he could feel the intense heat pulsing in his hand. He looked down to find the palm of his hand scorched, and bleeding profusely. He bit his lip to stop himself from crying, “Fuckin’ bastard… I only have one packet left” he grunted to himself, pretending to be more irritated at the wastage of a cigarette, then the continuous burning sensation echoing from his hand, although as the seconds went by it was becomingly increasingly hard to ignore.
With a final cringe, he pressed his hand, underneath his coat, and to his chest. Cradling it carefully, as he continued to half-run, and half-stagger away.
Halim could not hold back a laugh as he saw the look on the other mans face, and saw him shout in pain. The grin slid off his face, and his glee vanished, however, when Aiden turned and bolted away from him. With a snarl, Halim immediately set off after him.
He pulled out his gun and was about to aim it to try and take Aiden down, before realizing that Aiden was more useful alive than dead-perhaps if he was scared enough, he might accidentally be able to lead Halim to the rebels base. Halim began shooting his weapon erratically after Aiden, purposely missing, while making sure that each shot was close enough to make Aiden think that Halim was trying to shoot him.
Unfortunately for Halim, he was too busy trying to catch up to Aiden and scare the man to watch where he was going, and his ankle caught on a tree root, sending him sprawling painfully to the ground.
Swearing loudly, Halim got to his feet, grunting slightly in pain, cursing again as he saw that he'd now lost Aiden. Grabbing his gun off the ground and angrily shooting the root that had tripped him, he started off again in the direction Aiden had taken, wandering through the woods quickly as he tried to locate his missing prey.
He walked quickly and quietly, listening hard for any noise that might give away Aiden's location. He was about to give up and continue his patrol when he heard a rustle, and he stepped behind a tree and looked through a bush just in time to see Aiden stumbling away through a clearing.
Smirking to himself, Halim hurried around, sneaking through the woods to get in front of Aiden so he could cut him off and ambush him.
Waiting until Aiden got nearer, Halim stepped out from behind his tree, and aimed his weapon at Aiden's heart. "We meet again", he smiled nastily, shaking his head. "Clearly your lack of athletic ability hasn't changed since the Research Mission"
