Kato Shigeaki: Nishikido-kun and I were in the same group together for about eight years, and he was the strictest and most respectful big brother to me. Even when he left, I still cared about him. I don’t know what Nishikido-kun was thinking about now, but my of him at the time was that he was a candid & transparent person. He’s a person who bares his emotions and never lies to himself. He was not someone who would force himself to do something he didn’t want to do. Even so, he had to balance various aspects of the group, carry Subaru’s weight on his shoulders as well, and I think he became overwhelmed. Nishikido’s comments were very simple. I had the impression that he was the kind of person who couldn’t use strange, made-up words, so I thought this is the kind of comment he would make.  I know your fans must be feeling very sad.

Shige later said:  A few years ago, Maruyama-kun called me up to have a drink with Nishikido-kun and the three of us. It was half a surprise, but it was like, let’s meet for the first time since we got separated. I was in a nervous situation, but as the three of us talked, he said (to me), ‘Just do your best. I’ve seen how hard you’ve been working since I left (Shige had just released his first novel), but I won’t forgive you if you don’t work even harder". I’ve been inspired by those words for a long time. It’s not about 'I want to be recognized by this person’, but I’ve been thinking 'If that’s the case, I’ll work even harder’, and that’s how I’ve been running until today. I know it’s presumptuous for me to say this at this time, but I want to return those words to you, Nishikido-kun. Work hard, work hard, work harder than ever, and I think that’s what Nishikido-kun can do for Kanjani Eight and the fans from now on.
