He turned his head fast at her voice, jumping a little, clearly on edge from what he’d just seen. Hanna was quick to offer comfort though, something that Jesse was all too happy to return, hands tightening around hers, shuffling subconsciously closer. He didn’t think once about what he was doing, just that it felt right.

Meeting her eyes, he nodded fast as if giving her silent reassurance, fingers trembling. He was more than glad Hanna had found him, and that she shared his concern for Annie. As much as he cared for the brunette, Jesse wasn’t sure how much help he would have been on his own in finding her. “Yeah,” he started shakily, glancing around them. “Yeah, we should, we will. I don’t want her to be alone. It’s - it’s the worst.”

Noticing the way Jesse’s hands still moved under hers, shaking, her own thumb subconsciously brushed over his skin. “I know.” They’d all been through it, there was no use in explaining that she'd felt exactly as Annie did now.

Despite her agreement, and the fact she genuinely did want to find Annie, Hanna made no motions to move. Because she was so close to Jesse, like this, and it felt - safe. Comforting. She needed a moment before she pulled herself away from that.

Jesse couldn’t adequately describe what he’d just seen on the screen in the main building. All he understood was that the two minutes he’d spent watching had been two minutes too many. He also knew how he was feeling was nothing compared to how she must be feeling. “Hey, has um… has anyone seen Annie?” Jesse spoke up over the distressed chatter, fiddling with his sweatshirt’s sleeves.

As selfish as it may seem, Hanna had refused to watch the broadcast. After her previous connections with the Capitol, and the love she had for Finnick, she couldn’t put herself through that, knowing what it would cause. She needed comfort, to feel safe, if that were even possible. Her mother would try to get her to talk, and she didn’t want that right now. Instead, she wanted, or perhaps needed ---

“Jesse?” Noticing his own distress, which mirrored what she felt on the inside, she sat beside him and took his hands in her own. Hanna wasn’t sure why she’d been drawn to him, but something about Jesse made her feel calmer. Like she could handle this. “Not in a while. We should go look for her, right? Make sure she’s not alone.”
