Classification and Basic Structure of Artificial Turf
Everyone is no stranger to artificial turf, and more and more football fields are choosing to use artificial turf. Artificial turf is gradually integrated into our lives, but we don’t know much about artificial turf. Let's take a look at how artificial turf is classified and what its basic structure looks like.
Classification of artificial turf
1. Artificial turf without sandIn the United States, most artificial turf uses nylon as the raw material of artificial grass fiber. There are two types of artificial turf that are not filled with sand: water seepage and impermeability. The characteristic of this kind of lawn is that its appearance is very similar to natural lawn, and some have a layer of shock-absorbing foam cushion. The shock-absorbing layer has a variety of different densities and thicknesses.
Because the process of laying non-sand-filled artificial turf is more complicated, the laying of shock-absorbing foam cushion layer generally needs to be completed by foreign experts,so it is not commonly used in China. A layer of smooth asphalt should be laid under the shock-absorbing foam, and gravel, sand and pebbles should be laid under the asphalt, and its drainage structure is also critical. This kind of artificial turf needs to use special artificial turf machinery in the process of installation, so as to meet the requirements of flatness and uniformity of the site.
2.Filled artificial turfInfill particle lawn is a relatively common artificial lawn in China. It has the international advanced level, has good sports performance and practicality, and is deeply loved by domestic users. Most of its materials are polymers using two materials: polyethylene or polypropylene. The fibers of this lawn are longer than those of unfilled lawns, and the surface is filled with 2-3 mm quartz sand or rubber particles.
Its sports characteristics are close to those of natural lawns, and it can be used all year round and all day long. Under normal circumstances, this type of lawn can achieve good results 6-8 months after laying it. This type of lawn is suitable for laying outdoors, and the general life span is 5-8 years. If it is in long-term dry weather, sprinkling a little water on the lawn can play a protective role, and at the same time, it can protect athletes from injuries.
3.Mixed artificial turfMixed lawn, as the name suggests, it is a mixture of natural lawn and artificial lawn. This kind of lawn is natural, and the roots of the grass are reinforced with plastic, allowing the grass to grow on the bottom of the net made of plastic. This kind of lawn combines the environmental friendliness of natural lawns with the durability of artificial lawns.
Structure
1. Basic levelIt is to pave a certain thickness of pebbles on the foundation after pressing the plain bed soil, and then pave asphalt or concrete, the purpose is to make it have the characteristics of firmness, non-deformation, high pressure, smooth surface and imperviousness. A good base layer also increases the service life and duration of the lawn in the later stages.
2. Buffer layerUse glue to stick elastic rubber or porous plastic on the base layer, which plays the role of linking up and down. It has a good cushioning function for exercise pressure. It can effectively protect the body protection of athletes in fierce competitions, especially in football, baseball, and rugby games where there are many physical contact and intense sports.
3. Sod layerIt is a grass carpet woven or compressed by chemical fibers and tightly connected with the buffer layer on it to form a surface that resembles a natural lawn. A turf layer with the athletic performance of a natural lawn.
