I first got introduced to aviairy via Twitter, like most artists I find. The first song I listened to, Welcome_ , was a cooling flash back to old school hip-hop.

Naturally I was intrigued. This style of music seems almost extinct compared to the onslaught of "I pull up" or "I get money" artists we've come accustomed to. Those artists aren't bad, but it's almost becoming a point where influencing and trying to sound the same are becoming blended.

Aviairy brings an auditory spearmint flavor in your ear. His style is a refreshing glass of water in the drone of artists trying to sound the same. Aviary, being so easy to listen and understand, belongs in your arsenal

How did you find yourself making music?

I was inspired by the graduation album also the Man on the Moon album. Just really wanted to speak what I felt and not care if I’m understood.

Was it hard to find your style at first or did it come natural?

I had a completely different style at first but it became more natural as time past and I built some experience recording. It was more difficult to experiment. Once I get lost in the sound, you'll never know what I’ll come up with haha

Where did you first perform and how did you get the confidence to first step foot on the stage?

My first performance was back in 2013 at the iguana, and I was pretty nervous, but I smoked like 3 blunts, took a shot and was ready to do it haha

Does Virginia have a music scene?

I would like to think so. Not everyone would agree.

Who inspired you to become an artist?

Kid Cudi

What made you change your name from Neff the Skywalker to Nephew Skywalker?

Just better to brand and I’m also just feels like it's like a transition to different type of sound I'm going for now

What type of sound are you transitioning to?

I would just say I passed a really dark point in my life where I’m tired of being branded as the "dark" rapper or just a rapper in general. Like I feel like I do more the average rapper these days

What was the process in making Too Late To Grieve?

I wanted to capture my darkest thoughts and it was really just a personal album about what I was going through at the moment.

Who is your favorite person to work with?

So far Mikey Carey, and Voss Rollins. I would love to work with more artist, but I don't think the VA scene really fucks with me yet.

I'm sure that'll change soon.

I’m hoping so, but until then I'm just doing me and exploring new horizons.

Have you ever wanted to branch out into other forms of creativity?

I mean I do every now and then, but for right now the focus is music.

Did anyone doubt you when you first started rapping?

Lol hell yeah almost everybody. But I still love them all.

What do you do in your off time?

I go to school and i work but what I’m not there I’m always in the studio or doing things in a creative nature and traveling.

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately.

Where was the last place you traveled to?

Atlanta, then Illinois and lately I’ve been back and forth to New York.

What's one thing you hate about social media?

How generalized everything is and the fact that social media is killing personalities on a daily. Like majority people I meet from the internet are weird and antisocial.

Do you hate meeting antisocial people?

Not exactly, I just hate fuck niggas, unreal people, and I’m really big on reading the energy in the room.

Do the people in your area support you?

Yeah some do, and I support them as well

What's your creative process and how much time do you spend on creating a song or a full project?

My creative process, I just try to vibe out on the beat. I usually try to finish a song in a night but lately I’ve been just taking time to really build on it.

Project wise I try to have a date set within 3 months to have the songs recorded, but nothing goes as planned.

Are you planning anything for the rest of this year?

Yeah I’m planning 3 projects this year. And doing more shows in the future. Hopefully working with more artists.

What's one thing you'd like to say to your fans?

I really appreciate everyone that’s watching me evolve as an artist and a man. I can be nothing but grateful for anyone behind my movement. I just hope the love continues as I grow.

What is music to you?

Music to me is a form of self expression. I use music to vent my feelings. In my music, you'll either my love for games, or my hatred for locals. Either way I'm real passionate about my expression. I honestly didn't wanna rap anymore after I dropped What's Next but then I noticed there's a few people who wanted more. So why not deliver it?

What was the process in making Flexology?

Honestly Flexology was crazy because this is the project where I discovered my sound. I wanted to use Flexology as a platform to show people I can make very different types of music. It started with my video game vibes and ended with my Karambit into your neck vibes haha! The only process I'd say was transitioning into my new style and still being able to deliver my old one.

Who inspires you to flex everyday?

Haha! Man I don't even like flexing! You know how bad I wanted to change my name? Like I do the opposite of Flex, I don't even leave my damn house unless I'm working or recording music! But, I guess who influenced the whole "Flex" thing in my name was Hodgy Beats of ODD FUTURE. He said on a track with Domo something like "Flex so much I should be a Flexesaurus" I was sold instantly. I needed to be a Flexesaurus (Mind I was 16) haha!

What would you like to change your name to?

Honestly I wouldn't change my name. The only time I don't like hearing my name is when some local (who knows my full name address and everything about me) comes up and is like "YO WasSUp FlEX BrOo Flex MeSSiAh DuDe Yeah Flexshomaru Yeah bro" like shut the fuck up you know my actual name. People like that influence me to make the angry music I make because I can't stand people who think so highly of themselves when they aren't shit.

Can someone with no money or fans inspire someone who does?

Yeah because if you look at the mainstream you can tell that they are slowly picking and choosing some trendy topics from the underground. One topic that many of the people reading this can relate to is anime.

Describe your experience with Logged_In.

Man Logged_In is just a dream being fulfilled. My brother Cody, owner of Logged_In, had this vision. And each person in Logged_In plays a role. Every person serves a purpose. From Tailors to bloggers, it's a real team based operation. The whole experience has been a learning one. I would have never imagined I'd be doing what we're doing. Growing up, I was at every underground show in the Bay basically. So now being part of the group that is throwing things, it's been great being able to give back to the community that made me who I am now. Logged_In really gave me the confidence to approach things how I wanted too, so without it I probably wouldn't be who I am now. I'm real thankful.

Cody, the owner is an amazing artist too.

What do you do in your off time?

I spend my days playing games or skateboarding. But I haven't been skating much recently, I've been a little busy with my personal life.

Who is your favorite person to work with?

For artist, I can't say because I haven't work with someone twice other than my brother Iminoaru. But Performing with Killstation is just such a great experience. Me and that guy go way back. So being friends outside this music shit, I can really vibe with him and we can feed off each other's energy naturally. So kill hands down for performing. My favorite producer to work with is Purple Cloud. Don't get my wrong all the other producers I fuck with are amazing, but Cloud really asks me about how I want the beat and asks me for samples to flip and customs/exclusives.

When will you design merchandise?

I’m in the process. I might release 2 shirts. Thing is, I don't expect anyone to buy anything. Either I’m undermining myself or I’m being realistic haha. So if I release something, it's gonna be rare. Very limited copies. So whoever buys them are real legends. So I can tell who's fucking with me on that level you know?

You're going to sell out of shirts. Don't doubt yourself.

What's one thing you hate about making music?

Hugo is a rapper and producer from Pennsylvania. He uses calming melodies and his tone of voice to portray his feelings in a song. His tracks are easy to listen to and any fan of hip hop should enjoy.

How old are you?

How do you choose artists to collaborate with?

Do you contact them or do they hit you up?

I normally just collab with my friends but [when] I want to work with some producers, I have to reach out too.

What are some artists you'd like to work with?

Purpdogg, Dexter, Icytwat, Trey Skies, Cyrax and RXLAND. Madbliss too. Kai Hall too. There's a lot but those are the ones I want to work with the most.

What goes through your head when you write a song?

Depends... I write off emotion.

How’d you get into producing?

My brother used to produce and one day I was bored, downloaded fruity loops and been making beats ever since. I love it.

What would you do if you decided not to produce or rap?

To be honest I don’t know. My life was real dark before I found music.

How so?

Rather not get into detail but I’m [going to] just say drugs and family issues. We all straight now though.

What does rap mean to you?

Alot man. I've always loved rap and all types of different music. Rap is just the way I know how to musically express myself. If I could sing or play guitar I would.

What’s your recording process like?

Nothing much I just drink a lot of water and get into my emotions.

Do you plan on making it big as an artist?

Shit, I just been having fun and making music as of now but yeah fasho.

Is there an artist or writer you look up to?

Kanye West fasho.

How has he influenced you?

He lives how we wants, makes what he wants and says what he wants and does it all well.

Is that your goal?

Yes and making sure my Fam and team straight.

How did you meet Xodus?

I met Xodus through Twitter. I used to send him links to my music and one day, I asked him for artwork and he made it for my song drifting. He liked the song and we just been cool ever since. That's my bro for real. Shoutout to Xodus,

Xodus Medici Interview

Xodus Medici is a promising rapper that uses melancholy lyrics to describe his life at home and the daily troubles he goes through. He really has potential to be a great artist. He’s still trying to find his sound but when he does, he’ll make nonstop hits.

Where are you from?

I’m from uptown New York. Probably the worst part of it.

Would you say you have to keep your guard up in uptown? New York has always been a place filled with rough streets.

Yeah kinda sorta, you just can’t be no dummy or easy target. Just have street smarts and know how to look out for yourself.

I feel you on that.

So what’s the story of Xodus Medici?

Where did the name come from and what got you into music?

Alright. So I was bound to get into music because my parents was in that whole scene back in the day and I always been around it. My dad was a DJ for Heavy D and Mary J Blige’s tour and was in a group that made a minor hit in the new jack swing movement back in the day. So with rapping, I’ve always been into it and it makes me feel good about myself because I usually suck at everything. But doing that makes me feel better.

“Xodus” came from the Book of Exodus. It explains how the Israelites left slavery through the strength of Yahweh and the struggle of wilderness to get to the promise land. I feel like I’m leaving slavery when it pertains to today’s society but I’m still struggling. In the end, I know all of the hard work and journey will lead me to prosper.

Those are honorable accomplishments from your family.

And that’s a great story about your name.

And I took the “E” out because one of my main inspirations is Malcolm X so I wanted to keep the “X.” And thanks man.

The first track I heard from you was Coldest Winter and it’s one of my favorites.

What’s the story behind that song?

Well I was going through some shit most of the winter and I was depressed as shit, so I made that song to just vent and whatnot. Plus, I just dropped it as a redemption from my last song, which was a total disaster.

And I’m assuming your first song isn’t on the internet, correct?

Nah, not at all. I never want it to be heard again!

So The Beginning with you and Hugo was very good.

How long have you known Hugo.

You seem to be good friends.

Thanks, I appreciate it and I’ve known Hugo for a few months now. He’s the bro.

Is there anything you wish you could change about your music or do you like what you’re doing now?

Actually happy you asked, I hated the music I dropped before. I want to change it up because I feel like that shit is fake and now I feel like my lyrics are better and more raw than before. Like my last songs. I feel like that wasn’t real before The Beginning. I felt like I didn’t put my all into it like I should have.

Who are your favorite rappers and are there any artists that inspire you?

Fave rappers: Hugo, most of the rappers in Florida (Smart Stunnas), Denzel Curry, Rocky, a lot of rappers. I usually get inspiration from random things rather than rappers, like the shit I watch, read, been through, anything.

So New York is a fashionable place.

Do you keep with trends or wear whatever you like?

I just wear what I like to be honest. Some of the fashion shit is cool. I’m going to come clean and say if I had more [money] in my pockets I would dress better than I do now because I don’t have it like that personally. Not that my family is poor or anything. I just don’t have my OWN money like that.

Times can be tough.

So when will people see Xodus on stage or in a music video?

I’m not sure. I’m going through a serious beat drought right now. I need some real heat in my email. More shit is coming fasho though. I might do comedy sketches or whatever. I like doing my own retarded shibt(music videos, all that)

Finding a beat that fits your style is always hard.

Who do you want to work with in the future?

More Hugo collabs, Kickback Kyre, Kai Hall, Braxton Knight, EndyEnds, possibly a few others. I have to see. I don’t like working with a lot of people.

OmenXIII Interview

OmenXIII is a fairly new, dark rapper. His newest tape, End features smooth, consistent vocals. He switches his vocals throughout the tape, from a low tone to an almost rock type of style while still being auditorily pleasing is very impressive. Omen has brought the creativity of many popular producers, such as, Nedarb Nagrom, Greaf, Curtis Heron, Flame Alkahest, and Drew The Architect. His unique vocals and the arsenal of talented underground producers make this 20 song tape worth the listen.

How'd you come up with the name "OmenXIII?”

There are both good omens and bad omens, we all hold duality within reality, that is how I express mine. 13 combines the 12 and the 1 seamlessly, 13 is also 4. I like roman numerals, so I picked XIII

What influenced you to make End?

The music within END, or the concept of END?

Both.

All of the music that I make is influenced by a number of different things, I mostly make music just to keep my mind clear. hopefully people that find my music can find some similar clarity if they need it. The concept of the project END basically means, with the end of one thing there is the beginning of another, but there is something in between.

What are you starting next?

I just started a project today, the title is tentative, it's going to have a few nostalgic samples for me personally. I am currently debating on whether or not I want to solely produce this project or continue to collaborate with other producers. This project will probably be a little smaller than the last. Also, more music videos.

How do you feel before you record?

Relaxed. I record by myself in my room, usually sitting down. Unless I'm screaming of course.

What does music mean to you?

Music is expression of ideas, and representation of ideals. My music means a lot to me personally, just as my music has a story behind it so does Everybody else’s. Everybody's music means something to somebody.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

I don't know, I really don't think about that often. Honestly it was already a great experience working with Rozz. I'm going to stick to working with the people that I have been unless other opportunities find me, I really don't have much interest in searching for them.

What do you do when you're not recording or writing music?

I'm usually at work, if I'm not working in my spare time I like to play video games. I'm playing MTG Online right now, actually.

What would you do if you decided not to make music?

I will always make music, whether or not I make it anywhere. and I will always release my music for free.

Who do you look up to?

I look up to everybody around me in one way or another, there's always something you can learn from someone else, always. Musically, I look up to everybody in Sesh, whether or not I have worked with them, I respect their work ethic, open-mindedness, and most of all their humbleness. I wouldn't be where I am without help from drew the architect and drip-133.

Have you met any Sesh members in person?

Zero.

Does your hometown know you make music?

My hometown doesn't know I exist, I'm okay with that.

Why are you okay with that?

Honestly, most people into the public music scene wouldn't like my style of music too much I don't think, so [I] don't really bother. For now I'll keep expanding on the internet. It's interesting to me. I don't really have to ask people to listen to my music on the internet and word always gets around. I honestly do not like asking people to listen to my music, personally.

How would you describe your style?

Poetry. It's not about speed, it's about rhyme-scheme, flow, and content.

What's something you're worried about?

I often worry whether or not I'm headed in a 'good' direction, though at least I'm headed in a direction. I try to worry less nowadays, worry does not accomplish anything.
