it is terrifying that bear only sought to "alter" his wish rather than cancelling it but what is even more terrifying is that he wouldn't even have called the number had nikki not inconvenienced him. if she did not act in such extreme ways bear wouldn't even have a problem. which is sooooo sooooo terrifying because he was completely fine living and being "loved" by nikki who he knew wasn't the real her. he claimed to love her, but even when she started acting like a totally different person it was water off a duck's back for him. he DIDN'T CARE whether it was the real nikki or an entirely different person.

even when she begs him to kill her, he does not feel even a shred of pity for her; he only worries "is being with me that bad".

the only reason he tries to change anything is because her behavior started to scare him FREAK him out. had she acted in a meeker way, bear would've lived with her HIS WHOLE LIFE knowing she ISN'T the real nikki NOT GIVING A FUCK about what she would've wanted. PERIOD.

the more i sit with it the more i realise that the title of the movie did not refer to nikki's obsession with bear but rather his obsession with her. because i know fs that what he felt for her definitely wasn't love.

This. Literally everything about this, is what rlly pulls me into the movie. It's deep, it was such a nightmare to know that Nikki was once a kind hearted person, having passion to pursue a dream to only be turned into an entirely new being by Bear's selfish wish, watching the way the being responds when she held no control over her own body anymore. I'm still devastated that Nikki has to even beg him to kill her, when any of this shouldn't even be happening to her in the first place. It will forever affect her life 😭

Wet bulb temperature is not the ambient temperature.

Wet bulb temperature is the lowest temperature attainable by water evaporation. I.e. the THEORETICAL lowest temperature the human body can maintain based on the ambient humidity and temperature. The source I found cites the lowest wet bulb temperature that is dangerous as 88°F (~31°C) with 95°F(35°C) as the absolute limit of human survival. As OP said you are producing more heat than you can expell at those temperatures. You have to understand that you CANNOT cool down in that kind of heat even with a fan or by standing in the shade. Fans cool us by speeding up the process of evaporation which at high enough humidities it cant do. You are entirely reliant on having a functional AC unit and having power to said AC unit, just speculating here but this is probably why you see heat related deaths jump in urban blackouts.

Not to mention high wet bulb temps also impact structures and can make certiain structures, esspecially old or code violating ones, dangerous!

Yeah I'm really glad that Europe and UK heatwaves are making more people here recognise that Climate Change Urgently Bad, and yes the thought of higher wet bulbs in the UK particularly is horrifying given we have a maritime climate with high humidity. But equal attention on heatwaves in historically heat-prone countries is important because the difference of a few degrees when your average climate is already close to human survival limits is a massive deal.

A lot of focus in the UK has been on how our infrastructure is not built to cope with high heat and that is true, but we must remember that even in countries that are historically accustomed to heat, this is not normal either. And countries historically accustomed to heat don't necessarily have the infrastructure to cope with it either - see other posts floating around about A/C causing grid demand and rolling blackouts in India during the heatwave.

Also, how much of your population has access to properly cooled indoor spaces is going to massively affect heat deaths. Which is not just affected by how historically we built our houses, but also by who had the materials and tools and space to build appropriately - ding ding imperialism and colonialism and exploitation and also, global societal problems like homelessness (where do homeless people go to cool down? who notices if a homeless person dies on the street?). You can know everything about how to survive in a heatwave but it doesn't help massively if you don't have access to the tools and resources to apply that knowledge because they're being hoarded by fascists and billionaires,.

This is what people mean when they say climate justice is linked to colonialism, capitalism, class war, and a billion other social issues. I'm not saying don't complain because the heat is bad in Europe, it is and we should shout about it, but we should also notice the differences in how we're talking about heatwaves globally, and remember that no human is built to deal with the levels of heat we are seeing globally.

(side note for people who are interested in the temperature side of this, I really like zoom.earth as a tool for getting a quick ballpark look at what's happening globally. On the temperature setting you can flip between actual, feels like and wet bulb and you get really clear visuals. You can rewind by at least a month too.)

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it

The first leg hair I saw on a woman was my own hair on my own legs. My mum is very naturally hairless and I knew like one woman who didn’t shave her armpits. When people talk about just preferring being shaved and doing it for themselves I do wonder like, how many women with body hair have you ever actually seen? In real life or not? Because I feel like there are places you could go nearly your whole life only seeing your own, and then hardly ever even seeing your own because you’re always shaving it! And it’s just like well yeah of course having no body hair just feels right to you. You have no frame of reference for hairy women outside of like jokes and insults.

For all its faults Tumblr has truly ruined all other social media for me because my friends all have Instagram and are all trying to get me on Instagram more but every time I open Instagram there are like fifteen things screaming for my attention and when I get over myself long enough to start scrolling it's like. Where is my chronological dash. Where is the following-only option. Who are these people. Why are there so many videos. Everyone is screaming at me. And then before I know it I'm thirty minutes into scrolling and I haven't seen a single thing that I actually care about. At least on Tumblr when I see stuff I don't care about I know someone I follow has found a new interest.
