Agony Of The Mountains: Final Poster Series
Research This research explores the paradoxical challenges faced by Uttarakhand, a region endowed with natural beauty, tourist allure, and economic benefits from tourism. Despite the financial gains, the state grapples with significant environmental issues, including inadequate waste disposal, water scarcity, recurring forest fires, and air pollution. This study aims to shed light on these interconnected challenges and propose sustainable solutions for a harmonious coexistence between tourism and environmental preservation.
Lack of Waste Disposal: Uttarakhand's scenic landscapes attract a substantial influx of tourists, contributing significantly to its economy. However, the surge in tourism also exacerbates the challenge of waste disposal. Inadequate infrastructure and improper waste management systems strain the delicate ecosystems, leading to pollution of rivers and degradation of natural habitats.
Water Scarcity: Despite being the origin of several major rivers, Uttarakhand grapples with water scarcity issues. The demand for water from both tourists and locals, coupled with changing climatic patterns, puts immense pressure on the region's water resources. This delicate balance jeopardizes the sustainability of both ecosystems and communities dependent on these water sources.
Forest Fires: Increasing temperatures, exacerbated by climate change, have turned Uttarakhand into a hotspot for annual forest fires. The escalating frequency and intensity of these fires pose a severe threat to biodiversity, wildlife habitats, and the overall health of the region's ecosystems. Understanding the drivers of these fires is crucial for effective prevention and mitigation strategies.
Air Pollution: The influx of vehicles associated with tourism leads to escalating air pollution levels in Uttarakhand. The emissions contribute to rising temperatures, accelerating glacier melting, and amplifying deforestation. The interconnectedness of these environmental issues creates a vicious cycle that jeopardizes the region's ecological balance.
Deforestation: The fifth point in my research addresses the pressing issue of deforestation in Uttarakhand. Despite its rich biodiversity, the region faces significant challenges due to the clearing of forests for various purposes, including agriculture and infrastructure development. This rampant deforestation threatens the habitat of numerous species and contributes to the overall degradation of the ecosystem. Exploring strategies to balance developmental needs with the preservation of forests is imperative for the future health of Uttarakhand's environment.
Conclusion:
While tourism brings economic prosperity to Uttarakhand, it simultaneously places immense pressure on its delicate ecosystems. Addressing the challenges of waste disposal, water scarcity, forest fires, and air pollution requires a holistic approach that involves community engagement, sustainable tourism practices, and governmental initiatives. This research aims to provide insights and recommendations to mitigate the environmental agony of the mountains, fostering a balance between tourism and ecological preservation in Uttarakhand.
Women Oppression is a common line on which the world thrives.
This poster was based on the concept of Political Power represented through satire. The Interaction concept was based on throwing darts on the balloons to know what's under.
This poster had polaroid images of 15 women around the world who became victims of political power. There were polaroids underneath every balloon. The poster was made in such a way that viewer becomes a help to the criminal who is asking the viewer if they can help them choose the next victim by aiming a dart on the balloon.
And here's a video of how it went!!!!!
Satirical Reflection of World's Political Landscape
In our fourth assignment, we explored political power through the lens of satire. Amidst our quest for clarity, we discussed India's political issues, struggling to pinpoint a specific context. Our instructor, Milly Mam's insight, rooted in history, highlighted the harsh reality that women and children are often the first casualties of political upheaval.
The revelation of women and children as primary targets reshaped our focus. With this topic in our minds, we read about the most recent tragic incidents that have happened around the world. The Hijab Controversy in Iran caught our attention. Women of various ages were brutally silenced. We read about Afghanistan's history of how they have treated their women. And we HAD to include Nirabhaya is our poster. We chose 15 victims from all over the world for this poster.
Fueled by purpose, we embarked on a satirical journey to expose the vulnerability of women and children in politics.Beyond being an assignment, our project evolved into a platform to amplify voices drowned out in political discourse. Leveraging satire, we sought to foster awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by women and children in the turbulent landscape of political power.
This poster is based on the importance of work life balance. The color schemes range from different colors of skin to the different yellows and oranges that give a feeling of lightness and healing to the blues and lavenders that show calmness that comes from the balance of tangible and transcendent.
The process of brainstorming and mind mapping is very important in order to understand a topic properly. A single word has thousands of meanings attached to it. It's important to know which one we are focusing on because it is the very foundation of the project.
After a presentation of this mind map, Milly Mam, our course guide gave us the feedback which gave us clarity and WE UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. We had to make a typography poster on emotional power after its brainstorming. My interest was particularly inclined towards the lack of work-life balance and so I did a typography poster on the same.
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!!!!!
WHO IS MILLY MAM?
So the Poster Design Module has finally started. And the thing I was most curious to know was who Milly Mam is!! And second thing I know is that this module is going to be the best one this semester !!!
The first assignment has been assigned i.e. to know my classmate, Shreya Chakraborty. We both discussed about our likes, dislikes, hobbies, journey from school to college.
My brain has been braining a lot since then. I have had so many ideas on what I can do in this poster, which honestly is a very new feeling. Although everybody is doing a digital poster, I have thought of doing a hand made poster.
