“I’m sure you are enjoying this mayhem Quinn.”
“Oh, it’s terrific! Ya know it’s kind of neat when people start imitatin’ ya. Makes ya feel kind of like a celebrity. Of course, you probably already know that. Maybe not so much these days, but before the bombin’...” she smiled, a thought crossing her mind. “It makes ya wonder how many kids are going to be hanging up their Wonder Girl costumes this year in favor of a more harlequin look. Definitely somethin’ to think about.”
“And you are one of them?”
“Hm, you pose an interestin’ question.” She tapped her index finger to her lips. “I gotta say yes and no. Ya see, I started dressin’ up like this long before the whole clown fad started. They’re just imitatin’ Mistah J and I. We were doin’ it before it was cool. But, if it were a club, my Puddin’ would be the dictator and I’d be his #1 fan~” Harley smiled thinking about it, seemingly getting lost in a daydream.
&&. — “COMPLETELY WEIRD,” SELINA BREATHED, LOOKING AT HARLEY with what seemed to be knowledge as she took a step back and a tilt of her head. “I wonder how that started.”
Harley smile, the genuine grin reaching her eyes. “Who knows? Maybe everyone is really into the circus aesthetic these days or somethin’? Or, maybe Kim K told everyone she hates clowns, and now people want to scare her. Or, maybe a video went viral on the internet that really seemed to speak to an easily influenced populous. Your guess is as good as mine, Kitty Cat.”
“You’re one to talk. I think it might help with everyone’s ridiculous obsession if we put the two prominent clowns in Gotham out of business.”
“Ya’d think that’d work, Little Bird, but I’m tellin’ ya right now, it ain’t gonna help. Ya know what they say: ‘Cut the head off the clown and five more heads pop up’. ” Harley smiled.

Re-establishing himself in Metropolis hadn’t actually been difficult, after all, if they were stupid enough to try and question him, he’d beat them into submission, or kill them if they weren’t worth enough alive. Seven of them hadn’t been worth enough, but that had gotten the rest of them in line. With his suit flecked in blood, The Joker considered his work started as he returned to the dingy awful apartment. It was horrifically small and domestic, but he’d learned to somewhat accept it. It would do for now.
As he stepped into the apartment, he was immediately assaulted by Harley’s voice. Raising a brow, he watched her as she ran to the other room. Leaning over the table, he looked over to her laptop when she placed it down. Smiling, he turns towards her, “It seems the first step of the plan has begun, though their acts are relatively dull, it is causing plenty of unease, just as I suspected,” he says as he leans closer to the computer to read the rest of the text quickly.
Harley felt her heart skip a little when the Joker smiled at her. My goodness how he could just make her melt with a single facial expression. She sat on top of the table next to the laptop as watched her Puddin’ as he scanned over the article. She pulled her legs up onto to the desk as well, now sitting cross-legged. “I mean, they ain’t up to the killin’ stereotype yet, but I’m sure they just need some proddin’.” She smiled, resting her elbow on her knee and her chin in the palm of her hand.
“I have to say, Mistah J, this has been the easiest recruitin’ scheme we’ve ever pulled off. I can’t believe they’re all just fallin’ in line like this.” She looked at the computer screen and then back to the Joker. “So, now that we got some real life followers, what should we do next?”
Her eyes widened by the lack of hesitation Harley Quinn had with shooting the man. Solstice was more experienced in combat that included magic, not firearms. Eyes starting to glow, she shot an energy blast at the gun which tore it into half. More comfortable with the thought that she wouldn’t be able to harm others from a longer distance. ❝ Maybe not SCARE you, but I intend to STOP you, ❞ she confessed. ❝ How can you even sleep peacefully at night? You’re TORMENTING other people. INNOCENT people. ❞
Feeling the heat from the blast so close to her hand, Harley’s eyes widened as her immediate reaction was to drop the gun she was holding with a slight squeal. Yikes! Okay, now that was pretty scary. Totally awesome, a slight bit annoying, and pretty scary. She looked at the gun on he ground. That one was disposable, but had it been any of her other ones, sun spot here would have been toast. She looked back up at the girl, her face hardened. “Very easily, actually. And, who’s ta say these people are innocent? Is that for you to decide, Sunshine?”
“Ain’t it weird? All these clowns just out wanderin’ around at night with knives and machetes and baseball bats. It’s funny how everyone’s so obsessed lately.”

Harley sat cross legged on her desk, scrolling through Reddit. With only a few small lamps and the streetlights streaming in from the dirty windows of the one bedroom apartment, Harley had to sort of squint at her bright screen. She smiled at the screen, reading the newest headlines:
“ANOTHER CLOWN SPOTTED IN LITTLE BOHEMIA, METROPOLIS, CITIZENS FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY”
It was a little wordy, but it meant one thing: the plan was working. Since she and Mistah J had debuted on the internet, clowns seemed to be popping up all around Metropolis and the rest of the country. Personally, Harley was pretty humbled by the whole thing. They said imitation was the sincerest form of flattery, and boy, she was flattered. They all shared the same goal, and though Harley wasn’t too thrilled with some of them trying to lead children away, this couldn’t have worked out much better.
The clownette, placed her laptop down on her desk and stepped down onto the dingy hardwood floor. Stepping over the cardboard boxes of her belongings, she made her way into the kitchen. She looked around at the sparsely covered walls, and thought they could use a new coat of paint, not impressed by the chipping tan paint. She opened the fridge and grabbed an energy drink off the shelf.
Before she could open it, her apartment door opened. She peaked around the corner, her face lighting up. “Puddin’!” she called, setting the can on the counter. She practically leaped back over to the Joker. “Puddin’, I have great news! Look!” She went and grabbed her computer and skipped back over to him, “Look. We got more people dressin’ up! Ain’t it excitin’?”
Kate rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “Listen Blondie, if you think me or these good people, okay maybe not you, you can’t be good, look at that hat, what the hell.” She shook her head at one of the people, back on track Kate. “…If you think you’re taking what we have, you must be futzing insane. You wanna make wallets disappear, work at a store.”
Harley laughed at the girl. This one was great. “Well, they didn’t send me to Arkham for nothin’. Now, if you don’t mind,” She held the pillowcase she was holding out towards the woman, “wallet.”
he laughed, loud hearty and naturally — before he stopped entirely and every semblance of humor was dropped from his face. “no. i’m not. call me whatever you want, ain’t gonna make a difference. surprised you got time to be holdin’ people up, shouldn’tya be lickin’ joker’s boots?”
A small smile spread across her face. This one was fun. “Nah. I leave that to Bud and Lou. Though, they normally end up rippin’ his shoes ta shreds. They don’t do that often though.” She shrugged, “You’d be surprised, Billy. I gotta lotta free time. Now, if ya don’t mind, I need to collect some wallets, and if ya don’t want me to bash ya kneecaps, you’ll stay outta my way.”
“I don’t have a wallet.” Ellie reiterated, now irritated. “All you’ll find on me is a lighter and my cell phone.”
“You don’t have a wallet?” Harley looked sincerely perplexed. “Do you not carry an I.D.? What about money? What if you need to buy somethin’? Do you just keep it in ya pockets?”
“Look, clown. I have no money. I’m only nineteen, so you won’t find anything.”
Harley looked torn over the girl’s declaration. There was a chance that she could have been pulling one over on her, but-- No, that was definitely the case. Harley shrugged. “I’ll take it anyway. I’m sure I can find some use for it.”
“aha—now that’s funny.” he was more likely to sprout wings and fly than to give harley anything of his. “maybe you ought’a choose your audience a lil’ better, princess.”
She walked up a little closer to the man, her baseball bat slung over one shoulder and her gun twirling the finger on her other hand. She squinted her eyes and looked him up and down. “I’ve never been too particular. --Hey, what’s ya name? Nah, scratch that. I’m just gonna call ya Billy. You tryin’ to be a hero?”
“hey, listen, now that we’re all in metropolis, it’s getting kind of crowded. so i took the liberty of drawing us all up patrolling quadrants. you’re welcome. and you’re kind of in my quadrant. my quad, if you will. and there is no lolly-gagging, tom-foolery, or ne’er do wells allowed in my quad, buddy. also, byob and if you break it you buy it.”
“What if I byob and share with ya? Then do I have permission to roam around in your quad? Hmmm, you don’t really look old enough though, so how ‘bout some sparklin’ cider instead?” She giggled at herself. “Seems fair enough ta me.”
The Joker hums softly, patting Harley’s arm lightly, “Oh, yes, I will,” he says with a dangerous smile as he walks with her, “After all, they’re already so terrified. Soon, they’ll learn who the Joker really is.”
A big smile spread across her face when the Joker patted her arm, leaning in a bit closer to him. Ugh, he was so handsome and clever. Truly the package deal. “It’s gonna be great, Puddin’. I can just tell!”
❝ That’s what you call magic? Then you haven’t seen my trick, ❞ Kiran retorted, flying into the scene. Hands aglow, she threw a light-blast her way before landing elegantly on the ground. ❝ Flee the scene. I’ve got this, ❞ she spoke evenly to the people, eyes fixated on Harley Quinn. ❝ I hope you’re missing your lover, because the two of you are going to be reunited very soon. ❞
Harley was quick to dodge the light blast, before realizing the people were all rushing to the exit. “Nope! None of ya are going anywhere!” Harley was quick to point the gun she had in her hand, shooting a man in the leg. She looked back at Solstice, a look of determination on her face. “You think you can scare me, doll face? HA! You ain’t the only person in town with powers.” She lifted her baseball bat so that it sat on her shoulder.
