That’s because there is more, and given the situation with the town… I may not be alive much longer to tell you the truth. The vampire that killed your mother was a resident of the town for a time– he was not just passing through. No one really knew him or anything about him except that he was extremely old and dangerous. We covered it up so no one would chase after him when he left and get killed. I am sorry, Harley, I should have told you sooner.

Harley nodded at his words, there was nothing for her to do or say. She knew it, she’d always known, and a time ago she would have reacted, would have tried to stab Tiberius with whatever was close by. Instead, all Harley felt about the information was numb and a growing sense of danger. Reaching into her pocket she placed a golden choker, centred with a large blood ruby, on the table, “I found this inside my old caravan.” The one she used from time to time, but rarely since Mac came into the picture. “I don’t really have anyone in my life who can afford this kind of thing.” She sniffed as she looked at the fancy dog collar, her stomach rolling. “I just needed to confirm that this is what I think it is.”

I did. I know all of the faces, past and present that come to this town– your mother’s especially. There are a lot of people who die here, but her death still haunts me to this day.

Because she was pregnant?

No one would tell me anything about it, and since then all of this other stuff has come out – about her and about me. She feels so alive even though she’s dead; I know all of these things about her but not the one that matters – and I know there’s more.
