The Weekend of June 22-24, 2012
Friday I spent a long time doing class work and practicing and basically just catching up from the past week! Friday night, I went with a few friends from U of A to meet a Parisian who had studied at the U of A a few years ago. We went to a really cool little area behind the Pantheon again and had a great time! But after the week, I was definitely ready to crash!
Saturday I took it pretty easy and got even more caught up on class work and got a lot of practicing in again. I also took a nice nap and had a very easy, relaxing day :) ahh...
Sunday. Sunday was a great day! This morning I ended up going to what was to become my favorite coffee spot in Paris for the first time...Espressamente Illy. It is the Illy (amazing espresso from Italy) flagship store in Paris and is absolutely wonderful! They have very creative coffees and the atmosphere is great. There is a large chandelier in the middle of the cafe made out of all Illy espresso cups (absolutely adorbs..!! cute cups galore) and they have free wifi! There is also an interesting mix of people there. There are several tourists but many business travelers, students, and Parisians as well! It is located quite near the Opera area but only a short walk from the Madeleine --> Map. After grabbing a cappuccino and a tiramisu (the absolute best tiramisu I've ever had..including the fact that you get to pour your own espresso over the dessert...) I headed home to practice for a while. After practicing, I headed to my favorite museum in Paris, the Musée de L'Orangerie. This houses Monet's water lilly paintings, Nymphéas, on the full walls (love love love) and mostly impressionistic art. The other artists there which were my favorite included Renoir, Monet (his other paintings), Cezanne, Modigliani, Matisse, and Derain. They were also preparing an exhibit on Debussy to be opened soon on his art and music. I absolutely loved the museum. All of the paintings are so beautiful!! I will definitely go back every time I am in Paris. After the L'Orangerie, I headed back home to finish the night with some case-studys!
Happy weekend!
