Harri never thought, at the tender age of nineteen, that he would be fighting his mother for custody of his sister. Yet here he was a month later, deep in the middle of a custody battle. It had been a month of him staying away, letting his mother dig herself in a deeper hole as his lawyer worked to get everything together. It was hard for him, having to stay away from Hailey to lessen the rage their mother would lay into her with; sure he still showed up at her school to see her quickly but it wasn’t the same. He just knew that all this was worth it, to get her away from the mental torture he went through as a kid. 

He had just walked through the door after shopping for a few more things for Hailey’s room. He had it in his head that if they got her room ready it would speed up the process and give them a positive outlook on the ending. Hands ladened with bags he heard his phone ring, a sigh escaping him as he dropped a few bags. Sticking his hand in his pocket he took his phone out, eyes rolling as his mother's name popped up on the screen. Sending the call to voicemail he blocked it out for a few minutes, grabbing the bags again and making his way into the guest-turned-hailey’s room to deposit them. Dropping them at the closet he sat on the bed, digging his phone out again and resisting the urge to roll his eyes as the voicemail notification popped up. Hitting play, he put the phone on speaker before placing it next to him, eyes widening as the words flew out his mother's mouth. 

Most of the words blurred together, but it was enough for him to pause it, start recording and play it again. Threatening words, degrading names flew out of the speaker phone and into his ears, words of hate and threats. Most of it wasn’t new, words he had heard a bunch of times. But something stood out to him; something that instantly made Harri know it wouldn’t be long till Hailey was home with him. 

“I’m going to kill you.”
