Royal Blood - Out of the black

Personally one of my favourite music videos, the mix between the live action and animated scenes are done so well. I like how it doesn't take itself seriously like most royal blood music videos.

Project : Disrupt

Week : 11th Dec - 15th Dec

As I finished my painting of my guitar smashing still, I wanted to create a colourful background for it to contrast the dark tones in the figure.

I decided to print off some of the covers of my favourite albums. I believe the songs and bands from these albums that I chose reflect the impulsive, hectic action of destroying a guitar.

With the print-outs, I made a collage to form the background for my painting. I stuck the painting itself onto the collage with masking tape at the back, to create a relief.

Starting to get really into Primus and Les Claypool, and I think the bass and whimsy has made me a little insane in the head.

If you’re a fan of Metallica I urge you to listen to their writing in progress and riff tapes.

Not only is it really interesting to see how the songs slowly come together, but when they haven’t figured out the lyrics yet, James just yells out gibberish instead and it’s so funny to me.

One of my favourite example of this is the “Mwaa ann an a nana, na na na.” in ‘The Struggle Within’.
