America didn't gain independence from the british, so the french didn't get inspired to do a revolution against the monarchy, napoleon doesn't start a war so the HRE doesn't die and that's why HRE is looking like a 14 year old???

Also, the pain I felt when Alfred saw Arthur calling Jett 'Poppet', it was indescribable, horrible, felt like you ripped my heart out of my ribcage.

Holddd your horses bucko!! That last chapter is set very deliberately in 1787! We aren't even there yet! I'll try not to spoil the fic but I'll j say this much on some real world history: french rev really kicked off in 1789 and napoleon was at the turn of the century. irl american rev war mainly influenced french rev in two ways: proof of ideology and increasing french debt. To say the american rev was the sole or even biggest defining influence is greatly inflating our importance imo, there were a shit ton of factors (that to this day plenty of people disagree on how important each one was). just on its own, France had a lot of internal structural issues and that monarchy was being dealt with one way or another, the american war j sped up that process by taking their debt from like 2bil livres to 3bil and showing some proof of the revolutionary type ideas, which were already floating around (and good chunk originated from French philosophers). Thats all i'll say on that before i get carried away. i just finished writing up to 1794 so you'll see how ive decided to tackle it soon enough.

Also, the reason i have HRE looking like a 14 yo is mostly bc of how i conceptualize how nations age. Like that it corresponds w independence and ability to stand as a coherent/unified state (why i have most colony generation nations start to break free around their mid teens and then fully grow up/into their independence). HRE is tricky bc he's more like, a very loose coalition of states than a real nation himself. around this time HRE consists of, for example, both Prussia and Austria. He's the kid who never quite grows up not bc hes too young (~1k years atp) but bc he's stagnant and weak as a collective power and people identify more with their local nations than this vague over arching one. (Plus i just really like the gilbert angst of having a lil bro who never grows up / i almosttt buy into the theory of him like being reborn as germany upon reunification since its a similar territory and i dont really see ludwig starting out as a toddler who grows up hyperfast in the 1800s, since his nation kinda hits the ground running sooo its convenient that in canon they look alike?)

(Disclaimer: I think in general when it comes to this fic, i am a lot more hesitant to mess w european history in a big way bc it feels a lot more convoluted/less intuitive to me than american history so a lot of my Massive alt timeline changes will take place w the colonies im familiar with (unless i do a shit ton of research). a lot of the choices on these things are also j motivated not necessarily by like what is the most historically accurate bc its kinda impossible to say for sure what wouldve happened (tho i do try my best to back it up w fact!) but what i need to support the most compelling/fun thing to write - like would england have sold cuba to portugal? hell no but i needed something to make alfred start to lose faith in his dad)

I was really bored at work my mind wandered to Hetalia, your fic Meeting America, and Nyotalia and thought about this dumb idea like

small children, boys and girls, are basically indistinguishable before puberty (Ex. Hungary and Italy)

and in Hetalia most nations are male so they assume America is a man

add in nation sense to their internal biases

they get close to Nyo!America but keep missing/passing over her bc they think they should be looking for a guy

i actually read a fic similar(ish) to this premise not too long ago! Missing Me by EmeraldSage - uk bros kept looking for a runaway alfred, but he was crossdressing so they kept passing over him! it was a lot of fun to read so i imagine something similar would be pretty fun to write too like someone scouring a crowd 'where the hell is he i can feel him right under my nose' and then amelia j pops up like 'are you looking for someone?' if she knew they were looking for boy america (and she knew that she was america), she'd have suchhh fun seeing how far she could push it before they got a clue
