• A beta release of a brand new ANDROID app is now available. •...

Register for Hatchet and begin syncing your Tomahawk playlists and data from Tomahawk's desktop app to the new Android app (in beta).  The Tomahawk Android app can also "scrobble" playback data from virtually every other Android music app to your Hatchet profile... which you can't yet see, but we're working hard on getting it to the point where we can start letting more of you in to see what it's all about.

A lot of fans of Tomahawk have been asking, "what are you guys working on?!" for quite a while.  We know it seems like we've been relaxing a bit since our last Tomahawk release, but we can assure you we have most certainly been hard at work - and we can finally answer that question, with "this".

No, not this blog (smartass!), but what this is the blog for.

Hatchet is something we always knew we would make - even when we started on Tomahawk over 3.5 years ago.  We have always believed in the value of a truly open & independent music player... open-source, multi-source, private, free.  The freedom to just have your app talking directly to the music that exists across the web, your computers and more. No required middlemen to worry about, no dependencies between you and the music you love.  And while there is still much more we (and the rest of the open-source community that contributes to it) plan on doing with Tomahawk we felt like it was time to deliver on the other half of the equation we've been solving for these past few years.

Hatchet is designed to be an interoperable music & fan community - full of your friends (regardless of what music services they use), your musical influencers (regardless of whether they are your friends), and set of rich and expansive data around your favorite music and artists.  A place that adds value to Tomahawk users, and creates value for those that don't use Tomahawk. A place where users can share music, tastes and thoughts.  A place where users can easily have their taste data and playlists resolved against one or more music services - and be portable across them.  A place where a subscriber of one music service can benefit from the tastes of their musical influencers even though they may use a different set of music services.  A place where you can just as easily find exactly what you are looking for as well as discover things you never knew existed.  A place that can sync and display all of your Tomahawk data from your desktop app, not only to itself but also to the beta of our Tomahawk for Android app (oh yeah... surprise!).

So, today we are excited to give the first batch of our friends and loved ones a peek behind the curtain to both Hatchet and Tomahawk for Android. We look forward to the brutally honest feedback you will provide (check out the FAQ and let the feedback fly via the "?" widget once on the site). We know you will think "I wish Hatchet had X" or "I wish it would enable Y" or "the navigation across Z pages doesn't feel quite right".  We have a long list of those as well... and we promise that many of those will be coming fast and furious over the coming weeks.  This, in the parlance of "the biz" is our MVP (with a little more emphasis on the "viable" over the "minimum").
