//What’s up guys, it’s Locke, bringing back this slugger-delinquent for her 50,653,000th blog reboot. Blog itself is still not 100% up and running but I’ve been pretty un-subtle about my return and I’m itching to do…things. Criminal things.

For anybody who doesn’t know her, or needs a refresher, Clarissa is an Elite Agent for Team Rocket with a true blue rabble rouser spirit. She’s also a rare sub-type of Psychic user called a “Dynamo”, who can produce a strong electrical current from within her body. Things tend to go haywire around her. I also play her from her cranky older verse a lot, where she’s bumming around with Team Skull after Rocket fucked up her life.

Info pages are not totally there yet but I’ve reblogged a LOT of her old content to the new blog so you guys can get a flavour of what to expect from her. She’s been around since 2016 so she’s had a lot of development and opportunities for her backstory to grow even extra bizarre, so I hope you’ll look forward to us both being back in “full swing”!

Personal update!

My partner and I bought a house!

It’s been stressful, emotionally fraught stuff because guess whose job fell through due to COVID shutting down their store? This guy!

Fortunately things worked out for us anyway and we’re just waiting on all the legal loose ends to be tied up before we can get our grabbers on the keys.

Meanwhile, I’ve been sorely missing writing Clarissa these past couple of weeks. Needless to say, jobhunting and moving mean I won’t be back for a while still, but at least I can definitely say I will be back.

...Probably with a fresh blog and character background tweaks, y’all know my pattern by now.

I hope that every single one of you is safe and well. I know I’ve been as good as dead for the past...however long. But I want you to know that I still think of you and that I’m praying for the best for everyone in these weird and unsettled times.

It’s encouraging to open the app and see that things are still more or less business as usual over here. I still don’t know if/when I’ll back to join you, but I’m glad to see everybody keeping up their usual hijinks.

Update.

Hey guys, Lo here. It’s super late on a work night so I’ll try and keep it short (edit: it wasn’t short), but I wanted to post even though I need sleep.

Thanks so much to everybody who’s been checking in lately to see that I’m still alive out here, and I’m sorry for not responding to you all personally. I promise I’ll eventually get back to you to thank you for messaging and apologise first hand for leaving you on read for 50+ Earth years. I’m glad y’all haven’t forgotten about me yet.

I’m not around right now (and don’t know when I will be) because I’m not doing so good. Which is to say, I’m actually doing alright-ish. Emphasis on the -ish. I’m still working, reading a little (Anno Dracula is a good book and you should read it if you want the Jack The Ripper story but with vampires), binge-watching the stupidest fucking youtube vloggers, and shitposting on message boards. But I’m being a recluse.

I’m still off my meds—you know...like an idiot. Because my depression likes to play this fun little game called “Look, see, you’re all better now! You don’t neeeeeeed to go back on your meds.” So I’m trying to get my ass together and get that sorted. I’m also extremely gender dysphoric to the point that I’m hurting my ribs having to bind every day and breaking down at work. So I’m trying to arrange some therapy for that, too. It’s...a lot.

Unfortunately, we also had the death of a close family friend. While it wasn’t a huge surprise, it still unexpected, unfair, and an utter gut-punch to all of us. It would be a stretch to say that I’m grieving—my thoughts are more with the family—but I feel sad and introspective and need some time to reflect.

Needless to say I’m not really feeling RP right now, and I’m experiencing some vague manner of executive dysfunction every time I so much as peek at my unread messages, but otherwise I’m getting by.

tl;dr I’m off dealing with Functional Adult Stuff like attempting to care about my mental health, fixing up minor bank dramas (house-saving adventures, oh boy oh boy), and existing while trans, all while semi-anxiously avoiding answering my messages. But I’ll be back, baby! Thanks for your love and your patience, my dumb ass appreciates it.

EXPERIENCE

HOW LONG (MONTHS/YEARS?): I’ve been role playing online siiiiiiince...2010? Maybe? So nineish years? Three of them on Tumblr.

PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: LiveJournal/Dreamwidth, Tumblr, Discord. I’ve dabbled in DND if that counts.

BEST EXPERIENCE: Playing in structured “game” settings on Dreamwidth, though I was never consistent enough with my activity for them, really. The “eh, whenever” pace of play on Tumblr suits me better, but I miss the experience of playing in an evolving world with a mod-directed plot.

WRITING  PREFERENCES

FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT:  I like action? Actually I like a lot of different stuff, but I like my threads to have a purpose I guess. Fluff’s all well and good but there should be some kind of objective in there, even if that’s just like one character learning something new about the other. PLOTS OR MEMES:  Both, both is good. Plotting (even just very roughly hashing out a scenario) helps exponentially with a character like Clarissa though, since of course she’s...not the most readily amicable. She’s more likely to try and rob you than she is to try and make friends. But I also enjoy the spontaneity and sometimes pleasingly unexpected dynamics that pop out of memes or dash-chat.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES:  I...I have no sense of brevity. It’s a curse, please forgive me. Nobody needs to match my length, it’s all just in-character navel gazing half the time anyway. ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): No, thank fuck. But part of my reasoning for Clarissa’s older, slightly more morose post-Rocket/Skull verse is that yo, I’m depressed. Sometimes I just can’t muster mainverse Clarissa’s obnoxiously genki energy. Skullverse Clarissa isn’t like me so much as her emotional baseline trends closer to mine, so I find her easier to write for because we’re both sad lads.

MUNDAY OPINIONS (ACCEPTING)

(1) Is there anything that currently worries you about the rpc?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything. I’ve been an on-again-off-again regular in this particular RP scene for…three years? As far as I can tell, things are business as usual. All’s clear on the Western front.

I guess if there’s just one thing I’m worried about, it’s that when the inevitable flood of SWSH hype blogs crop up around November-time, we won’t gain any fresh faces who stick around once the new main-series game buzz wears off. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but the Pokemon RPC on Tumblr tends to be on the steady-but-quieter side and new releases are pretty much the only time we get a reliable boost in activity.

(2) Do you believe in ‘elitism’ from rp blogs?

“Elitism” something of a buzzword that gets thrown around often but means different things to different people, so I don’t know if I believe in elitism so much as I believe in generally being an asshole. In this silly free-form writing hobby that most of us cram into our days on the side of work or school, I don’t believe that you need a good reason as to why you won’t write with somebody you don’t think would be fun to write with. And if somebody isn’t writing with you, maybe they’re not elitist or cliquey, maybe they just…don’t want to write with you. It’s not always that deep, Holmes.

But it’s worth remembering that at the end of the day we’re all just big, beautiful nerds with Tumblr accounts. RP is fun and it’s super rad to take pride in your blog’s presentation if that’s what sparks joy for you, but if you go and gush about your container theme and your follow count over the water cooler at work, then unless you have very cool coworkers you’re just going to leave everybody confused and maybe a little bored. What I’m saying is be humble and be kind to your fellow RPers, because your blog can be your pride and joy but to a majority of the outside world we’re still total losers.

(3) What is your opinion on call out culture or general discourse within certain rp comms?

I very much dislike call out culture. When I first joined the Pokemon RPC on Tumblr…maybe this is just confirmation bias talking, but I remember public call outs being a much more frequent occurrence than they are nowadays? I haven’t seen a good call out in maybe half a year, maybe longer, unless there’s something I missed. Maybe it’s naive, but I like to think that maybe we’ve mellowed out as a community.

Call outs, in my opinion, should be saved for only the most extreme cases. Forget wishy-washy accusations of “toxic behaviour” (read: I fell out with this person so here’s every slightly assholish thing they ever did, blown up to make them look like a moustache-twirling cartoon villain), call outs should be reserved for the people who pose an active danger to others in the community. Players being sexually inappropriate towards minors, stalking, being a literal N.azi, suicide baiting? Let people know. Call outs at their best are like a public alert system, not a trial by public opinion for somebody you could have just as easily dealt with just by cutting ties. When personal drama goes public, all it does is wreck the atmosphere on the dash and increase the size of the problem as other people are dragged into its radius.
