i wrote a little poem for myself the other day, so yeah

skinny girls don’t eat, pretty girls don’t eat, she’s going to catch up to you, you know how this goes already,

isn’t it enthralling to be “ill”? being the small girl that doesn’t eat, people wondering if you ever do, you don’t,

you want control, of course you do, cradling protruding delicate bones, uncertain of their absence, you miss them nonetheless,

to be cold again, to be like them again, for people to yell again, call you little again, be tiny, be pretty, remember?

like a rose perhaps, they should be afraid to break your fragile petals, porcelain thorns jabbing anyone who comes near, bittersweet smiles at their grimaces, flowers thrive on water, you do too, remember?

make him worried again, food is for slobs that can’t stop, you’re not them, you are not weakness, you have control, remember?

you can’t trust them, you can’t trust you, but you can trust numbers, calculations, daily weigh-ins, no more tears, remember?

tears are for them, the failures, the less-than,

you’ll be pretty again, you’ll be skinny again, my pretty little flower.
