The Discovery - Adriale
Adrielle frowned a little, confused by what he was saying. Her hands remained in her his as he head turned to look at the house they were standing in front of and taking it all in. The frown lessened but she still seemed slightly confused and surprised by what was there. A house was certainly not what she had expected.Â
When he said that it was a place of their own, confirming her thoughts, she turned back to him immediately, lips parting a little. It would be nice to have a place of their own, and still be close to the family. It was getting a little crowded there, as much as she enjoyed having the family around them too.
"Gale…" she murmured softly, a small smile overtaking her face. "You didn’t have to do that…" Glancing back over at the house slowly her smile widened. "It’s wonderful… perfect. And you did this without even knowing about the baby…" She drew his hands in close to her stomach for a moment before reaching out and wrapping her arms around him.
"Have I ever told you how perfect you are?"
"I know I didn't have to... I wanted to. For us." He murmured, gently placing his hands against her stomach with a smile, before wrapping this arms completely around her. "Well you deserve the best. The perfect woman deserves perfect treatment."Â
He leaned in, pressing his lips to hers in a soft kiss before nudging back and sliding one of his hands into his pocket and dangling out a key. "Would you like to see the inside?" He asked, stepping away but taking her hand back in his and leading her forward, without really needing her answer to know what it was.Â
He lead her inside once everything was unlocked, showing her around the various rooms. The main floor was arranged with the living area, laundry and kitchen, as well as one large sized room and bathroom. Nothing was furnished yet though, wanting to save that part for the two of them to do together.Â
the upstairs had another, smaller living space, small half bath and a medium sized room, as well as the master bed and bath. Almost set up as two separate houses on each level, minus the kitchen and laundry. Â
"I thought maybe the downstairs room would be good for Hayden and Xavier while they got situated and save for their own place, and then you and I would take the master. Then this..." He said, leading her into the medium sized room that was conveniently located beside the master. "This I wasn't sure what to do with... but now it will make the perfect nursery..."Â
The Discovery - Adriale
"I promise I’ll let you know." She said, slipping her hand into his and leaning into him happily as they walked. She let him lead the way, not even really noticing they were heading somewhere they didn’t usually when they went on a walk.
She planned to organise a doctors appointment as soon as possible- even though she was trying to stay positive (they both were) she wanted to get a doctors advice as soon as she could to make sure this pregnancy went as smooth as possible.
Her fingers tightened a little around his hand and she glanced up at him with a smile, “So when do I find out what this surprise is, hmm?”
They walked in silence for a while, rounding the corers of a couple blocks and just enjoying each other's company. The timing couldn't have been planned better when she asked about the surprise though.Â
Gale laughed softly and paused his walking, turning to her and grasping both of her hands. "Funny you should ask... because you're standing right in front of it." Slowly his eyes moved from her's to the house the stood in front of, prompting her to follow his gaze.Â
The house wasn't anything too fancy, just a simple little two story that would thankfully be roomy enough for their growing family, but not too much so. The paint was all fresh, dark grey exterior with white trim and black shutters, complete with a small, white covered porch that would make a nice sitting place in the warmer seasons. The inside had almost all been redone as well, being quite the fixer upper when Gale purchased it.Â
He'd put a lot of time and money into getting it ready for this moment, so when he turned to her he immediately examined her expression for any sigh that she was unhappy with it. "I thought maybe we could use a place of our own.."Â
The Discovery - Adriale
She smiled more at his words and nodded, “Yes, we will. I love you Gale Hawthorne.” She told him before beginning to eat. She had tried to make something that was tasty but would be gentle on her stomach. Eating relatively slowly she was glad to find that her stomach wasn’t doing any flip flops.
When they were both done with their food, she took the plates into the kitchen. For now she left them instead of cleaning though- she wanted to know about his surprise for her. “Cleaning can wait, I want to see what you have to show me… and I think a walk will be good too.”
She took his hand now and lead him with her to get her coat, unable to keep a smile off her face and feeling closer to him than ever.
He followed her into the kitchen as  she took the plates, watching as she set them aside in the sink. He agreed that the cleaning out wait, also eager to get the show on the road with the surprise ahead of them. "Just let me know if walking gets to be too much for you or your stomach gets upset, okay? I'll carry you if you need me too."
Walking was healthy in pregnancies, he knew all of that. Actually he knew a lot after Hayden's pregnancy. Still, after everything with her previous pregnancy and the fact they they were were a bit older now, he worried abut some of the little things. He also didn't want her feeling sick when they arrived to the house, so that she could really take in her surprise.Â
He slipped back into his boots and out the door with Adrielle once they were both ready to go, walking at a steady pace though his eagerness made him want to move faster. the place really wasn't that far form his current family home, which was something he liked about it- just a couple streets away so if they ever needed him he could be there almost instantly.Â
The Discovery - Adriale
She smiled as he kissed her temple and relaxed gratefully into him at his next words and the protective hand on her. It was good to know that he knew her worries and that she needed support and that he was able to soothe her without her even voicing these things.
"Something you need to show me?" She was curious but she doubted he would let her go without eating, especially after her news. She only hoped the food stayed down. "Alright then, after we’ve eaten you can show me your surprise." But she stayed in his lap a moment longer, not wanting to leave and leaning in for another soft kiss.
Reluctantly then she got up and found her place at the table again, picking up her cutlery, “Let’s hope today is a good day with the not so aptly named morning sickness.”Â
His lap felt a little colder when she got up to take her seat, but he was happy to see her trying to eat. It had worried him to see how little she was eating when they thought it was a mere stomach bug, but now they would have to make sure they found things that were easy for her to keep down. Her and the baby needed nourishment after all.Â
"Just take it easy and eat small, slow bites. We'll get through the morning sickness together. Just like everything else." He smiled at her encouragingly, loading up a small bit of his own and savoring the succulent flavor as it dripped over his tongue. There was something about Adrielle's cooking that made it the best Gale had ever had.Â
A part of him wanted to rush through the meal and get to the surprise after, but he took his time eating so that Adrielle wouldn't feel pressured to hurry with her eating.Â
The Discovery - Adriale
She sat there quietly, watching him as the words worked their way through his mind and he came to terms with what she was saying, growing a little more nervous as she waited for him to speak. Then he finally did and she felt relieved as the smile spread across his face.
Then suddenly his lips were on hers and she relaxed into the kiss, smiling as well with relief. His hands found hers and she squeezed them gently, “I love you too Gale. Both of you.” She stood up from her spot and settled in his lap instead for a moment, dropping another gentle kiss on his lips.
"I don’t know how far along I am yet, though I suspect it’s probably a few months.." She told him softly, reaching for his hand again to lightly bring it to her stomach, praying in her mind that it would be a better ending this time. "I just… I wanted to take the tests first and.. let us do everything together. I want you to get a chance to do all those things you couldn’t with Hayden."
He nuzzled into her slightly as she sat on his lap, tenderly brushing his fingers over her stomach as she brought his hand there. "I'll call the doctors office first thing in the morning, see about getting us an appointment. Hayden saw a few different doctors around here when she was pregnant with Seraphina.. so we can always ask her if there are any questions on which one was the favorite." He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss to her temple.
"It's going to be okay this time.. I promise. I'm not going to let anything happen to either of you." He said the words softly, knowing she was worried after her last experience with pregnancy. Protectively his hand folded of her stomach, He was worried too, but he wasn't going to let that show when he knew he had to be strong for her.Â
This news only made him more excited for his surprise for her, their very own place to start out their new family in. As much as he loved his family and really didn't mind sharing a home with them, he wanted to have a place just for them.Â
"There is something I really need to show you, but we should eat first. No skipping meals when one of us is eating for two." Â
The Discovery - Adriale
"You’re welcome." She said as he thanked her, though neither of them had touched their food when he asked what she wanted to talk about. She ran a hand through her hair in a slightly nervous way before licking her lower lip and just deciding to get it over and done with.
"Well… you know how I’ve been ill for a little while? And we thought it was a stomach bug?" She asked him, wondering if she was giving it away or just panicking him. "I uhm… I realised that there were some other things I was noticing that were similar to uhm… well when I was pregnant."
She bit her lip and watched for a moment to see the thoughts click over in his head but continued before he could really speak. “So I went and bought a few tests and I used them this morning. I know it’s not really something that we had discussed at length but… Uh.. we… are going to be parents Gale. I’m pregnant.”
His immediate instincts to her remark about being ill were to jump to all the wrong conclusions. Was something wrong with her health? She had told him it wasn't anything bad. How could that not be bad? Or could it be... right when his mind started leading in the right direction she pretty much confirmed it without exactly saying the words.Â
His mouth fell open to comment, but nothing came out and before anything could she was talking again. Then it was out there. she said the words. They were having a baby. Adrielle was pregnant. His mind seemed to go blank with what to say- words couldn't express the emotions coursing through him.Â
Pregnant. There would be a new baby in his life soon, and despite the fact that he had a daughter, he still had no idea how to care for a baby. That didn't change the fact that he was thrilled with the news though. This time he would get to be there for his child from day one, this time he could do it right.Â
"You're... pregnant?" He finally stumbled out, a little dumbfounded. There was another silent pause while he let it sink in, before a wide smile crossed his features and he exclaimed in an uncharacteristically chipper voice, "We're pregnant!"Â
He leaned over to her, catching her lips with his in a long kiss before he pulled back and took her hands in his. "I love you, Adrielle... I love both of you, already."Â
The Discovery - Adriale
She smiled a little more as he gently tucked her hair back and sighed softly. Suddenly her nerves felt a lot better, just with his touch even though he still didn’t know what she had to tell him. “Oh uhm… sure. Sounds good.” But maybe she would tell him first… then hopefully they could go out and enjoy the day with a whole new outlook.
Now she pressed a brief kiss to his lips, wanting him to know that what she was about to say wasn’t leading to anything bad. “I uhm… I wanted to talk to you about something actually, nothing bad, I promise.” She smiled sweetly at him. “Just… come and sit down first.”
Adrielle took his hands and guided him over to the table with her, his spot already set up and the food ready although now she thought she might overflow with the news before they could even eat.
His brow furrowed in curiosity when she mentioned that they needed to talk, but he said nothing for now- returning her brief kiss and allowing her to lead him to the kitchen. He wanted to ask what this was about, but waited for her to say something. She looked as though she were about to burst at the seams with whatever she wanted to discuss, so he imagined he wouldn't be waiting long.Â
"The food looks delicious. Thank you." He said with just the slightest bit of hesitation in the anticipation of her news, taking his seat.
he was struggling enough to keep his own news hidden, but it was apparent that what ever she wanted to discuss was harder to keep secret- seeing as he had been planning this for months now.Â
"What did you want to talk about? Is everything okay?" He asked after a few more moments. She had said it wasn't anything bad, and he trusted her but his own curiosity had been perked.Â
The Discovery - Adriale
Her head snapped up when she heard the door open and she tried to squash down her slight nervousness. Oh did she tell him first? Or should they eat first? Could she even hold down the food? Swallowing she pulled herself together and stood up from where she’d been sitting at the table, making her way to the door, and to Gale.
"Gale?"
She called for him as she wandered out, dressed in a loose flowing dress that she and Hayden had actually designed together. Somehow it felt right, perhaps trying to show that they could be a blended family, despite the age difference, and the different mothers. She just hoped it went well. She didn’t know how far along she was and she could only pray it ended better this time around.
"Hey.." She greeted him when he came into sight, "I uhm… I made us some food. I figured you’d be hungry after going out into the woods…" Maybe eating first was the best choice. She did walk over and tiptoe to place a gentle kiss on his cheek though, smiling up at him.
When Gale walked through the door of the Hawthorne household he paused, slipping off his shoes and trying to  wipe some of the excitement from his face. Adrielle would know something was up if he seemed too perky, after all, Gale was not a particularly perky person- though he had been in lighter spirits since Adrielle came along.Â
"In here babe."Â
He called back, stepping into the hallway that lead to the kitchen with a contained smile as she rounded the corner. His smile grew a little at the mention of her cooking, it was something he always looked forward to. "Starving." He murmured as her lips caressed his cheek, hand moving to catch a stray hair as it feel into her eyes- tucking it back gently. "I was thinking about heading back out in a little while. Not for hunting, but just to enjoy the nice day... thought maybe you would like to join me?"
Getting her to come out with him was the easy part, his only real worry was that he might overwhelm her a little with his grand gesture.
The Discovery - Adriale
It had been 3 years since she and Gale had gotten together, moving perhaps a little faster than either of them intended but it had all worked out for the best. In that time, she had ended up moving in with him, and the rest of the family. It was something of an adjustment after so many years alone but she enjoyed being with the extended Hawthorne family and she finally felt like she had found a place that she belonged.
There was still something she wanted, almost more than anything… and that was a chance to have a baby. Kids were something they had kind of discussed, after all Gale knew about the baby she lost and she knew he hated that he’d missed out on so much of Hayden’s life but neither of them was sure about how smooth the road to kids would be at this stage of life.
Apparently life had decided for them. She hadn’t been feeling particularly well lately, and there were certain other signs popping up that reminded her of her first pregnancy all those years ago. It was those signs that made her buy a few tests to take. Gale had gone out into the woods that morning and she took the chance then to take them, having not wanted to get his hopes up by telling him her suspicions until she knew.
Now she did. The lines on all four of the tests she had bought told her she was pregnant. Now she only had to tell her boyfriend that they were getting a second chance at parenthood… this time, together. Everyone else was out and she had made them both some food, although her morning sickness of late didn’t guarantee her any luck at holding it down.
More important though, was giving him the news.
The last three years had been some of the best Gale could remember. Adrielle walking into his life was something he hadn't expected, but something he unknowingly needed. For both of them it felt like they had finally found somewhere to belong.Â
Over the course of those three years he continued on with his career in law enforcement, taking on a promotion. Adrielle had moved in with him and his family, who took to her quite smoothly. Though for the last few months Gale had been making some plans of his own- and getting a few surprises in line.Â
That morning he left his girlfriend of three years with a kiss, telling her he was going off to the woods. Something he'd been saying a lot more lately. Really, he wasn't headed to his usual, wooded destination, but instead to work on a project he'd been putting most of his free time into lately.Â
You see, Gale hadn't had many or really any serious relationships in his life, but he knew that he had found 'the one' in Adrielle. There wasn't any other woman he could imagine spending the rest of his life with, and that was just what he intended to do with her. Â Making it official and asking her to marry him was one of two things he had been planning to surprise the brunette with.
The other, which he had been slaving away working on, was finally moving forward and getting a place of his own, with Adrielle. Perhaps he was a little ahead of himself, buying and fixing up a house before proposing to insure she wanted the same future- but Gale knew without a doubt this was what he wanted and was almost as certain that she shared those feelings.Â
He had bought the house beaten up and in need of repairs, but turned it into pleasant, livable space. This morning was the end of his work, finishing up some painting and a few minor tweeks before he intended to share his surprise.Â
When he locked up and left that day with an uncharacteristically large smile worn across his face, he intended to surprise Adrielle- he had no idea that she had a surprise of her own at home.Â
Discovery - Gale/Madge
"Well, you’ll always be her older brother, she’ll always be your kid sister. I get it. My eldest isn’t even really a child anymore but he’ll still always be my baby. Similar deal." She said in understanding. “And what about Rory and Vick? I remember when Vick used to draw me flowers. He still a charmer?" She asked him with a laugh.
"Well, recent or not, I’m glad. You deserve to be happy, and from that smile on your face it seems like she makes you happy." She commented. It was strange, what a coincidence this was. How life brought people back together. Small world- though of course she wished his daughter hadn’t had to suffer for this coincidence to take place.
She wanted to ask him what Hayden was like but she worried that it might be too much of a reminder of why she was here. So she left it for now. Instead… “So how far are we from your place?"
Gale made a soft noise of amusement, chuckling to himself. "I guess it depends on your definition of a charmer. But Rory and Vick are doing good. Rory has a daughter too, she's a little younger than Hayden. No kids for Vick or Posy though."
His smile grew a little as she spoke, nodding his head slightly. "She does. She was sort of... an unexpected surprise, a great one." Adrielle hadn't been in his life long, but long enough for him to know that she was something special, someone he never wanted to lose.Â
"Not far now. The house is pretty close to the station."Â
Discovery - Gale/Madge
"Still the same Hazelle then," She murmured with a smile. “Would Posy even remember me? It’s been a long time and she was only young then.." She’d loved all the children in the district, though she had sometimes looked after Posy for Mrs Hawthorne (whom she suspected didn’t always tell Gale).
Madge couldn’t help a soft smile at his apology, giving his arm a light squeeze, “You were forgiven a long time ago Gale. We were only young, and we all make mistakes. We’re both here now and we’re both okay. That’s what matters."
Though it had been quite a surprise to see him standing there at the station waiting for her. “So you’ve been in Two all these years? And.. well I told you about my husband are you.. are you seeing anyone?" She’d noticed that there was no ring on his finger so he probably wasn’t married but she couldn’t help being curious about how Gale’s life had been since they had last seen one another.
"You'd be surprised what Posy remembers. I swear she pulls out random promises I made when she was young to manipulate me into getting her way even to this day." He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I don't think I've ever get over being a push over when it comes to that kid... or well, woman now- but she'll always be a kid in my eyes."Â
A small smile turned up his lips as she accepted his apology. Secretly it was something he had always wanted, but had been too proud in his youth to make happen. He may have resented Madge once, but he never wanted to hurt her. Things had just worked out that way, but he had wanted to make that right deep inside. At least it finally worked out that way, all these years later.Â
"Yeah, ever since the take down of the Capitol. I got the job offer in law enforcement here, taking it seemed like the right thing to do.. I needed a fresh start to move on from the past..." He smiled a little to himself at her next question. "I am... It's kind of a recent thing, but... she's something more. At least it feels like it."
Discovery - Gale/Madge
"Oh, I’m so sorry." She murmured, “But at least you know now. Especially since she needs you most right now." Maybe some people wouldn’t have wanted to hear him talk about his life but she was genuinely interested to hear what had happened in his life. Although she wasn’t in love with him anymore, she did still care about it.
"I can’t imagine you living separately, somehow." She said with a laugh. “You always were big on family. Gosh… Rory, Vick and Posy all grown up. I still remember Posy tinkering around on my old piano." She mused fondly. “It will be nice to see them again."
She reached out to lightly touch his arm, “It’ll be okay Gale. Hayden will be okay. She has you and the family and Xavier seems to love her very much. Regardless of the choice she makes with the baby, whether I adopt it or she keeps it… you’ll all get through it together." She reassured him.
"And… if I do end up adopting the baby, I promise you, you can be a part of it’s life. I wouldn’t want it to miss out on anything." She hoped that this was what he needed to hear.
He smiled a little as she spoke, but kept his eyes on the road ahead. "Posy loved you and that piano... it used to drive me nuts." He chuckled softly, reflecting on some of the good times in the past rather than the negative was nice. "They'll be happy to see you too. Mom's been fussing in the kitchen all morning, she doesn't know it's you yet, but she's been acting like we are feeding an army... guess she wants to set a good impression. Either that or she's just as nervous as the rest of us and trying to distract herself.."Â
He glanced over at her as she touched his arm, nodding though his smile had faded a little. The Hawthorne's always stuck together, this would be no different. They would find a way through it together, but it was still a heavy weight to bear.Â
"Thank you, Madge..." He said softly, not really sure what else to add to it. Gale had never been the best with words and expressing his emotions, but Madge knew that.
"And Madge...? I know it probably doesn't matter anymore since it was so long ago... but.. I'm sorry. I was a jerk about a lot of things back in Twelve, especially to you. You didn't deserve it.."
It was almost another life time ago now, but he still felt that it needed to be said. Even if it were all water under the bridge by this point, he needed to apologize before things got under way with Hayden. If there was a chance that Madge was going to take in the baby then he hoped that maybe there could be a fresh start between the two of them.
Discovery - Gale/Madge
"I know the feeling." She commented, “I visit Twelve sometimes but…  unless it’s to see Katniss and Peeta it’s not usually pleasant." Somehow trips to her parents usually ended with her feeling upset. Things had just never been repaired between them, even after all these years. Though, she supposed they did try a fraction with her children.
"It’s going well. My husband, Kyan, and I have 3 wonderful kids and… I’m very happy in Four. I would have loved more children but… there were some complications after the last and, well, it would be too dangerous to give birth again. I do feel like I have more to give though." She knew she mostly had to plead her case with Hayden but there was no reason she shouldn’t with Gale too.
"So everyone is here in Two? I haven’t seen them in such a long time. Gosh, it will be so strange to see them all so mature." She said with a laugh.
He nodded quietly when she talked of visiting Twelve. He'd only been back once since moving away, and while it was nice to see home again and catch up with Katniss... it still didn't feel quite right being there. Even though he had long since moved on and put his feelings for Katniss to rest, he felt like being there was invading on her and Peeta's space. He belonged in Two now. He had a life here, and a pretty good one.
"It must be nice... your life in Four. I'm pretty new to this parenting thing... but it hurts to know I missed her childhood and all those mile stones..." He mumbled out before realizing that Madge probably had no idea about Hayden having not been in his life until recently.Â
"I didn't know about her... Hayden, her mother... she never told me she was pregnant, so when she left I had no clue that she was taking my child with her, or that she even existed... Her mother died after she was born and Hayden ended up growing up in a community home... she actually found me pretty recently.." He shook his head lightly, dropping his rambles and watching the road as he drove. Madge wasn't here to listen to him go on about his life.
Though he was envious of what she had built for herself back in Four. He seemed to be a little jealous of everyone with kids these days and the time they got with them. Gale would have had a lot to give, he still would- and a part of him had almost thought about taking in the baby for Hayden, but he didn't know if it would be harder on her to have her father raising her baby when he never got the chance with her, so he never spoke of it.Â
"Yeah, everyone's here. Us Hawthorne's stick together I guess... We're still all crammed into one house, but at least here the house has plenty of space and everyone actually had their own room... it's nothing like Twelve." He let out a light chuckle himself, though it was a little bit dry with all the thoughts weighing in on him.Â
The Dinner Date - Adrielle/Gale
She moved with him as he guided her to lay back against the mattress, feeling comfortable under the touch of his large, warm hands. Looking up at him, she smiled although neither of them spoke. Neither of them needed to.
Little shivers went through her as his fingers gently brushed over the skin above her knee… he was inches away from the self inflicted scars that criss-crossed her thighs. Yet, as nervous as she was about him touching them, a part of her found that she wanted him to… and she wanted him not to care.
