I’m not doing this on purpose. I think i am. I told Becky but she said i can’t be because i don’t have a uterus. She crushes all my dreams. I think i’m ok. Feel like death though. I am but it’s not really helping.

Oh she’s definitely hydrated. She drinks water a lot, and she gets an otter pop most nights before bath time. And she likes ice. Like, just plain ice. She sucks on it all day long. Makes my mom made, but it hasn’t killed her yet.

Time for my lame British side to show.. –what is an otter pop? I don’t know if ice is very safe to give her, is it? My mum would tell me to never put ice in Darcy’s drink as she got older, because little pieces could break off and she could choke.

Well that chance scares the crap out of me. She hasn’t been acting like her throat hurts or acting like she’s sick except this morning she slept in and she was fussy and all she wants to do is nurse, but she isn’t really acting like she’s sick, just that she doesn’t feel good, if that even makes sense.

I can’t judge, I’m the same way. It makes total sense, honestly – but it’s still a good idea to keep her hydrated and stuff, especially if the fever develops into something else... and what kid doesn’t like a sticky popsicle?

I’m okay with some side effects. Dizziness, nausea, crankiness I can deal with. But when “liver damage, heart murmur could develop, suicidal tendencies, or death” come up, I’m like screw that. Not my baby. If it wasn’t already so hot, I might have tried letting her sweat it out, but I don’t want her to have a heat stroke. I’m all for the fever reducer, but I don’t give her anything with acetaminophen in it. I mean, if she has the fever tomorrow still and nothing else seems to work then I’ll definitely try it, but I’m such a worrisome mom. I’m definitely a home remedy type of girl. It’s a Latino thing.

Usually, all of those horrible side effects are extremely rare – like, to the point where they hardly ever happen, but have a 0.5-in-a-billion chance, so they have to legally mention them... but I totally understand. Heat stroke definitely wouldn’t help at all. If the fever doesn’t break overnight, definitely take a run to the pharmacy and see what they have. And if she’s having a bit of trouble swallowing or being fussy about drinking – give her an ice lolly or something. The coldness of it will help bring the fever down a little and help if she has a sore throat, and she’ll be staying hydrated. It’s a total win-win.

My neighbor said let her sweat the fever out by putting her in warm clothes, but if she gets too hot she throws up so I haven’t been doing that. I’ve been letting her run around in just a diaper and throwing her in the tub with cool water to play in. She seems to be feeling better, but the fever is still coming and going. What’s paracetamol? I’ve only ever heard of acetaminophen and I refuse to give anything to her with it in it. I’m one of “those” moms.

To be honest, I still freak out over the side effects of things – I’m the kind of dad that always tries the natural remedies before turning to other things. Letting her sweat it out might work, but it would make her even more uncomfortable than the fever would in the first place. If it’s coming and going, it should probably break soon. Paracetamol and acetaminophen are the same thing, I believe – it’s a pain reliever and fever reducer, and you can get brands that aren’t Tylenol and are specifically made to help kids combat fevers, with a proper dosage that’s less than what adults need.

Had to take baby girl to the doctor because she had a fever. Doctor says “it could give her liver damage, but go ahead and give her some Tylenol.” Nope. See ya. Bye. Worst doctor ever. Thanks for scaring the shit out of me. Mama Becks isn’t impressed.

Honestly, your doctor was pretty stupid for saying it like that. Darcy has taken baby Tylenol before, and nothing’s wrong with her liver. But if you want to bring her fever down, running a cool cloth over her body a few times really does wonders, as long as you give her paracetamol or something along with it, to help bring it down and stop any pain that comes with it.

You two broke up, she was probably just keeping him from you so he wouldn’t have to grow up wondering why Daddy was never around. Hate her if you have to, but she didn’t do anything wrong... and don’t take it out on your son, he’s completely innocent in all of this.
