Fluorescein

This chemical is a fluorophore, containing many aromatic groups and having the ability to absorb light and re-emit a new photon (fluorescence). There are other types of fluorescence that allow re-emission of light at higher energies or even the same energy but in this case the re-emitted light is at a lower energy. Because it is under a UV light, it absorbs the UV and the light that it re-emits will be visible to human eyes. Sadly, what we can see is only a very narrow band of the spectrum, still pretty awesome!

وناهدةِ الثديين من خَـدَمِ القصـرِ مزّوقةِ الأصداغِ, مطمومةِ الشَّعْـرِ ** غُلاميّـةٍ, فـي زيّهـا, برمكـيّـةٍ مناطقُها قد غبْنَ من لطُفِ الخصْـرِ ** كلِفتُ بما أبصرتُ من حُسْنِ وجهها زماناً, وما حُبُّ الكواعبِ من أمْري ** فما زلتُ بالأشعار في كـلِّ مشهـدٍ أُليّنُها, والشِّعْرُ من عُقَـدِ السّحـرِ ** إلى أنْ أجابـتْ للوصـالِ وأقبلـتْ على غيرِ ميعادٍ إليّ, مـع العصْـرِ ** فقلتُ لها: أهـلاً! ودارتْ كؤوسُنـا بمشمولةٍ كالوَرْسِ أو شُعَل الجَمْـرِ ** فقالت: عساها الخمرُ؟! إني بريئـةً إلى الِله مِن وَصْلِ الرجال مع الخمرِ ** فقلتُ: اشربي إنْ كان هذا محرّمـاً, ففي عُنُقي يارِيمُ وِزْرُكِ مـع وِزْري ** فطالبتُهـا شيئـاً فقالـت بعَبْـرةٍ: أموتُ إذنْ منهُ, ودمعتُهـا تجـري ** فما زلتُ في رفقٍ ونفسي تقولُ لي: جويريّةٌ بِكْـر, فـذا جَـزَعُ البِكـرِ ** ** فلمـا تواصلنـا توسّطـتُ لُجّـةً غرقتُ بها, ياقومُ, من لُجَجِ البحـرِ ** فصحتُ: أغثني يا غُلامُ! فجاءنـي وقد زلقتْ رِجْلي ولجّجْتُ في الغَمْرِ ** فلـولا صياحـي بالغـلامِ, وأنّـهُ تداركني بالحبلِ صرتُ الـى القَعْـرِ ** فآليـتُ ألاّ أركـبَ البحـرَ غازيـاً حياتي, ولا حياتي, ولا سافرتُ إلاّ على الظهْرِ
