I really appreciate Pomni as a character. I find her a pretty good depiction of an anxious person.
I used to think her anxiety was too "played down", that it wasn't convincing that she dealt with anxiety issues because she didn't show it much in obvious ways, that she got used to the circus too fast. But recently i found out i deal with anxiety, something u've neglected and normalized since middle school, and after a lot of reflecting, i actually relate to her a lot.
She *is* anxious. Just because she isn't having a mental breakdown every episode doesn't mean she isn't. For some people anxiety bubbles under the surface, messing up life a lot in ways nearly entirely invisible to others. But still shows in pomni physically in some ways: the way she talks about herself, the way she talks in general, the way she approaches people and seems to think through her words before talking, the way she holds her hands for comfort when talking. It's all very good characterization.
And it makes her being open to connect with jax make way more sense. For some this seemed abrupt. Personally, even before this revelation, it seemed natural to me.
But Pomni seems to deeply understand masking one's problems to function or feel safe. So once Jax showed even a little bit of vulnerability and even apologized to her for tormenting her, even if it was half-assed, she started feeling empathetic to him and, most importantly, curiousity.
The more episodes release of this show the more i feel it becomes obvious that this show's writing really is that deep i think.
