hi yโall! gonna try to keep things concise as far as intros go, but iโm glad to be a part of hydrarpg. itโs been a minute since iโve last rpโd so please bear with me w/ tumblrโs platform. iโm min (he/him, gmt+5, 25+) and this is yang sungjin, better known as stillnight, an award winning soloist & producer. hereโs his profile and pleasepleaseplease like so we can plot! ty!
background
born and raised in atlanta, georgia, to immigrants adding to the growing population of korean-americans in the late 90s. sungjinโs dad was an auto electrician and his mom worked to keep the house in order, the kids in line. the oldest of two siblings in a middle class household.
parents were devout christians so that meant sunday service damn near every sunday at 8am. while sungjin grew up dreadfully approaching the service, it was almost his only exposure to live music which became responsible for the career he has now. joined his local youth choir (thereโs definitely some predebut videos out there iโm sure) and, well, the rest was history? kinda?
wasnโt particularly popular during his youth, but he had a humble support system among his 3-4 friends growing up. he went on to teach himself the piano and his parents went on to (surprisingly) pay for formal piano lessons. classical lessons didnโt last long until he got his hands on his first synthesizer keyboard heโd been eyeing at his local pawn shop. he spent his teens experimenting with multiple instruments, acquiring beat-making/production softwares and became so engulfed in his hobby that eventually his dad ushered a no-noise policy after 7pm (and 9pm on weekends.. hehe).
after high school, sungjin booked it to his home country for a fresh start, a new environment, etc. he initially was attending inje university majoring in international trade or business, but his music/productions remained top priority. sungjin was active in the underground scene at the time, was leaving his university work on the back burner, and, well, luck mustโve been on his side for a major label to sign him eventually. oh! and if it wasnโt that obvious alreadyโyes he did drop outta college!
stillnight has about ~10+ years of experience being in the game, his projects are flourishing despite some creative blocks here and there. to expand his musical portfolio, he has now been appointed as a freelancing/main producer under ace labs. the possibilities are endless!
thatโs basically the gist as of now, but i will happily yap away when it comes to plotting and for any specifics. buuut i do have some more information concerning his career here!
in retrospect: his career is mildly in shambles amongst creative direction and output rn. sungjin is able to experiment with his music for other artists which he feels he canโt do for himself at the fault of his loyal listeners. heโs unable to pull himself out of the kr&b pigeonhole that he dug himself into. so. perhaps progression with ace labs (and hydra in general) can help him out of his artistic rut both as a soloist and a producer. maybe he has to come to terms with abandoning his old self; his older tastes, if a journey so transformative is in his future.
personality
takes himself a lil too seriously at times while being.. unserious.. at the same time? at this point i donโt know whatโs his deal but heโs definitely a walking juxtaposition of a guy whoโs Highly Sensitive about his work while having a โf*ck it we ballโ mentality.
very laidback, works/functions well under pressure, has a genuine โcoolโ vibe to him that includes being warm, optimistic, and sincere. doesnโt try to be everybodyโs best friend, but strives to be on civil terms with most. his effortless โpersonaโ whatever isnโt that different from how he is to those close to him in his personal life. #nonchalant #CoolGuy
has nothing critical to say about others unless when asked, but is definitely hard on himself for no reason most of the time. this likely stems from placing high expectations on nobody but himself.
