how do you know you have fictional introjects? i see a lot of them out and about but since i have none i dont really understand how they work, how does an alter know its a character and how does it make sense that a brand new alter of a new character can manifest? isnt that not how it works, like dont most people know all of their alters already by adulthood?

Assuming this isn't a bait ask I feel like you would get more out of seeking resources made by people with introjects who actually want to share this info/answer your questions here instead of asking the first system you see online lol

hey anon, mostly-fictive system here willing to explain this. it's definitely different for different systems, but for us, new alters can manifest any time there's a lot of stress or even just a lot of strong emotions. it's common for systems to get a lot of alters when they're kids/teens because that's when most systems form, but being an adult doesnt mean you're totally free of stress.

as for how we know we're characters, well, how do you know who you are? in our case, it usually takes a little while (a few hours or days) after the alter is formed for them or us to realize they're a character. for us, most of our introjects are characters we have/had a lot of attachment to or interest in, which can be a hint to who they are too.

Missing source but knowing it's probably a bad idea to talk to sourcemates (villain moment)... idk. It's rough. I'm also not 100% sure I want to talk publicly about my source with people because it's just kind of a clusterfuck of issues and people can never be normal about fictives especially in uh. Cases like mine shall we say.

Been in and out of front all day and it's... weird. I haven't been by myself yet but I don't think that's on purpose. Everyone trusts me (I think). I'm in a weird spot at the moment wrt my source. Obviously I resent it but it's also me, you know? I don't know how much separation I need to keep everyone at ease. I don't know how separate I want to be. I'm tired.
