PM: I understand, Headmistress. I know who she is now, and that is what is important to me. I can forgive any bit of who she may have been. And perhaps that’s what she needs too. To be forgiven. 

I–I think that you’re right. I would blame myself.. I do blame myself. For the suffering that she’s experienced here. I know that a very small portion of it has ever been my fault, but I still feel like I should be able to make it go away. All of it. I should be able to make it all better. I don’t know how to feel less..responsible.

[PM] As much as we wish to forget our wrongdoings, there’s something within human nature that demands we throw it all out there occasionally and have whoever is closest to us at the time forgive us for it all, so I don’t doubt it. If anything, I believe it will make you stronger.

All you should do is look after her whilst she’s here. That doesn’t mean fight her battles or blame yourself for the situation she’s in, but make sure the good moments here outnumber the bad. Even if it’s by a single digit every day. University is a three/four year excursion. That is all, in the grand scheme of things. So even if she doesn’t get to leave St. Brendan’s today or tomorrow, next week or in the foreseeable future, she won’t be here forever and neither will you. 

I suppose, selfishly, though I would not say it’s selfish at all, you need to remember that you chose to go here, too. As far as I’m aware, anyway. You weren’t ordered to attend by a court. You need to enjoy what time you have left here, Quinn.

And I can’t tell you how to feel less responsible because I honestly don’t know. If you work it out, let me know. But I am hopefully pointing you in the direction of, or even just reminding you of, other things that are more important than your sense of responsibility here.

PM: Actually, no. I’m eager to see my Mistress thrive, and, as excellent an institution as St. Brendan’s is, she is not thriving here. I’ve been trying to find ways to prove Mistress Delphine’s growth throughout her time at the academy. Testimonials from students and professors, that silly, little poll for an interview in Anna and Valentine’s magazine, a chance for volunteer work that I’ve recently stumbled upon. They’re not simply going to take my word for it, and I want to know what they’re looking for, so that I can urge her in that direction. And it’s like you said, I don’t want anyone to have any cause for concern. I don’t want to be questioned only to have no clue as to what happened in the first place. I don’t want anyone to twist my ignorance into some sort of manipulation by her. Because they will.

[PM] My students’s interests are in my best interest, so I guess I can’t hold that against you. Not wanting to be here has to hinder any serious growth. 

In that case, you need to know what happened so you need to ask, and you have faith that she’ll share all with you so you need to be ready to carry this with you at all times. Forgive and forget, that sort of thing. You may not need to forgive her directly but some part of you will have to forgive it anyway, and you probably won’t forget what you’re told. You may realise upon finding out that it does affect your feelings towards your Mistress, so you’d need to be ready and capable to handle the fallout. You may think that you can, now, because you’re in love and she cares for you and she’d never hurt you, but you don’t know what happened yet and saying that knowing wouldn’t harm your relationship, at this point, is a dud note. I’m not telling you what you should feel or what you will feel. This is simply food for thought.

And you can’t carry all this weight, Quinn. I’m not saying that because you’re a submissive, as submissives naturally and learn to bear the weight of so much of their Dominant, but because your concern and desire to help could have a negative impact on you and your health. For as much as it is in your best interest to look after your Mistress by being on the ball and ready if your relationship is ever called into question in front of a judge, it is also important that you look after yourself and your Mistress in the other ways and not allow this case and her potential freedom to play on your mind too much.

I worry, as you are so impassioned, which is not a bad thing, that you are taking this on as your own burden and that if Delphine’s freedom is not granted you will blame yourself. I don’t want you to do that. She wouldn’t either.

It depends. I tend to either get a french manicure or nude, but there’s a sliding scale of choices. Sometimes I ask Nathaniel to pick. He doesn’t much care but he knows it’s a treat to even be asked.
