BIG MIXTAPE ANNOUNCEMENT
ok now that Iāve won and paid for a tape deck on ebay and bought some tapes i can announce this: i am right now mixing a super ambitious mixtape called ENDLESS CHILDHOOD. Without breaking out the soapbox, it is not a mixtape in traditional form (e.g. a glorified iTunes playlist), itās a high-energy DJ-mix filled with favorites, old shames, and guilty pleasures. It is, however, aping the feeling you get when listening to a mixtape; a sense of nostalgia, joy, and affection. Iāve been talking to virtualconsole, who runs the netlabel mechayuri and heās so far been cool with releasing the mixtape on Mecha Yuri. ENDLESS CHILDHOOD will also be receiving a limited test run of 10 cassettes (so itās an ACTUAL MIXTAPE) and if that goes well I might make more tapes and weāre even thinking about running tapes of other Mecha Yuri releases So TL;DR. Iām making a big ass mixtape called ENDLESS CHILDHOOD. Iāve had a couple people listen to it theyāve liked it! ENDLESS CHILDHOOD will be receiving a release by Mecha Yuri and thereāll be a limited tape run. GET HYPE!
Weeb Zone is looking for writers.
I mean, weāre always looking for writers but on a team of a grand total of three who are all busy with real lifeĀ weāreĀ desperate for writers.
What is Weeb Zone?
Weeb Zone is a blog I started to facilitate a fun, interesting conversation about ānerdā entertainment like games, anime, comics, cartoons, TV, and movies. To be blunt, itās a blog with reviews and crap but one that aims to start a discussion. Reviews are written from the angle that everyone has been watching along, our livestreams have open Hangouts calls which anyone can join, and we welcome questions and arguments to our individual Twitter and Tumblr accounts. We also have an internal policy to elevate the standards of being a nerd. Standards of a nerd? What is this, elitist bullshit?
Nah I mean like, Iāve always found it weird that for a subculture thatās made of a lot of people that were bullied for who they were and what they liked now have this dumb elitist attitude and has this shitty entitlement culture. I find it infuriating that I have to share this culture with sexists, white apologists, sexists, and [shudders] pseudo-intellectuals that write 5000+ word essays about anime while completely missing the point of the show and I hate that often the industry cater to them and implicitly reward them for their behavior, even down to the blogs and news sites (see: Sankaku Complex). Weeb Zoneās my own way of fighting back on a small scale and I hope it makes even the smallest of a blip on the radar.
So, like, why the hell would I write for Weeb Zone?
Really I canāt tell you that but I hope itād be because you share our mission and would love to help us out! Iām not gonna lie and something like āWeeb Zone gets thousands of views and has hundreds of followersā or whatever. Donāt expect recognition, really donāt expect money. Do it because you love nerd shit and wish it was way better.
Aight, Iāll bite. Whatāre you looking for?
Weāre looking for great critics who are passionate about art and entertainment and love writing about them. Youāll have full reign over what you write and when you do. Deadlines are for when we actually make money ;P. Weāre not looking for general writers. If you can write about everything and write well then great! But whatād be even better if you have one thing you know and know well enough to write great critique.
We also donāt want just writers. We want our writers to be facilitators, people who are always open to discussion with others. Donāt just be ready, be psyched for random tweets at night, people adding you on skype, emails that are for once not sent to you from a mailing list.
So how do i join?
Send me what you think your best piece of writing is along with why you want to join at workwithenoch at gmail dot com. Be sure to email me from the address thatās linked to your tumblr account so I can easily add you as a contributor if I like your stuff.
Ā Thank you in advance for reading all this garbage! If you have any questions about Weeb Zone, email me at workwithenoch at gmail dot com, though admittedly the best way to get at me is tweeting @yahooeny on twitter. And hey, be sure to check Weeb Zone on Tumblr! We admittedly have only been living up to our meager 3 posts/week minimum through the virtue of livestreams and a podcast because Chopper has an actual friggin job and Iām doing like 10 million things at once along with high school. You can tell weāre dying for more staff! But Iām happy with what weāve done so far and we hope youāll join us!

Weeb Zone Launch Stream DJ Mix Liner Notes by Enoch Kim
For the Weeb Zone launch stream I wanted to feature a bunch of cool as hecks Japanese and international artists that are making crazy cool music that deserve way more attention. Included were artists that hail from Tokyo to Hiroshima to LA, Seattle, Germany, to of all places South Dakota and run the gamut of genres- funky fm brassfunk, punchy juke beats, rushing drum and bass, garage-infused breakcore, happy hardcore, sentimental house, IDM-influenced bigbeat, and way way more. Hereās some liner notes about my selections.

i hope you can come to the weeb zone launch stream this saturday 9Ā pm PST
What I remembered is that when I wrote this album that it was less a series of complaints and a stream of anger than it was a story about something I feel we all go through when we finally get out of high school and we are inundated with the feeling that weāre free from rules. We donāt have the teacher forcing us to go to class anymore. We are not a part of the system we all hated. Years later, I am still having trouble dealing with the fact that I am still part of the system that we all hated. The truth is the minute you feel youāre breaking free of the big thing that is holding you down, youāre already locked up again. Advertising. Finances. Friendship. Love. Life is business. I tried to avoid all the bullshit, I tried to be a musician and all I heard from my āpeopleā was negativity. Ska is dead. Lose the horns. Tame the chaos. Drop the āfuckās. If you do each of these things you will be successful financially. You will be commercially viable and saleable to record labels and corporations. They would shoot me down whenever I said that those things did not concern me. There were a thousand bands who would drop their convictions in three seconds if they were offered ten thousand bucks. We werenāt one of them so people moved on to other acts. So there we were, and thatās where we are now. Unwelcome in our underground because our underground actually ended up being a system. Live everything else. I had always figured that the underground would be the one place we could break away from that system but thanks to MTV commodifying punk rock, this has been taken away from us. So I would like to invite you, the listener, the reader, to create a new underground. One where we actually donāt have to follow any sets of rules. One where we donāt have to be controlled by anyone but ourselves. This is an album about breaking out of that old system. hope you enjoy it fucker.

This Friday, 2.5D hosted an amazing showcase of zoomlens and Maltine Records artists.
Unfortunately, 2.5D doesn't seem to give a shit about keeping recordings archived.
So here's the show in VIDEO and AUDIO form. If you're seeing this post as soon as I post it it should be noted that Youtube's gonna take five forevers to upload and process the video. There's a couple skips due to connection issues and of course I was an idiot and couldn't figure out how to turn off Tweetdeck notifications until halfway through the show but let's say it ~ENHANCES THE AUTHENTICITY~
Full description with timestamps:
Recorded live 5/91/14 3AM-7AM PST
2.5D [SOCIAL TV STATION]: http://2-5-d.jp/
ZOOM LENS LABEL [PUNK ROCK DIGITAL SPIRIT]: http://zoom-lens.org
in association with MALTINE RECORDS: http://maltinerecords.cs8.biz/
Connection issues have been edited out.
Compression artifacts are due to and are accentuated by initial low-bitrate stream on Ustream, high bitrate recording in x264, high bitrate reencoding in MPEG-4 TS, and low bitrate conversion on Youtube. This stream has gone through 4 instances of compression what the hell are you expecting blu-ray quality?

Selling on Loudr
I was sent this on Reddit:
Hi there,
I noticed you had posted your album on reddit (link to my album)Ā . I was just wondering if I could hear of your experiences using Loudr as a distributor for your music. I have been researching different distributors and it has been difficult finding honest feedback/continuous narratives from users. Especially for Loudr, as it appears to be a newer distributor. But it looks good. So I am curious if there has been any major downsides to the service for your experience in the typical problem areas (payment delivery/monitoring, customer service, speed of content delivery). It would be much appreciated to hear your thoughts/concerns so far. Thank you.
Loudr literally does nothing but put your album on stores but it does that very very well.
Being calledĀ untitled recordingsĀ I named all my tracks "01", "02", "03", etc. iTunes didn't like that, it was in fact against iTunes policy. Loudr's CEO actually emailed me to get different names for the iTunes release (luckily I had small narrative notes for each track so we used that)
I have made $2.26 so far via Loudr (one iTunes purchase). Whatever, it's not like I even expected to make a single cent on it. However it'd be nice if I could withdraw that $2.26 without a)having a threshold of $10 blocking me and b)being required to send a tax form which is especially problematic given I'm a minor.
In all honesty I don't give two shits about having my music on iTunes. I don't like their revenue percentage, I don't like that you only getto choose m4a, I don't like that you have to use their piece of shit app. Neither do I care about any internet streaming service ever. Period. They're horrible ideas. (though I just noticed I have the option to distribute to Google Play!Ā clicks)
Loudr's actual store is pretty abysmal in terms of discovery. Their homepage is advertising themselves. If you want to see theirĀ four fucking featured albumsĀ you have to scroll all the way to the bottom. Don't expect Loudr to do any work for you.
In conclusion: I got one sale from the store I hate the most and that I'm probably never going to sell on again. I cannot take that sale out because of threshold and tax form bullshit. Loudr's own storefront is basically nonexistent. However actually getting to all this was rather pleasant and they didn't leave me in the dust when I couldn't initially get onto iTunes.
If you are a) popular b) make music that does not ruin people's ears c) use a lot of samples, you're gonna love Loudr. Unfortunately only C applies to me.

HEY IāM GOING TO DO AN IMPROMPTU JAM IN AS SOON AS I PROPAGATE LINKS āROUND THE WEB. Things will be different: Iāll be broadcasting thru Mixlr instead of Justin.tv because Mixlrās new broadcast app reduces a lot of headaches on my end and it didnāt make much sense for a DJ set be broadcast over a video streaming service anyways. Either way come join and have fun!
