ooc // Housekeeping! Here’s how it’s going to be.
(Note: you can assume most of this applies on both my blogs--this one and @minamikazenii.)
I have a lot going on IRL right now; RPing on tumblr is fun, but I don’t really have time to be super active. I’ve considered deleting Mercy and concentrating on Hanzo (who is easier for me to write) but I’ve decided against. Instead I’m doing the following things to make my dash easier to manage.
- Starting now I am unfollowing everyone who I do not interact with directly. Right now my dash is way too clogged (especially on Mercy), making it hard to keep up with the things I need to find and reply to. If we were mutuals or you still wanted to chat feel free to just hit me up and I’ll refollow.
- I am prioritising certain roleplayers who I consider good friends and have ongoing plots with. These people are: @killingblow / @kitakazetan, @thesteadyblade, @techartha, @criesformercy, @sanft / @intermittxnce and @deathbrcught. This does not mean I will not reply to other threads, or that I don’t care about other people who I interact with. It simply means I will occasionally bump other threads back in order to reply to these people first. (It should go without saying, but please don’t make things super awkward by asking to be on the priority list.)
- For now, I am imposing a 7 thread limit on each of my blogs. This rule is likely temporary until I’m a bit more on top of things, but means some current threads may be discontinued. I am sorry for this and just ask you to be patient with me. If you liked our thread, we can pick it up later. :)
Note that these are all things I need to do entirely for myself to feel good about writing here and are not aimed at making things hard for anyone in particular. I’m really sorry if these changes upset anyone, but please respect that none of them are personal. Everyone is still more than welcome to approach me OOC; this is just to make my threads a bit easier to manage.
Thanks, and sorry for being grumpy. :( - A

Memory.
“Angela,” she begins thoughtfully, after listening to much of the other woman’s deep and emotional rant on the nature of humanity, monsters, and monstrous actions. She understands the intent– to alleviate some of the giant pile of emotional guilt she carries, of course– but she isn’t quite able to actually feel any less guilty despite the deft articulation.
“I thought you were a doctor. Not a philosopher. When did you find ze time to become so… insightful? Or is this something they teach in medical school?” If she can’t feel the contrite remorse the good doctor is trying to force upon her, she can, at the very least, compliment the woman on her philosophy. She even feels mildly impressed, especially since it’s exerted in effort towards helping the social pariah that the rest of the team would much sooner avoid than sit down and discuss morality with.
“… or perhaps the answer is even simpler,” she continues, laying herself down on her bed after swishing her ponytail to one side so as not to crush it beneath her bepillowed head. Her eyes glaze over a bit as she stares unblinkingly towards the ceiling. “You talk so much about evil and guilt… because you have personal experience with both.”
Amélie has ever been observant– and post-Talon enhancement, even more so. The subtle cracks in Angela’s voice and the alterations in her heart rate as she speaks of guilt, pain, and loss might go unnoticed to most, but to Amélie, she may as well be breaking down in tears. After a moment, she lifts her head somewhat, scooting back up against the headboard to look over at the doctor. “You empathize, because… you often feel like a monster too, because of what you have believed and what you have done. N’est-ce pas?”
“A doctor does not simply treat illnesses and injuries,” says Angela, smiling tenderly. “Our true skill is caring for people, even when they are healthy.”
She pauses, smile fading slightly. “Although, I... well, I would not call myself an expert.”
How many times has she tried and failed to help the people she loves now? And how much has she done in the name of helping that has only made things worse? Genji had battled with himself for years, lashing out at others and cringing away from mirrors. Then there was Gabriel; she’d always known him as gruff but gentle, but now he was something she wasn’t even sure she could recognise, something that wasn’t even human... because of her. Why had she done it? Duty, despair, desperation... none of them seemed like good enough reasons.
She could tell people there was always an explanation--that didn’t mean she had one for herself that she could accept just yet. Amélie seems to pick up on this; Angela startles a little at her accusation, looking over at her quickly, but when she sees her still lying on her back, staring up at the roof, she feels a rush of relief. She has time, then, to meekly turn her gaze away by the time she sits and looks over at her again.
“Everyone has done things they are ashamed of,” she says softly, one hand picking at a loose thread on the comforter. “I suppose I try to rise above them and do what I can to make up for it.”
;a plea for help
I do not remember your name.
It’s… A strange feeling that comes next. Is it dread? Anger? Something else entirely?
No. She knew this feeling – disappointment. That feeling which, when displaced expectations weren’t met, settled itself in the pit of her stomach, like the wind had been knocked out of her soul. She was a little disgusted at herself. It took a mere second to recover, though, and Yukiko was pulled back to the present by Angela’s hand on her shoulder.
“ Of course, of course – you’ll have to forgive me. I’m… Out of sorts, ” she sighed, looking down. God, she was a mess. So much for a first impression.
She kept her posture straight and composed, though, and started towards the end of the hallway. “ My name is… Yukiko Koyama. I was in communications during the first Overwatch – we only talked a little, though. And I believe we met face-to-face at Morrison’s funeral. ” She had stop herself from sinking into the memory.
“ It’s not a surprise you don’t remember me. But, even so… I came to ask for your help. ”
Her tone was surprisingly even. This was not at all what she imagined meeting the old agents again would be like. She always thought it’d be happier – ah, but those were all her naive delusions creeping in.
“Ah--no, that does sound familiar. You will have to forgive me. It all feels like a very long time ago now.” She stares off wistfully before anchoring herself back in the conversation. “Yet here we all are again. I am afraid I... do not remember much from the funeral, dear.”
She squeezes her shoulder, sensing her disappointment. “Was it you who told jokes with us that time when the main door froze? And we were all stuck, waiting to be deployed? Ah, I may be mistaken...”
If so, then she supposes it will seem little more than a feeble attempt to recreate a false memory--heaven knows her mind has been bending over backwards in the past few weeks to make sense of her Overwatch-related recollections.
As they reach the end of the hall, she lets them into the lost property closet and is already reaching for one of the bins labelled “clothing”.
“Tell me what I can do for you,” she says, digging through it and withdrawing a pair of women’s jeans. In spite of her focus being on an action other than conversation, she does not seem distracted--and she glances back at Yuki now and then to ensure she doesn’t feel ignored. “If I cannot help, I will certainly try to find someone who can.”
As an afterthought, she also reaches for a polarfleece jersey with the Overwatch logo embroidered on the breast and holds it out to her along with the jeans--surely she isn’t warm enough in that jacket. “What shoe size are you, by the way?”
